Round 17 is up!

Righteo, we are one week out of the finals. So is your season over? gunna squeak in? or dominating you league?

Myself, I might squeak in maybe in one league, might make the top 4 in another (or go out if things go badly!), and am dominating the third… so it’s a mixed bag. :)

Anyways, tragedy struck this week! The TooSeriousLegends dropped down to 2nd place. They didn’t do too bad, but sadly, there we a *lot* of big scores out there this week, and we didn’t seem to get our fair share of them… ah well, here’s hoping we can pull together got the finals. :)

Anyways, Liveforthepies snuck back into the lead with a massive 2513 taking her overall ranking up to 187. But with only 113 points seperating 1st from 5th, it’s anyones game! (Then it drops off to me in 6th and probably too far out to challenge…)

The top score for the week went to Lings Bandits (reckon that’s the same one Lucas?), with a decent 2718. And I gotta give a shout out to a fellow BigFooty NP – 54Dogs who came in 9th for the week. Top effort mate!

The overall is tightening up with the leader PK Le Grand consolidating his lead with a 2511, but still within arms reach of TS favorite Buster Gonad who held steady in 3rd. Meanwhile the Woodyman is hanging in the top 10, and with 5 weeks to go, is definitely not out of the hunt. Carn lads we’re rootin’ for yas!

This weeks top scorer went to Geelongs Joel Selwood for a telling 185 in their 1 point win over the Hawks.
Jolly rewarded those who have him, scoring an elite 169 – and getting has average to a more than solid 169. That Jolly White Currie is looking delicious (cept for White 4!! :D )
The Heater pulled a tasty 161, rewarding those coaches who jumped on him in round 12.
And Bock returned a solid 155.
Goddard rounds out the top five with a 152.

The dissapointments (as always, in no particular order)
Hodge and his 53. Not only did a lot of people trade into him this week, but resident poster Lucas warned all against him! Still, with Hawthorns return to form, you’ve got to hope that he’ll come good again!
Bruce Cameron scored a lowly 66 in a match that me and my son watched tonight.
(“are the Blue ones the Blues?” he asked. “oh… Can I go for the Blues?” yep, definitely did something wrong with that one!)
And really, that’s about it. No wonder there were so many huge scores this week!

And one final through to you all, I’m not going to post the scores, but those of you in the Too Serious Best and Fairest… Hope you’ve been keeping an eye on Dane Swan… he might be making a close thing of it! ;)

How’d you all go this week?

    Salopek out!

  2. Julian.. Dees says:

grimes in,,, gilbert out some1 explain that

  3. spud says:

    gilbert has back soreness apparently.
im not convinced bradshaw will play, sounds like a bit of a bluff to be honest.

  4. Julian.. Dees says:

yh probably,,,,apparent back soreness,, is he the 1st of there guns to b rested?

  5. LK says:

finally, a full SC squad – first time this season- steve J, grimes, kosi, pratt in and no one out.

  6. Julian.. Dees says:

nice.. ful team dont happen often

  7. LK says:

one question, who should i start in my mid- d.rich, “adam” selwood or L. anthony

  8. JJ says:

rich has the highest average, the biggest upside and is in the best of the three teams, i would have thought he was a shoe in there :) .

i’m gonna pull the plug on cox this week – money/value’s not an issue at all, what do people think of sandi? He’s had really great scores this year, even against geelong (140) and freo’s got a few good games coming up in the finals (dons, melb, PTA). My only concern is him getting rested, do people think that’s a real concern?

  9. cjudd=brownlow says:

hey guys need advise with my forward line.
with higgins injury i have 447k to spend on a forward.
i currently have volt, okeefe, johnson, chappy, deledio, pavlich and i have cover with ballantyne.
the decision to trade or not to trade is killing me, and if i do trade someone in… who??
i want goodwin but he is just out of reach.
my team is complete by the way so will be using the 4 trades on possible injuries.
i have anthony and grimes sitting on the bench aswell

    cheers in advance

  10. simon says:

Wow…..depth…….6/8 bench players all playing and its Rd 18……with only Higgins inj.

