Round 17 review

So, we’re getting to the business of the season- well, at least for SuperCoach. One more round before the finals.

And this round got off to a real humdinger, a draw between the Saints and Hawks, and dare I say, with a little less contraversy, could have been a Hawks win- Cue the Hawks fans predicting September glory… ;) Anyways, the game, Hodge top scored with a great 149. Burgoyne rewarded his owners with a 130 while Sewell rounded out the top3 with a 127. It seems I’ve lost my “Roo won’t break 100 til round 20″ bet, with the big man scoring a 106. Maybe one more week and bringing him in for the finals. Looks like we might be picking up a few bargins through the finals. Namely, Dal Santo’s 77 and Montagna’s 49 will see them both drop significantly from their current $600k pricetag, while in the backline a 45 to Gilbert will raise a few eyebrows.

Saturday rolled around and went off with a pair of thumpings. Firstly, a Dane Swan 190 lead the Pies to absolutely cream the Tigers. Holey, pencil in 3 votes for him mate! ;) Macaffer did suprisingly well with a 150 while Didak tabled a 141. Really, it was all Collingwood, with only one Tiger, Morton, who scored above 100. Not too many suprises considering the score line, but for the Martin owners it was a little sad to see him score only 50.

And next up, the Cats missed doubling the lions by 1 point. This time, Selwood led the way with a great 175 off 41 touches. Bravo to all of you who picked his as captain. Milburn got a great 145, while Gaz returned to his Perma captain roots, with a 144. Worryingly though, it took him kicking 5 goals to do it! Personally, I liked having a chance to compare Rockliff to Pods- With the Pod getting ahead early, it good to see the Lobster getting a game back with his 101 to Pods 70.

Saturday night saw the Bombers fall over the line against a valant Roos outfit by 3 points. However it was the Swallow who took the cream as the highest scorer with a 156. Watson and Greenwood took the next two spots with a 139. I hear that someone’s opponent had Greenwood- did you still get the win mate? bloody unlucky though! :) Hardingham kicked 4 goals on debut for a 89, while MacMillian and Speight both got solid 40’s.

The other game saw the Eagles give the Blues a run for their money, getting out to a big lead at half time, only to get blown away in the 3rd quarter as the Blues kicked a massive 7.9. Simpson top scored with a 139 while Murphy and Grigg came in next with a 129 and 121. Le Cras top scored for the Eagles kicking 3.5 and scoring 113. Waite scored a 102, but scored himself another report in junk time- will he never learn?! Hams did magnificently scoring 95 off 13 touches, while newbie Strijkl did great with a 95. But it wasn’t enough to get them up with a number of disappointing efforts- Priddis 68, Hurn 60, NitNat 52, Cox 33 and Sheppard 27 were all telling of the Eagles game.

So, Sunday rolled around and bam, all of my tips went askew. Despite a trip to the NT last week, the Doggies managed to come back into town and destroy the Dockers. Unsuprisingly, the Dogs dominated the top scores, with the CoonDog top scoring with a 130. Griffen did well with a 124 while Harbrow’s 120 means that any neccessary back upgrades could be looking in his direction. Suban, Pav and Johnson all top scored for the dockers, and all on 99 points. The biggest news though was Sandilands. A 45 to the big man will hurt a lot of SuperCoaches. However, more hurt will be anyone covering with Fyfe, Roberton or Morabito- scoring 26, 16 and 7 retrospectively.

Next game saw the Dees destroy a near guarenteed September for Sydneys. In fact, were they not a game clear of 9th and 2 clear of 10th- with a heck of a lot of percentage, I would have written them off after their efforts today. But with 5 games left, they haven’t done themselves any favors today. Suprisingly, Goodes top scored, with a 141. Green and the maligned Sylvia came next with a 123 and 117. The biggest news for the game though is ROK. 25 points for the guy, anyone got any ideas on how that happened? :)

The final game for the round say me go 0/3 in tips for the day. The second team today to win from a trip back from NT. Port was lead by Chaplin who scored a 150, Cassisi with a 146 and Ebert with 130. Meanwhile, Adelaide only had 3 players who scored above 80 points. Adelaides barometer, the Tipster lost along with Adeliade, scoring a miserable 32. Not as miserable as Hitchcock or Stewart who scored a 20 and 17 respectively.

So that’s our week. A funny funny week in footy. In non footy news, apparently girls like Julia Gillard and boys like Tony Abbott. Seriously, since when did real life become high, no, primary school where you pick your team on gender lines? Bah, at least Masterchef is providing better watching :)

Joshy did a great job getting EPL talk into it’s own thread, and I believe he’ll be doing the same thing again this week- so everyone, wait til that thread before you get talking about the Drogba surgery… ;)

I hear the good folk at iScent have extended their comp out to the end of the year, so as a thanks, I reckon you should all at least head over there and see what they have to offer. :)

So there we go- we’re getting close to the business end. Stats will go up once lockout ends and perhaps more importantly, how are you all doing?

if pods doesnt play hes traded for st nick!!! if he does hes still trades for st nick pods we had a good run together but its time to go seperate ways

  2. Paul74 says:

    cheers Fez.

  3. Tiger Ben says:

Haha sorry guys, what I mean is I know Playfair is retired I was just suggesting another avenue.

