Round 15- off with a BANG BANG

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Holy moly! What a game!

Huge scores again by Diddles and Swan got the pies over the line by a single point!

A definte notible effort by Murphy proving the bargain that he was.

Whiles Lake made me proud to keep him on the field over the returning Cornes (crosses fingers still :D )

But not all is always good.

Cloke being true to his up and down form put in a shocker, whilst Pendles put in a servicable 85. Gotta be getting question marks over a sideways trade into him now.

Particularly with the efforts of the other Magpie midfielders!

Beams on the other hand provided lovely Ablett coverage to those who have held onto him!

Anyways, how you all going?

Best Buys Round 15 – so its a day late…

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

OK here’s the best I can come up with.   Remember to preserve trades where possible, and only go to keepers.

Probably only one massive cash cow can be afforded from here, the rest will have to be strategic upgrades.

Best of luck to you all.   Should be an excellent round of football again, as the battle for the top 4 intensifies.

DEF
Rookie
Silvester (83400) – Now or never if you’re going to pick him.
Hurley (154200) – When he plays 2 in a row; he’s an option.  Surely better than McPhee :)
McKernan (94200) – Good heritage, but otherwise a graveyard for rookies.  Thank goodness for Grimes/Broughton and to a lesser extent Hill.

Midrange
S Fisher (393300) – Looked amazing first quarter last week.  Maybe getting to the “I can not ignore him any more” price range.  Plays for the Saints which is a blessing and a curse.
Mackie (379900) – Maybe turning a corner.  The ultimate tease.
McPhee (386900)- After bagging him out before, maybe he won’t belt me up if I include him.

Premium
The G Force is in this week…
Gilbert (462600)
Goddard (545800)
Grimes (426200)
All great value…otherwise there are options – The H Team (Hodge, Hurn, Hargrave) or Alfred E Newman.

Chad Cornes and Drummond are great value players who will drop after this round most likely so if you want a premium may be best to wait.

MID
Rookie
The boat will be sailing on a lot of the old favourites.  As you’re really just looking for cheap players to get some coin, here are the best:
Anthony (94200) – Looks a good cheap reliable player
C Garlett (101800) – Cheap and might get a go under the Crock
S Reid (113100) – Has been waiting all year for his chance for Doggies…but competition in that team’s red hot.

Midrange
Moloney (415500) – Churns out the points.  Consistent 80-90s
Prismall (427600) – Can find the footy.
Salopek (374500) – Has been when fit, a SC machine.  Getting fitness and Port have a lovely run home.

Premium
Gibbs (500400) – Now scoring when Carlton lose.  Scary but ruining his chances of being a great cheap selection for SC2010.
J Selwood (507400) – Get him now if you don’t have him.
Bartel (564500) – Just looks ready to rumble.  Best game he’s played for ages in the epic Saints clash.  Tough, hard, using it well.

Pendlebury is the one we’re all waiting for as he remains ready to enter the drop zone again.   Wait on this selection for next week.  You couldn’t see him getting 209 this week, and if he did, you’d be on at 457k anyway!
Montagna in 3 or so weeks could end up a target.  But maybe he’s just dropped his rating ever so slightly and that’s why he would be cheaper.   I’d still want him in my team.

FWD
Rookie
Ballantyne (94200) – Will get a run.  Good prospect, big for a kid.
Jurrah (179500) – Love the Melbourne aborigines.  They will be a force in years to come with Davey, Jurrah, Wonaeamirri.   Change of culture down at Demon land and it’s a good one.
Vickery (162200) – A Richmond tall and given their current ruck stocks, I’d think anyone over 190 cm should get a regular run.

Midrange
Cloke (342600) – Toot toot the boat is leaving the dock.  Get on now or the ship will have sailed.
Mooney (355600) – Cheap cheap for his average.  Brain fades but Geelong’s run home is OK, and he is the main key position forward, and finally last round v Fremantle at Geelong could be a Supercoach GF winner.
Murphy (356100) – A risk for sure, but a great player when going.  Certainly worth the 7th spot in a forward line.

