Round 13, the split round, completed.
Man, I should have written the first half of this thing last week- the ol’ memory ain’t what it used to be.
It does remember the first game of the round, particularly Franklin single handedly dominating the Bombers with a couple of runs down the win and quite posibly goal of the year. He top scored for the game with 159, with Watson coming in behind him with 150. Mitchell has finally put in two games in a row with a 110, while Rioli brought up his 4th ton in a row, 102. Schoenmakers had a day out with 95, but I’d hazard a guess that anyone who had him has traded him out by now. Hodge has finally had a bad game putting in a 67, but the effects on his salary won’t be seen in force til next week.
Saturday night saw Fremantle keep back the Blues with Sandilands scoring a big 157 and Barlow following closely behind with a 146. Eddie Betts top scored for the blues with 129 with a 4 goal haul. Jarryd Waite broke a lot of hearts, not because of his 100, but because of his 2 week holiday, while Kep continues his solid form. The biggest news from the game was Mathew Kruezer, doing himself an ACL and is gone for the rest of the season. All of us here at TooSerious are hoping for a speedy recovery for the guy, and not just from a fantasy football front.
Richmond continued their good form knocking off the Lions. Chris Newman top scored with a 137, with Deledio (129), Tuck (126) and Riewoldt (114) following. Staker top scored for the Lions kicking 3 goals and scoring 113. Rockliff put in a solid 106 to put out the gauntlet in the Rock/Pod challenge.
North Melbourne and Port both continued there current form. Good and bad. Harvey top scored with a 152 with Ports Pearce and Schulz taking out 2nd and 3rd spot with a 138 and 127, With Schulz’s seven goal haul not being enough to get them over the line. Lachie Hansen kicked 5 himself which got him a return of 116 points. It’s around now that my memory of the Sundays games gets a little hazy. Honestly I blame the soccer- all these late nights and early mornings aren’t helping at all!
Anyways, the next game for Sunday saw the Bulldogs dominate the West Coast Eagles. Gilbee top scored with 151, with the next highest scorers being Cross (136), Giansiracusa (131) and Griffen (127). Dalziell top scored for the Eagles with 106, while Scooter Selwood but in a great game with 99. Sheppard did just nicely scoring 89 as a rookie while Grant scored a 68. Steven put in a decent first game scoring 42 but sadly, Hurn scored a 33 and got himself injured.
Then we had an intermission. Australia made up for their dismal German performance, but it just wasn’t enough to see them get through. Which was sad because last night, Ghana managed to beat the USA in over time- should have been us!! Ah well, bygones.
This week saw three games, starting off with a grand final rematch. It started off as many would have expected, a tight game, with Geelong pulling away in the second. What no-one expected to see though, was Geelong being kept goalless for a whole half of football with the Saints running away victorious. Even in defeat though, Ablett still top scored with 154. Personally, I reckon second place, Dal Santo was a little ripped off, with one less handall but 4 more marks and tackles (149)- but hey, that’s Supercoach. Bartel and Johnson look to have done themselves some damage, so we’ll have to keep a watch on them throughout the week. While Podsiadly bottom scored for probably the first time this year, with a 24. (Another point to the Lobster!)
Saturday saw the Pies go about it, beating the Swannies by 25 points. Steele Sidebottom (and name of the year winner – personally though, I liked Spontaneous Gordon and Nohjay Nimpson.) top scored with a 133, while Shaw had a welcome return to form scoring 126 points. Mattner and Malceski both scored 118 points while Jolly had a day out against his old team scoring 115 points. Goodes on the other hand failed miserable, with a pitiful 16- shame shame mate, like the balloon boy, in the balloon town with a pin, you’ve let us all down.
Finally, Adelaide are playing themselves back into some form, getting home over the Demons. The top three scorers for the Crows were Goodwin (144), Johncock (132) and Symes (126). Bate top scored for the Demons with 120 while the TipRat brought it home with a 118. With three 110+ in the last 4 weeks, I wonder if any coaches will have the cajones to jump back onto him with Krueze going down? Slone and Jaensch did a great job for their price, both breaking the ton, while Scully scored a 89.