    @Paul

You already have an ace STARTING fwd line so I see your point in not wanting/or being able to spend much on a direct Playfair trade. I was thinking more of a 2 trade move to replace Playfair but that depends on the structure of the rest of your team. You could downgrade or sideways a def to a MPP (Grundy, Phil Davis, Waite) and there must be others but I have those for example. Or better if you currently have a MPP def/fwd in there you can trade Playfair for say Phil Davis IF you have cover on your def bench. Or on the flipside if you have mid cover and an MPP you can move them fwd to cover a donut for say McNeil instead of Playfair.

I don’t know if that makes sense and if it does you may still have better options out there but having MPP in my team is something very important after last yr – I played my first prelim and narrowly lost with 3 or 4 donuts to a full strength opponent.

  4. Tiger Ben says:

lol fez it sounds like you’re breaking up with him! poor pods he’s only 28, hardly an old man!

  5. fez says:

yeah a bit like the mark williams port adelaide saga a marriage that just lost the spark!!!

  6. Tiger Ben says:

and not nearly as sick as the Buckley McGuire love affair :) …throw Mick in there too lol it’s getting nasty.

Back on topic Pods break even is 120 so I wouldn’t mind if he missed this week then he would keep his value and I can see what St Nick does before acting next week!

  7. keefy says:

    Good…wi..n!!!!

  8. Bunchaduds says:

    @Paul
    This from afl website
Luke Tapscott turned a few heads in Casey’s game against Collingwood. Tapscott is fast improving and could score a senior game before the year is out.
Could b one to look at

  9. Paul74 says:

@TB – Cheers, It does make sense, but sadly I dont have MPP FWD/DEF coverage and dont want to use a double trade with only 4 trades left. I’m going to need coverage as Chappy, Pods, Pav will get rested at some point in the coming weeks. I’m leaning towards Ellard as he’s cheap and I’ll pocket $90 odd grand, but again willing to listen to all options.

  10. Paul74 says:

@ Bunchadus, duly noted and added to watchlist. Ta.

  11. fez says:

any good downgrades in defence what to make some money out of silvagni

  12. fez says:

not a bad point tiger ben with the pods situation, although i think riewoldt will score big this week and may need it cos in one league sitting 7th with a win could snare 4th loss could drop to 9th

  13. Bunchaduds says:

    Smith @174k
    Moore @139k
    Thats all really
Davies could get a game this week with armfield out

  14. fez says:

bunchaduds yeah think missed boat with smith thinking mayb just bargain basement to sit on bench and will have nason as cover can always do the silvagni trade later in finals as hes out for 3 weeks

  15. Greg says:

Shuey listed as test……Maybe a couple of weeks in WAFL

Could be handy cover, come finals time………once the great general soreness spreads through top8 teams

  16. Julian says:

any word on what sheedy is planning to do this week? I have him in my last league match with a win vital to finals.

he is a guppy, but I fear him pulling out all the stops…

  17. Herbie66 says:

    Paul74

for $ 185,00.00 I would buy Fev……………………for what you wan’t him for, a 40 or 50 maybe just what you need to get over the line, and he could just jag a huge one

who knows with all the other “cheaper” options how many games they will play, half of them are unknowns and may only play 1 or 2 games

  18. Herbie66 says:

    Paul74

do you have any MPP Fwds/Mids currently in your midfield?

always buy McNeil (Sydney) as a forward then swap him with a mid if you need cover

I currently have McNeil, Winmar (both of who won’t play) and Neon acting as my midfwd back-up along with Gumby as my other forward

have 3 trades left myself, waiting on what happens with Hille before I use them on thinking Martin to Goodes and then Gumby to Reiwoldt, N and hoping things fall into place

Confirmation that Pods is feeling the pinch and could be rested along with Enright. Sorry if it has already been posted.

  20. torn says:

Enright, Goodwin, Shaw, silvagni all possible outs in my backs this week lol
    Could be disastrous!

  21. JoshyC says:

EPL post is up lads :)

  22. Jake says:

As a supercoach tragic, I’m already looking at next year, Petrie in the ruck as an example. I’m wondering if the site will be able to produce PROJECTED values for players for next year once R22 has finished. Petrie as the example again, his value is $480,000ish at the moment, but what would be his likely price next year. Sort of like a breakeven projection but from season to season. Any thoughts anyone?

  23. Fez says:

jake his value will be based on his average this year think an average of a 100 = starting price 570,000,

torn shaw is a monty to play this week silvagni is out for 3 weeks and goodwin is doubtful

  24. Jake says:

    Fez,
I’ll give another example. David Hille’s value in 2009 was $460,00ish before he did his knee. This year his starting value was $309,000. How does Champion data calculate that?

  25. JoshyC says:

Paul, I agree with herbie. At 185K, you can’t go past fev on the pine, he will give the cover u rquire for the season

  26. EssendonDC says:

shaw should be back this week guys

  27. JJ says:

Fez is half right. a player’s starting salary is their previous year’s average * the “magic number” (which this year was about 5311 – so a 100 average = $531k). But players who were injured for a significant amount of the season (appx more than 10 games) get a discount on top of that. See this page for how the discounts were broken down this year:

    http://www.fanfooty.com.au/blog/2010/02/04/2010-dream-team-discounts/

It’s impossible to predict what the exact discounts will be next year because they change every year.

  28. Lucas says:

    Best buys is up.

And I’m doing another quick one for a poll on Rising Star.
    Could get interesting this year.

  29. Jake says:

    JJ,

    Thanks for that, appreciated.