Premium
Davis (511900) – Can go cheaper (so hold off if you can) but with Didak’s improvement may get some easier touches.
Deledio (462100) – Cheap if you don’t have him, he seems good value to me.
Riewoldt (568200) – If you don’t have him, get him.   Lovely run for the Saints (particularly in Supercoach finals) and this guy is the key to it all.  Can’t see the Saints resting him, he seems up for a massive year and is an out-and-out gun.

RUC
Rookie
Clarke (94200) – Because he’s cheap.
Vickery (162200) – Because he’s probably been guaranteed a game under Rawlings.
Naitanui (194300) – Because he’s the most exciting player in the last 10 years at least.

Midrange
Kreuzer (355800) – Worth considering.  Consistent game time.
Koschitzke (398500) – A good option with the Saints SC Finals approaching.
McIntosh (425600) – Has Petrie dulled his effectiveness?

Premium
Sandilands (558100) – Go Lurch, a great player up for another massive week against the Crows.
Fraser (454700) – No hitouts generally except when against the undersized e.g. last week vs Paddy.  Should go OK with Minson/Hudson, Taylor, Clark, Tippett, Kreuzer, Vickery, and only one gun Jolly to come.
Jolly (474900) – Will get All-Australian this year ahead of Cox with Sandilands.  Now back to the value he deserves.

My backline. A dispair to delight story.

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Supercoach backlines of late have been absolutely decimated this year. from injuries, to suspension, we’ve seen it all.

But for the first time this year, I’m having a difficult time in choosing who to bench. And man, it’s a good feeling.

Anyways, here’s my current backline.

Broughton – 159 (98.71)
Grimes – 142 (98.12)
Lake – 134 (87.07)
Bock – 117 (97.40
Hodge – 112 (88.73)
McMahon – 111 (95.93)
Goddard – 99 (114.64)

Cornes – 0 (94.2)
Cheney – NA

I suppose the easy answer would be Brian Lake, having the lowest average there. But to be fair, his 3 round average is sitting on 109.33. Not a bad return.

But no, I digress. The purpose of this post isn’t to big note my backline. (alright, maybe just a little bit… it feels good to have such form! :D ), but to bring attention to
this article.

Cornes is set for an early comeback! Which should be a nice game against Melbourne to get back into things.

If they weren’t playing Melbourne, I would strongly be considering keeping Studly chad on the bench… but hey, it’s Melbourne. :D

So, if you were me. Who would you bench? (All, if this is the worst of my problems for the week, I’m gunna be smiling all week! :D )

Round 14 Wrap.

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Alright, scores are up, and boy am I celebrating.

2493. My highest score in the year.

In fact, 5 weeks ago, I was lamenting down in 6000th+ place.

This week, broke into the top 1000!

But enough about me.

This week was the clash of the titans. The biggest game of the year by far, in which the mighty Saints won by a single goal over the Cats. Not just that though, Lenny Hayes top scored this week in Supercoach with an impressive 174.

Rounding out the top five were the always impressive Chris Judd (165);

a welcome return to defended Andrew Carrazzo scoring a year high total of 164;

Perhaps the score of the round, a MASSIVE 159 to rookie Greg Broughton.

And rounding out the top five was an impressive return to the form of old, Brad Johnson. Scoring a 153 in the dogs routing of the once mighty Hawks.

The TooSerious Legends held onto top spot, but were caught by the pack a little… still holding a substantial lead, but we gotta lift!

Kismet made the biggest move this week, with a 2300 moving him up into the money in second place and closing in fast on the lead.

The highest score of the round didn’t break the 2700 mark this week, coming in at 2630. Makes me wish that Stevie J had played this week… I reckon my 58th this week could have given it a shake with him on the field! :D

Ah well. I’m just stoked to have made it into the top 1000!

Anyways, stats are up everyone. How did you all go?

Round 14 thread…

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Arg, twas a decent match. Closer than the scoreboard read I though while watching it.

But hey, what can be said. The pies are a great team this year. I was happy to see us perform the way we did!

But that’s not why we’re here. We’re here for Supercoach!

And Diddles. scoring excellently for a 4th week with a 136. Meanwhile, Swan scored himself a single point in the TS Best and Fairest.

Beams once again rewarded all those coaches that held onto him by scoring another 90+

For the Bombers, Dempsey and Prismall both did very well. And Lucas once again rewarded those coaches that held onto him.