Obviously gonna walk into a SC S%$#storm sometime in the next few weeks as payback for the good fortune. Its a lot like golf, when you rip one perfectly u just know the golf-gods have a shank waiting for you shortly after…..

  11. simon says:

cjudd…..the player you want is just above Goodwin, and you’ve stated ur just short on him.

    Can u wait a week ?

  12. exprez says:

simon – go bartel as captain. almost always goes well at skilled stadium, seems to be a 20-30 pts better player there.

  13. Matty says:

    Hey guys,

I will finish first in all my leauges i have 5 trades left still have Cox, Hill (freo) and Higgins in my team and have 225,000 left. I was thinking jolly for cox, would it be to risky going cornes or fisher for Hill so i can pik up chapman for higgins? Or should i get Bock for Hill and settle for davis or goodwin for higgins

What do you think its killing me

  14. JJ says:

are you sure you want to bring in jolly? take a look at sydney’s run home, it’s pretty harsh (saints, richmond, geelong, collingwood lions). I doubt jolly’s going to get much points up forward against those teams.

  15. walesy says:

    Just a hot tip for everyone… in the absense of a doggie… C – J. Selwood, VC – Juddyjudd.

  16. simon says:

Um Walsey – is that what you’ve told the better half to do ?

Doesnt help me – no Judd ( because I was going to swap your C/VC’s choices around ) as I’m sure your wife will be doing likewise.

Its Thurs eve hear in nyc, and as you lot have forbidden me to trade one of my last two in the 15 slab league…..anyone want to play 0 & X’s ?

    :)

  17. walesy says:

:D That’s the one. :D And yes, you are FORBIDDEN!

  18. willy says:

@JJ i know u say the value of rok and chappy may drop but by how much?? rok is 140k out of range and chappy 96k out of range will they drop those sort of values i think not! already have voldt and brown thats why i was thinking of pav or leon well within price range both to rise next week. So i am still left with the question to trade or not to trade……….

  19. Jim says:

4 of my backs went out this week with only Grimes coming in… so 2 donuts for me this week!

  20. Nik says:

What’s the word on Cox? Out for the season? Why wouldn’t you go for Jolly??? those teams on Sydney’s run home have crappy rucks?? Sandilands are better choice? no injury concerns?

  21. Hammer says:

replacement for higgins Leon, boomer or T.Cloke?

  22. simon says:

As i’m banished from trading – will live vicariously thru you last three:
(just my op. guys – I still say the correct answer is your gut)

Jim – will assume that you dont need to trade to preserve a finals run.
Nik – Cox is done, he’s cooked – really at the end of the day jolly/sandi/clark – there wont be much separating them over the final month, certainly nothing that we can control anyway.
Hammer – I’m a Pie man – and I say boomer – again its much for muchness, but he has NO teammates and he truly is a great footballer player, no way he lays down. TC drives you mad with his inconsistency and Neon is a gun, but has sooooo many other players to take points from him.

  23. Jim says:

Nah i’m playing the bottom team… so should win… only have 2 trades left so will wait it out…

  24. willy says:

playing second last who was 2 zeros cox and fraser. thinking that a trade may be hasty sitting 7th but have 3 teams right behind me to knock me out if i get done. i will have complete team plus rance emer def, and mitch brown cover for higgins. or do i go the juggular and get rid of higgins for leon? like to hear anyone with thoughts to help

  25. Lucas says:

@Hammer – I assume you have Buddy. Of those 3 Leon is the one. Boomer is not quite firing like he used to be. Pasture for the year and only consider him for 2010 if he gets some miles in the legs.
Leon seems to be doing a job both forward and midfield so he should have bites at the cherry for goal assists, inside 50s, all those nice extras.

Stay away from Cloke. One of these years I expect for him to “breakout” but it won’t be 2009, and maybe not 2010. Maybe more like Bucks’ first year as coach when he gets the ultimatum – play well or sayonara.

I’m not trading this week – 4 for the finals. Here’s my current team – feel free to advise where you would trade in the coming weeks. 4 trades and 93k left. My thoughts – one ruck, 1-2 defence, 1 mid and 0-1 forward.