Anyways, I’m getting this post up early because I know that I’m not going to have the time to write anything on the post-lockout stuff later on, I will get the stats up though.
Now, with Hurn, Goodes, 2 zeros and a swag of failures, I reckon I’ll be lucky to break 2k this week- the season is in absolute tatters!! So, after the split round, hows everyone else going? Happy with your year? Or have the wheels fallen off? Give me a couple of good news stories! Cause surely some of you guys have got to be doing well!
@MWA: Opera is a legit web browser. To be safe, just make sure you get it from the official site (http://www.opera.com/mobile/)
@ MWA it works on my Nokia phone using the opera operating system.
This morning re. the Fev – Brown thing.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/brendan-fevola-to-miss-lions-clash-with-carlton-in-melbourne/story-e6frf9jf-1225886033111
It was regarding Sherman’s Mrs.
Beat me to it Turbo.
The key comment being-
and it is understood Fevola and Brown spent last week in Adelaide together receiving treatment from leading physio Steve Saunders
Sherman’s wife isn’t anything special, idiot Fev.
Walesy – they have been a few times throughout the year and Power had a mild bout of OP and he has been there as well.
Any news on who will replace Kruezer? Lets hope its Warnock so I save the Kruezer trade for a week or so and in the mean time do the Maguire > Fisher, Gilbert, Gilbee or whoever trade.
I wouldnt be surprised if Hampson is picked ahead of Warnock as Hampson can also play up forward, Warnock is pretty useless up there.
whats the deal with lockout this week ? Is it partial due to tomorrow night ?
no, partial lockout was only for the first week and the split round.
Fantasy Freako reckons that Riewoldt will be a suprise inclusion this week for St Kilda, hopefully he’ll produce a low score and will be available at under $480k in a few weeks time.
Partial lockout would of been great this week with Warnock playing on thursday night then if he scored poo as an emergeny just put trengrove on the ground to replace him.
anywho back from dreaming – surely Warnock will outscore Trengrove this week with Hille sitting on the bench
(long as warnock is named)
@EssendonDC
See my earlier post: Trengove expected to spend time in the middle = points.
@ MWA
i have the same log in problem with my Blackberry but there is a way around it…… When I open the webpage i can go to options and then select “column view”. The page comes up totally different and allows me to log in…….hope that helps.
Trengove will get f-all Tezza, he is up against Sandialands.
thanks to everyone for your help and advice. I’ll let you know how i go.
Going to have to wear a couple of doughnuts by the looks this week – with Hurn out, Maguire still out, Waite out, JB out, Kreuzer out and Webberley only 50-50 to play.
Tough couple of weeks upcoming, but I had a feeling that would be the case. At least Waite, Hurn, JB and most likely Maguire will be back by Round 16 – in time for the business end of the season.
And Hille’s injury puts off any ruck changes for a smidge. Wayde Skipper, time to stand up.
And the Best Buys page returns with advice on who you can get for Kreuzer, and some other stuff you may or may not find relevant. In any event, a spot for some discussion.
@magpies76/EssendonDC
Good point, tho expect him to take the second ruck (Bradley), but that won’t be any easier. Let’s hope Warnock gets a run.
