Round 9 Review.
Wow, what a week. I though the curses of round 7 had passed… but round 8 turned to be a false dawn…
But before I start on the bad, let’s reflect a little on the good. we’ll start with a classic by one Jerry Jeff Walker.
I knew a man, BeauMuston, and he danced for you
In worn out shoes.
With silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants,
The old soft shoe.
He jumped so high, jumped so high, then he lightly touched down.
135! What a debut performance for this kid. He’s being brought into my team so fast it’s gunna make your head spin! (Well, after next week anyways… three knee reconstructions don’t provide me too much faith…
)
Jesus is back and as good as ever… still has a break even of 198 though, so those thinking of jumping on board still have one more week to free up a little dosh.
Neon Leon is back! What an absolute freak! Definitely the performer of the year so far (in my opinion!)
And finally, Haselby… making himself a fairly safe #6 mid to those of us both with him, and struggling for trades…
Now onto the bad news.
Paul Chapman. OUCH! I was suprised to here 1-2 weeks… I’m doubting one week… particularly with two games to play before the split round week off.
Shaun Higgins. Keep an ear out on this boy. Injury prone, but man, do we all wish he could become a keeper!
Lindsay Gilbee. Lots have recently traded him in due to his form lift… here’s to hoping he doesn’t miss a week.
Aaron Sandilands. See Gilbee…
Jarrad Waite. Oh dear god WHY!!! WHY Do this to me!!!
As well as bad scoring all around.
Heck, the #1 team, retained their position with a score of 2,060.
The Number 3 league moved up to Number 1 with an average of 1895. Way below their overall overage of 2118.
That said, that league is known as the TooSerious Legends.
Way to go boys! A supurb effort! Currently headed up by Virginia. Who’s sitting in 34th overall!
A brilliant effort everyone!.
So… should I ask about your weekends? Or perhaps just hide under a rock for the week?
Anyone reckon Roo could hit 550k or so in the next 2 – 3 weeks?
Would prefer to take Higgins up.
only if the dees defense doesnt leak as much as it did against the hawks. if they do, roo might well just get his b/e
Lucas,
No need for an apology mate. It’s great to have people here to bounce ideas off & your advice is always appreciated. I still could have made the call to bring Maxwell in & I would be patting myself on the back if I did.
Alas, I brought in Waite…
Which does put me in the market for another back. Four tons in a row is good enough I reckon & Maxwell is still under 500K. I’ll bring him in this week. As things stand, I’ll be praying he just stays on the park
Just wanting everyone’s thoughts on Scott McMahon from North Melbourne. Seems to be having a pretty decent year – is he worth considering, particularly given he is listed both as a defender and a forward?
Disposal rate seems good – have only seen him play live once or twie and he seems to kick it decently… what is his role at the moment (does it remain one running off half back). Is he worth considering as a somewhat unique option?
Any input would be great!!
I’m quite liking the look of him this year. He’s on my short list for Waite… though like everyone else in my backline- he’ll struggle once he comes into it…
not sure where he is playing Chris, but Pratt will be back soon. Doing pretty well though.
Was very tempted on McMahon for last week with 38, 107, 108 scores and $413k price tag. Obviously was about to drop that terrible 38 from his rolling score average, and he produced an impressive 122 last week and rose to $451.
Gut feel stopped me trading him in (there must have been a reason for the 38) and I went for ROK at $50k more exp. Previous 2 years average only 54 (if that matters).
Havent watched him play but did listen to most of last weeks game on the radio and he seemed very damaging when he had the ball. Prob explains his SC122 score being alot high than his DT82 score.
4 Marks 4 Tackes and 4 Inside50s adds up some nice points to kicks and hbs.
He seems in the best form of his career but can he keep it up and can the Roos get enough of the ‘pie’ to have him as a fwd keeper?
Very solid year thus far BUT the jury is still out for me.
Brian Lake. Talk to me people. He started the year off nicely with games of 92, 132, 116…but since then has been average. I presuming he is not injured, and I can’t see that his role has “changed”, considering he has always had the responsibility in the backline over the past few years in which he averaged I think 91 (08) and 102 (07)
With a high breakeven I won’t be jumping on this week, BUT he may represent value pretty soon…

nothing wrong with Brian other than his random brain fades. the backline has been under more pressure lately with hargreaves and to a much lesser extent addison out injured recently and also t williams and everitt are struggling big time. think this has lead to less freedom / run for him down deep which has reduced his scoring capacity but would think this should return over next couple. dogs are really missing hargreaves with his quad strain but should be back in a week which should take some pressure off Lake nee Harris.
