TooSerious Best Buys

Hi all,
It’s time for some more Best Buy goodness.
I’m sorry I can’t be more expressive this week, but I’m a bit busy, probably getting my team back in shape!

Advice for the week:
There will almost always be bargains up for grabs. Your particular favourite player might not be available at a cheap price, but because we are looking at the same pool of money, and with the development of precocious rookies, for players to keep their value they generally have to score at 9% increases on the average they currently have. With only 3300 up for grabs each week…and no 9% increase on this even over time…it stands to reason that just as some players go up in value, some must go down.

Now for the regular article items:

FRESH MEAT
This week, it’s the West Coast Eagle Brad Sheppard who is up in the mix.  With a lovely 87 he showed us all what he is capable of continuing.  Most of us would have had him from the get-go if he’d not had those injury rumours.  An early draft pick who is in a rebuilding team, and is going up – likely to be more so than Webberley.  If you are going to make two defensive cow kills then it could pay to go Sheppard-Webberley.

So yeah, Webberley is the other.  He has good reviews and is a straight-up player in the Hardwick manner.  Good games makes him look like he is going to have a solid run but with Richmond giving everyone “a go” security is always a difficult thing to promise.  At 67 in the draft was a bit of a diamond in the rough like Nason.

People have also forgotten about Roberton.  Maybe a good D9 option if he gets a recall.  Johnson is out this week and if fit Roberton will keep the youth revolution happening in the exciting up the guts Dockers.

Forwards have some options too.  Brennan Stack has always interested me as he is a fast footballer in the Dogs’ style.  Some may baulk at his price in the 190 range, but with Johnson an extended out, could have a place in the team where everyone seems to score 80.

Danny Hughes v Jack Watts.  It’s line ball.  Both offer something in the future Demon forward line.  Watts certainly is brilliantly talented, but will cost more, is more likely to cop an injury, and like Jesus would say “now is not my time”.

Armstrong and Rohan are the options in the middle.  For those contemplating using Rohan in the midfield MPP mix, it’s going to come at a likely 175 cost next week, so you can save 25k by going this week.  I reckon waiting’s the go though (and I’d probably have him as a forward).  Armstrong…well he will get a run for a few weeks given the Adelaide disciplinary problems.  But I can’t say he strikes me as a regular 2010 Crow midfielder.  Mind you, he has a great writeup in Crows documents on future players, and their season is stuffed already.  Considering he’s likely to be only the 2nd bench coverage, you can do worse than taking the coin now.

CATCH THE TRAIN

Lewis Stevenson is leaving the building midfield upgraders.  James Podsiadly is going up unless he pulls his groinals again or gets 15 clangers on the Magpies.

Daniel Cross and Brendon Goddard are this week in the group of premium mids who would be the most likely to get an increase this week.

Barry Hall if he gets his average is going up this week.  Hahaha why not jumping back on all those who threw him out like a lifeless blow up doll last week.

ON THE NOSE

Ryan O’Keefe has had a shocker of a run recently.  But he’s just the type of guy to throw off a concussion and bash out the 188 he needs to stay at the 460s.  Awesome value for those who haven’t got him.  Grab him in the next fortnight.
For those who are interested in True Tip Rat Trash, then in the next few weeks Brendan Fevola goes possibly into low 300 territory and dare I say it almost direct swap for Gumbleton.  If he shakes off his injury, he could end up being an amazing in come SC finals time with some easy Gabba games, Subi and the Bombers.
Gram and Drummond it’s time to pull the chain.  And Colin Sylvia has been a decided disappointment since almost declaring himself a star again.  Just a big heap of disappointment.

BEST BUYS PER POSITION

DEFENDERS
Some good value here.  Malceski, Enright, Shaw and Hurn under 500k but averaging 100+.  Goodwin at 426 is decent.
FORWARDS
That man Goodes showed signs of life last week.  Look for more.  One more week to wait before getting him in still very cheap by past standards.  I’d suggest Higgins/Thomas/Betts is where decent value is this week.
RUCKS
There’s no value in rucks so move along.  Cox/Kreuzer are not the worst if you need to trade into them.  This week is as cheap as any will be as both played massive games on the weekend
MIDFIELD
It’s not always simple to find a good midfielder buy.  I see Judd, Goddard and Swan as top 10 premiums who are good value and going up.  Dal and Montagna are good value and going down so next week have a lash.  Sam Mitchell at 460k is well below his level and might be around the sub 500 mark another week.  In a side devoid of confidence and structure, and a guy who wins his own ball, he and Hodge could average 120 from here.

Thanks and that’s all for this week.  Happy trading.

I’d be a little wary of making that trade. I’m planning on trading Trengove > Armstrong mainly as I think I’ll keep Bastinac in M7 for the remainder of the year to provide cover for injuries

  2. Jasmine says:

@ Bama. Bartel for me. Very consistent player. Plenty of possessions amongst the Geelong midfield. Opportunities for long effective kicks leading to goals contributed with the more potent Geelong forwardline. Very durable player – has only missed 4 games since the start of the 2005 season. A lock for over 25 possessions and 5 tackles a game.