Richmond weren’t too keen on Martin’s tatts early in the year, I wonder how they’ll like the new ink he’s gotten all over his neck.
hey guess what. I’ve just been able to log on to sc website on mobile. Weird. I’ve tried at least 10 different times this season and it hasn’t worked as i explained on the last page. However just now, the button was back. Logged in and it all worked fine. I think i’ll still trade kreuzer tonight and keep the mobile thing up my sleeve for any selection surprises. Still may not get a chance to use phone at work thurs anyway. Happy and surprised that my phone now works. Not going to worry about that other browser i found out about. I was even considering going to get an iphone today, as i’m due for a new phone anyway, but i’ll put that off for a bit longer as well. Thanks again to everyone on here for help and advice.
what tat has martin got on his neck?
mwa, be very careful as i cannot scroll down through the player lists when i go trade on my iphone (may be a prblem with the iphone browser, safari). you can sort via team, price, average, etc and this is only way to can find to get around it.
missed the pods trade because of this glitch and next week, i bought the SC iphone app
Just as I suspected regarding Warnock:

Carlton – play Warnock FFS!!!
Was never gonna happen with Waite out, need that extra tall with O’Hailpin down there and Warnock aint someone that can play up forward.
Not this week for Volt.

thanks joshyc… I might give it a go before tomoz to check.
Ben – re Martin and his tatts.
Earlier in the year the club were understandibly tying to shield their young player from unnecessary media glare – media glare which had portrayed him as some dumb uneducated young kid, rebellious, anti-whatever, because he left school at Year 9.
The media conveniently overlooked the circumstances surrounding him leaving school, and the fact he worked his arse off in his dad’s business after he left school (not lazy or a bludger).
The tatts would’ve just solidified the media portrayal of Martin as a “bum”, when the club wanted to try and protect him and wanted to just concentrate on getting on the field and making an impact.
Note now the media portrayal of Martin isn’t as “dumb kid with tattoos” but one of “young gun with tattoos” because he’s had a chance to play a bit, talk to the media a little and shape his own portrayal.
The club did their job in protecting him from cheap media exploitation and some of the cheapest stunts in the media arsenal (and trust me, as a journo, I’ve seen them all and used a few myself)
I agree 100% with what Jude Donnelly did, stepping in to stop the media hectoring Martin continually. Good on them for sticking up for their player.
Note also the media are now taking a bit more time to follow up on the actual meanings of the tattoos, and are covering the issue much less sensationally, maybe even respectfully. Why? Simply because they know the kid can play – he and the club have won them over by letting his on-field work do all the talking.
And I’m reckoning Dimma Hardwick won’t give a shit about the tatts as long as Martin continues to play well and do his bit for the team.
Martin has ruined his chances at being Richmond captain in the future, corporate sponsors are usually conservative and would cringe at the thought of having a bloke with clearly visible tatts on his neck captain a side that they’re throwing alot of money at. Captains also usually need to speak on behalf of the club at corporate events, its not a good look. Tatts on the neck/face/hands is still even by todays standards not a good idea. Could also potentially ruin any future Television roles for him.
Ben I totally agree with your last post. Martin is a very foolish young man. I have 3 tatts that I got in my late teens. I am now very close to 40 yrs old and I regret ever getting them. At least I can cover mine up and decide if I want them seen or not. Tatts on the neck, head, face and hands are just not a good idea.
Oh look, I agree – tatts on the neck are something I’d not do (I’ve got a couple, but they can be covered) – and they have the massive potential to shock.
But geez (and I’ll sound old here) the youth of today seem to want to put tatts everywhere. Maybe in 15 years it’ll be the norm. Christ, look at some of the tatts on other guys running around in various sports – even AFL.
Yeah, they can be covered, but geez, I’m happy I’m not the proud owner of Dayne Beams’ or Dane Swan’s arm! Though the tatts are obligatory for Swan of course given his background and his dad being an old Port boy from way back.
But what Ben was talking about was the reaction Martin’s bodyart got when he first arrived at the club, and how the club itself stepped in to stop the media going of their nuts about it. I agrwhat they did 100%, and I agree with what they are doing now – letting the man himself (now he’s settled and a bit more comfy with the media) explain the artwork he has.
As for the captaincyside of things – I reckon Dustin Martin is going to be a leader of men, not a captain. There’s a very real difference. Captaincy will be left to guys like Cotchin, Foley, Newman (at the moment), Deledio. But onfield, Martin will be among the leaders.