Eade has decided to screw us over by hinting that while Higgins will be named, he is a chance to be a late withdrawl. If they rest him, I’ll keep, if they’re going to try and play him through injury he’s gone. The memories of holding onto Porplyzia last year while he played through injury are too fresh. Now they’re going to look like playing him but might rest him? THIS IS NOT MAKING THE DECISION EASIER ROCKET!

Fryzie – Higgins is a goner for me I think.
I watched the whole game last Friday and its as simple as this – he is not right. Higgins looked hugely proppy, couldn’t get to contests, struggled to runand move with any fluidity.
These problems are not going to evaporate or fix themselves overnight. Rest and weeks off are what is needed – I can’t believe the Bulldogs are even thinking about playing him.
I don’t need someone in my side who has a lingering/chronic injury. Even if he gets fit in 6 weeks (one of the prognoses), its 6 weeks I’ve had with him in my side, dragging down scores.
I compare it to the Hodge situation. We wouldn’t have traded Hodge into sides if we knew he had a lingering injury. The news came out too late for some, who had already traded him in, and for many of those who did trade him in, it is the only reason why they are keeping him (not to blow another trade, potential for big scores later on).
I don’t mind blowing the trade on Higgins as he can be upgradable to a keeper – something which many of us were tossing up over the past few weeks with guys like he, Krakouer, etc.
Upgrading him finishes my forward line – a bit earlier than expected, but the structure will now be there.
Thanks also for your input re McMahon guys – while I’m tempted to grab him as a defender, I think I may hold off and wait a little while to see what other options might present – including Mr Hodge upon his return.
I think i will also trade out Higgins for the same reasons as you have listed above. Judd had groin issues the other year and he held him back as well.
The question is who to upgrade him to. I have plenty of $$ so that is not an issue, i am leaning towards Pav or ROK, i think they are both reasonable value and both should be keepers. Any preference or anyone else you thinking of?
Cheers
maybe trujello is correct, at only $506k aaron davey sits third overall on the fwd line averages, is the dees ablett equivalent nowadays and doesn’t really get much of a mention imo. was averaging 114 last week now 109 but must be considered as a midfielder you can get cheaply as a fwd.
One to keep an eye one. Jarrad Brennan.
A pre-season injury has kept his game-time down so far this year, but last week he took a step up. he’s got about 5% more TOG in him before he reaches his heights of last year.
Excellently priced if he can hold a 95+ average to the end of the season…
Davey has a decent b/e (130) this week, and he hasn’t been anywhere near that in the last 3 weeks. Against the saints who have a habit of keeping scores low, gutsy, like him as a somewhat different choice tho.
Guys, there is a break coming up, if they rest Higgins for 2 now, he then has another 2 weeks with the break, which should be more than enough time to get him right. BUT, he aint gonna score for the next 2 that’s for sure.
If you are holding Chappy this gets even harder, as you have 2 guns out up forward.
Clubs annoy the shit out of me, if the dogs had said 3 weeks ago that he has a fairly decent injury, he would have been gone straight away for me, on the basis of 5 games out(last week is an out for me!)..now here we are almost thru the 5 weeks..big call.
Timmy
Lakey has been moved forward in patches, and while he seems to do OK there it isn’t helping his scoring, which is built off taking marks off the oppositions kicks.
Higgins, krakouer and chappy are really starting to annoy me. Will Taylor Walker ever not get a starting spot? One of them is very likely to go, probably Higgins or Krakouer.
the decision on krakouer is hard if he’s listed. was he just in dire need of a week off and if so, will he come back to his previous form after his rest? or have teams started paying more attention to him hence the lower scores? it would be great if he could start hitting those 80’s again as avoiding a trade is always a good thing. id like to think they do the smart thing and give higgins some time off until after the split round, which is now what i think they are going with hodgey (browny said hodge will be right for the sydney match next week but hodge himself said that in addition to missing this week, he probably had one or two more games to miss – should return week after the split in all likelihood).
As for walker, if higgins is given the rest he deserves then i think i’ll stick him on the bench and trade walker up to a keeper (ROK most likely) with m.brown as coverage.
Already thinking about next week… and the Jesus upgrade
What’s the deal with Hartlett, is his spot safe, or will it go when Salopek, SBurgoyne etc come back?
I am trying to decide b/w Rich and Hartlett for the downgrade to Muston (assuming he gets through this week), and am thinking that Rich is starting to lag like a lot of other rookies
Salpeck played last weekend. Burger is still weeks away as well, tho you should check that.
Rich is on my trade watch, but they are all going to get a small rest with the split round, see what happens this week bandit