D – Goddard, Lockyer, Hodge, Milburn, C Cornes, Broughton, Suban (Grimes, Adcock)
M – Ablett (c), Selwood, Bartel, Gibbs, Pendlebury, Rich (Anthony, Muston)
F – Riewoldt (vc), Chapman, Deledio, Franklin, Roughead, S Johnson, Thomas (Sidebottom, M Brown)
R – Sandilands, Fraser (Meesen, Jacobs)

  26. Pre says:

what do u think boys? jolly/m clark or sandilands?
also looking for a forward thinking either, leon/goodwin/pav maybe even steve j? some help would be much appreciated lads, thanks

  27. spud says:

Bradshaw out by the way, hardly suprising though.

Anyone else feel that north might be a legitimate show tonight against the blues? The game certainly has huge ramifications for carlton who are still fighting to stay in the finals race, but just how much will adam simpsons last game impact on the players? The kangas seem to have a habbit of stepping up for those milestone/retirement games

  28. chris88 says:

Sounds like it s season over for Cox:

    http://www.watoday.com.au/sport/cox-fears-his-season-could-be-over-20090731-e3vo.html

At least that sounds like confirmation for mine … feel a bit more confident about using a trade to bring in someone in his place now.

I’ve gotten through the last few rounds without doing so, but in reading this it might be time.

  29. Bandit says:

2 trades this week leaving me 3 trades and 54k for finals… one forced through injury, and I dropped Grimey for Goddard… maybe a tad rash, but only going for league wins now, and on top in both.

Here is the team for the run home:

D – Goddard, Lockyer, Hodge, Newman, Gilbee, Mackie, Broughton (Grima, Hurley)
M – Ablett (c), Selwood, Judd, Goodes, Pendlebury, Rich (Anthony, Muston)
R – McIntosh, Kreuzer (Spencer, Jacobs)
F – Riewoldt (vc), Franklin, Didak, Pavlich, J Brown, O’Keefe, Fevola (Walker, M Brown)

In my opinion, the team is pretty much set, volatile forward line… but hey.

  30. semmo says:

Spud I seem to recall North getting hammered in a couple of retirement games in recent years, Anthony Stevens was one, and at least one other since then, can’t recall who. I remember Laidley whinging about it a couple of times. If Carlton are any good at all they should win tonight.

  31. asanque says:

    Probably Glenn Archer?

  32. spud says:

Hmm, perhaps im remembering milestone games as opposed to retirement games *shrug*.

Okay, perhaps i can find a better ‘roughy’ to tip this week than the roos. I reckon adelaide could give the cats a good show and would have picked them had it been at AAMI, but geelong play SS so well! And if westcoast weren’t so hellbent on losing games, i would rate them a chance against the depleted bombers.

  33. asanque says:

My roughy is a multi with all 8 favourites :P

  34. hammer says:

thanks Lucas. I was thinking the same thing
    current forward line Brown/Roo/Deleido/Pav/Roughhead/Franklin/higgins
    In: leon

  35. walesy says:

Teams simply don’t get up for milestone games. It seems to be one of those myths that seem to be believed by every media outlet and their dog.

If the team get’s up, it’s cause they were inspired by the milestone.
If not, it’s just not mentioned…

Bandit mate, looking well placed! Gotta feel good to have cover and a full team in all positions right now! :D

  36. semmo says:

Spud, I wouldn’t write the Roos off – I just said if Carlton are any good they should win! :-) The question remains to be answered I guess.

And Walesy I agree re West Coast. Essendon obviously agree as well, they’re resting half their side. I think they could put their VFL side out there and still win this week.

  37. JJ says:

yeah, lol @ north’s last milestone game (simpsons’ 300) vs adelaide. They scored what 1 goal in the first half and 4 total?

  38. Louis says:

Quick question, Leon davis or Aaron Davey?

  39. walesy says:

Personally? I regret picking up Davey 5 weeks ago. One of my worst for the year I reckon. Melbourne have the tank dial set to full.