  3. Fish says:

Just a thought on FWD downgrade options – I notice that people are a bit reluctant to trade out Gumby because he quite rightly provides good F8 cover.
However, what are people’s opinions on Henry Playfair?
I mean he’s 107K and an experienced player. Is he likely to remain in the Swans outfit? If he is, he could provide similiar coverage for you would think at least a similiar ppg to Gumbleton, plus the advantage of getting an extra 150k for your troubles…

  4. Luke says:

@Windy Hill Wizard- yeah I know, I am very tempted to offload him and make some cash to upgrade either Martin or Trengove. Problem is I think he may have a little left in the tank. Anyways, I cant complain he has made nearly 200K for me.

  5. Tom says:

@Luke – I downgraded Waters last week to Webberly in anticipation. Will trade out another cow next week and get Heater in for Silvagni then.

  6. chris88 says:

It would be interesting move to bung Kreuzer forward. But I wonder if its the right one – Richmond prove last week wih two young and inexperienced ruckmen that one in the rck and one resting forward is all that is needed to show up the Hawk’s lack of height in the ruck or down back.

Having 3 ruckmen may actually play into Hawthorn’s hands and make Carlton too top heavy.

Henderson, the three amigos, the Irishman and resting ruckmen, as well as midfielders, should be able to rotate through the forward line and kick a winning score.

But Warnock being would be nice too…

  7. Lucas says:

Would laugh so hard if Kreuzer, Warnock and Jacobs all play.

Kreuzer could do the job on his own if left to his devices

And score 130 while doing it

Now more likely that “Special K” will only get 60 or so.

  8. Happy go lucky says:

    @ fresh

    cheers mate.

I’m looking at my options regarding Sandi. Not having him is obv costing me, but I don’t want to compromise myself to get him.

  9. Nick says:

Also heard the Kruz and Warnock comments by Ratten on SEN, very good news.

So many people’s fwd upgrade target seems to be Goodes still (next week). No love for Buddy still? I am still trying to decide and its doing my head in. Most people taking Goodes over Buddy then?

And for those without J Brown, would anyone be game to trade him in now, even with the groin problems? Has been scoring okay recently and is sooo cheap.

  10. chris88 says:

Sorry – that should read “Warnock being *back* would be nice too”

  11. chris88 says:

Bate and Green out at Demonland – Wona could come in and Cale Morton might return.

  12. chris88 says:

Further to that – rumours that both Trengove and Scully could be rested this week.

  13. Danaz says:

Brown, Goodes, Hall, Kosi, Peterson, Tippett, Hurley, Edwards, Johnson

I have no idea who to bench, have got it wrong the last 3 weeks straight.

  14. Jaykay says:

    @ happy go lucky

As far as I can see there are only two absolute must haves in this game:

    1. Ablett for lazy 150 ppg and potentiial of apocalyptic 200+ scores

    2. Sandi – who is 35 – 40 ppg above every other ruckman in the comp. Do yourself a favour . Get him.

  15. Bandit says:

    @ Danaz
    Tippett and Johnson for mine…

  16. Danaz says:

    Teams have started.

  17. Matty C says:

PODS in, Duncan out for the Cats

  18. Bandit says:

    @ Danaz

ignore that, for some reason I thought you meant Michael Johnson the coke snorter

    Tippett and Peterson/Kosi

  19. Happy go lucky says:

    @ Jaykay

cheers mate. I’m keen on getting the big Sandi, and as Jamar is a bit up and down, he looks the obvious choice for trading, but I’m keen on keeping a m/f bench player that can step in should problems occur. A.t.m it is Trengove, my other spot is taken by JKT who isn’t playing. I can wear that if I’m confident that Armstrong will play.

  20. Danaz says:

    Essendon changes
    In: Tayte Pears, Sam Lonergan
Out: Cale Hooker (hamstring), Travis Colyer

  21. Asanque says:

Damn you General Soreness with your attack on Higgins!

  22. Dude says:

Anyone have to make a downgrade trade this week in the mids to get your premium next week?

I am having trouble choosing out of:

Armstrong – 2 games but named on e/b
Hardingham – yet to debut for Dons but big wraps and named as emerg
Strauss – yet to debut for Dees but also big wraps and named as emerg
Gysberts – yet to debut but even bigger wraps

    Any help would be amazing!

  23. Happy go lucky says:

    Hargreave->Webberly & Jamar->Sandi

    or

    Trengove->Armstrong & Jamar->Sandi

    Which is the better trade?

  24. Steps says:

Is the general consensus to keep Ablett as captain this week?? Sandilands had a blinder last week and I cant see anyone from Sydney holding Sandi to under 130+… If anyone can hold the little genius its collingwood… so maybe a change for the week??

    Any thoughts??

  25. jimmy says:

Trade gram? Need to trade either him or Maguire/Waters (which I think will still rise)

  26. Julian says:

@ dude strauss played 2 games earlir this season and didnt do much and has been at casey ever since
