The Bump?

Right, I’m gunna move this to a post as I feel there is the chance it could take over the comments section of one of the fantasy posts.

Franklin knocking Cousins unconcious. Not a nice thing to do, but sure it should be fine being in the spirit of the game?

I believe it should be, sadly, due to a similar incidend at the start of the year, Nick Maxwell scored a 4 week suspension, which he got off on.

Prompting a change in the wording of the rule.

The new wording of the rough conduct ruling states a player can be reported where in the bumping of an opponent, reasonably or unreasonably, he causes “forceful contact to be made with any part of his body to an opponent’s head or neck and instead of bumping, the player had a realistic alternative to contest the ball; or tackle the opponent.”

Previously, Law 19.2.2(g)(vii) simply stated a player could be reported for “engaging in rough conduct against an opponent which in the circumstances is unreasonable”

So while the rule itself might be BS- The rule is on the books, and until changed, will see cases like this Buddy one, scoring time on the sidelines.

The only way I can see Buddy getting off is if he can successfully argue that the bump was his only option. That he couldn’t have laid a tackle… Gunna be a tough rap to beat I reckon.

Here’s hoping that if he does cop 2 weeks, that the outrage that his the media will be enough to get such a clumsy rule overturned.

What’s this about Hmac?!?! Haven’t heard boo of this?!?

  2. Dixie Flatline says:

    @ Lucas.

Bud copped a reprimand last year because he bumped Doughty high. But it was clear as day (well, night – it was a night game) that Osborne’s tackle was dragging Doughty down just as Bud applied the bump.

To say Bud Regal has history is laughable. Ha ha.

Just off Buddy for a second – but what are everyone’sthoughts on captaincy this week?

GAJ playing a bogey side might mean other options have to be investigated – what are your thoughts?

  4. JJ says:

montagna or many saints v dees looks pretty good I think.

  5. The game is becoming completely foreign… and for what? So Demetriou can win over a few soccer mums scared of a bump, WEAAAAAAAAK. Demetriou is a bigger dictator than Hiter and unlike a shit politician we cant vote this Flog out, he wont leave until… every tradition is butt raped in the name of political correctness and the “image” of the game -good for Essendon but :)

  6. Well since big buddy left
He’s found a new place to dwell
Its down at the end of AFL street
    The appeals board hotel

    Buddy’s been suspended baby
    Buddy’s been suspended baby
His donuts will make me cry

And Although he did bump fairly
He is still suspended to burn in hell
    his lost his tooth
    and his diginity in
    heart break hotel

    Buddy’s been suspended baby
    Buddy’s been suspended baby
His donuts will make me cry

    Well the tears keep flowing
    The supercoaches dressed in black
They’ve been on buddy street and
    a living toothless hell

    Buddy’s been suspended baby
    Buddy’s been suspended baby
His donuts will make me cry

So if big buddy leaves you
The tribunal and time will tell
    just walk down emergency street
    to heart break hotel

Well it’s one for the Buddy,
    Two for the Roughy,
Three for the Williams now, Now
    Go Hawks go
    Don’t you
Blame injuries your poor form on them injuries!

GAJ’s bogey man is Ryan Crowley and he won’t be playing but GAJ only scored 98 last time without Crowley playing.
Pav normally plays well against Geelong but checking the stats, his SC scores haven’t been too high at Kardinia. 77,83,70 (last 3 games there)
Judd hasn’t done too well Vs Adelaide in the past. Swan and Goddard look pretty safe bets.
I’m probably going to stick with GAJ. As none of my other Captain options are looking too good this week either. Probably only consider Goddard.

    —-
    EPL
Doing pretty well over at iinet sitting in 6th overall! I’m going to use my trades to chase that monthly prize.
But with a similar team over at premierleague.com I’m sitting on the bottom of our comp… work that out!

  8. spud says:

    Elvis,
Unfortunately one isnt playing, two isnt playing, and three isnt playing. I’ll blame our form on whatever i deem appropriate :)

  9. buzz says:

Any thoughts for my Gf team would be appreciated. I’ve had Cross on the bench with Anthony covering for the last couple. Should I automatically bring Cross back in as I often worry about scores post ankle injury + surgery to boot. My opponent will likley play with anthony in his mids.
The other issue is my backline. I’ve had Gilbee on the pine for the last couple games and had Gilbert, Broughton, drummond, chad, enright, hodge and lockyer on the ground with rance my other on the pine. Gilbee looked like he was getting back into the swing of things last game and I’m toying with putting him back on and Lockyer on the pine as his last 4 game average is only 67. My opponent also has Gilbee so am i better to stick with him or keep a point of difference.
Actually Lockyer hasn’t really had a damaging score against good opposition for the entire year so I’m thinking I would be mad to leave him on. I hope that is not a kiss of death.