But it wasn’t all roses tonight. Paddy Ryder scored a dismal 37 (compared to Fraser’s 144, I reckon that was the difference in the game!), Lockyer, Neon Leon and Pendles all scored in the 60’s. Which will make some coaches pretty upset for the weekend. (and others smiling at the potential cheaper injury replacements in upcoming weeks… :D )

Anyways, onwards and upwards. Drop in a comment on how you’re going.

Best Buys for Round 14 – giddy up

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Sure this isn’t going to be the best week for Best Buys, but you might need to think if you have Cox, Giansiracusa or Pavlich.   Otherwise here’s a list of the good (premium), the bad (or sometimes bad – midrange) and the ugly (rookies generally have pimples on their faces…)

Until next week, hope the blockbuster (Saints-Cats) and mockbuster spoiler (Pies-Dons) turn out to be classics, and that the SC God treats your players kindly.    Donations to this site do not count as indulgences.

DEF
Rookie
Silvester (83400) – Suffering suckatash – a cliffhanger selection – won’t get 90s but like rocky – he’s cheap
Schoenmakers (166900) – Getting game time
Hurley (154200) – Will get a run sooner or later

Midrange
S Fisher (416700) – Average SC form but in a great team.  Gilbert Grape strikes again?… Also could be even better next week.
Harding (409100) – Change of coach, return of Harvey – good portents
Hodge (442400) – I think he’s on his way up again.

Premium
Newman (491600) – And getting better.  Next week…
Mattner (474400) – Released to just gather SC points, he delivers again.  Watching R Shaw’s score decline correspondingly.
Goddard (537100) – Just get him if you don’t have him.  Clearly the best DEF.

MID
Rookie
Meyer (83400) – Power rookie but ex-Tiger has got two games and looked OK.
Swift (124700) – Eagles midrange draft pick getting a run.
Muston (196400) – Hawks will want a good look at him.  Playing team role.

Midrange
Moloney (410000) – You can do far worse.  94 average.
Kerr (340500) – Still can be seen to be value
Hasleby (418700) – Getting well fed by Sandilands.

Premium
Gibbs (476300) – Good game in losing team – is this the turning point?
Bartel (546500) – Write him off at your peril.
Cross (491400) – Looks to be back churning out the points…and the handballs…

FWD
Rookie
Schoenmakers (166900) – better forward than back
Jurrah (144200) – 3rd game about to go up
Vickery (139200) – ditto

Midrange
Cloke (294800) – Is there signs of life?  Still OK Sidebottom/Ziebell trade.
S Johnson (446800) – Back to midrange.  I still think he’s value but up and down.
Porplyzia (449900) – In a Porple patch at the moment.  Crows on the rise, proven SC performer.

Premium
Davey (485600) – Keeps kicking out great scores.  Can you ignore him any longer?
J Brown (490100) – Boat hasn’t gone yet.  Pavlich trade, anyone?
Riewoldt (576100) – Given SC finals are coming he’s good value.  Maybe wait until after Cats game with 121 breakeven. (If you MUST trade this week, Chapman is arguably a better prospect)

RUC
Rookie
Natanui (169200) – Fairly smart backup ruck trade for Jacobs
Vickery (139200) – ditto (again!)
Clarke (94200) – Got a game – a big thing for rookie rucks

Midrange
McIntosh (446400) – Always a reliable no2 ruck choice
Kreuzer (363600) – Crashing and burning price and score wise, but due for a lift.
Koschitzke (423100) – Saints player, ride the rollercoaster though.

Premium
Jolly (463000) – A class act scoring well again after a lull.
Sandilands (556300) – Gotta love Lurch
Petrie (496800) – Keeps scoring and a good alternate player to hold.

FUTURE WATCH
Lovely lovely frightful breakevens…don’t get now…but get soon.
Drummond (498700) 218 – carrying a 3 for 2 more games
Pendlebury (520100) 207 – carrying a 0 for 2 more games
Harvey (481100) 177 – carrying a 0 for 1 more game
J Selwood (534300) 169 – could come in very low priced if tagged out by Sainters
Pavlich/Chornes – 142/143 – you have been warned, trade them