  10. JJ says:

do you reckon broughton’s going to do much against geelong? he’s been a bit off the past couple of weeks and it could be a massacre at cardinia.

  11. chris says:

Broughton seems to wrack up the big scores when Freo get smashed….i reckon he could pull out another 100+ score this week.

What are people expectations this weekend for 1. GAJ? and 2. Saints v Melbourne (resting players cos they will be up by 100 pts at half time?)

  12. JJ says:

GAJ will bust his gut to get a big score for brownlow points. Really not sure what the saints are going to do, don’t they want to play themselves into some form and show people they’re not off track with an uncompromising massive victory? or maybe not, who knows.

  13. pinkbatts says:

If they’re up 100Pts at half time , combined with CD winning team loading, expect some massive saints scores. Think the saints will want a full hit out on the G, maximum rotations etc., need to get their groove back with a confidence building demolition. In fact think you may find the opposite and Melbourne will play for the first half, and then resume the tank. Fevola was well held last week, until bailey made a coaching master stroke, and gifted him 3 cheap second half goals. Saints need run through the gears.

  14. Lucas says:

Agreed GAJ will do quite well this week – Freo doesn’t have the stoppers to hold him. And he will be driven to get 3 votes. 40+ touches I think is if not a certainty, a likely occurence, even if he does get rested late in the game.

Saints v Melbourne – will be reasonably close until half time with the Saints easing away. Mainly through Melbourne tanking but also through a few players getting a run. Effectively what pinkbatts said.

Broughton – I think he might be in the 70-100 range. Unsure about opponents scoring big even in defence at the Cattery. This will be one steamed up Geelong side looking for confidence. I predict an 80 point win or a crisis – one or the other.

If Freo happens to get up, it could represent the storming of the castle.

  15. Daryl says:

Any comments on who to select as my 6th midfielder, Rich or Anthony? I cannot seem to get this one right. I have stuck with Rich over recent weeks and Anthony has been scoring higher. On the occasions that I have selected Anthony over Rich, Rich has outscored. My opponent this week has neither. Anthony vs Port at AAMI or Rich vs Sydney at SCG?

  16. chris says:

just to let u guys know….i just got a phone call from Herald Sun and made sure i specifically dropped the tooserious name!

  17. Ben says:

“Demetriou is a bigger dictator than Hiter”, you sir are a flog of the highest order.

  18. Timmy says:

Good work Chris! I’m surprised Walsey hasn’t made up a t-shirt or cap up for any potential photo shoot ;)

  19. chris says:

no way Timmy…photo will be taken in the BARMY ARMY shirt!!!

  20. Timmy says:

Haha! Nice way to stir the pot!! :)

  23. chris says:

no really….it’s just good timing but i’m wearin my barmy army shirt today….

  24. spud says:

haha trouble stirer Chris :D thankfully when you’re en route to 50k, you don’t need friends hehe. do us a favour though, if you end up blowing the 50k on piss, don’t heat it up, drink it cold ;)

  25. chris says:

ok…enough fun….time to put the lid back on this thing….still gotta weekend of footy to get through first…all he has to do with his players is average about 16 more than mine….thats nothin….

  26. asanque says:

    No Chapman :(

    No Stevie J as well.

Bloody Chapman, never again! Took him over Riewoldt for some reason 6 weeks back.

With Buddy out (subject to appeal).
Its become Nahas v O’Keefe. Not good at all.

  27. Ben says:

    Newman out

  28. buzz says:

Ok so the Buddy ban is to stay. I’m going to leave him on the ground though and leave Ballantyne emergency because i wouldn’t like to rule out an 11th hour court injunction. That has been done before has it not?

  29. chris88 says:

Best of luck for the weekend Chris – will be barracking for your team to rack up the points.

  30. knighty says:

good luck Chris, and go the Bombers!

Strongly considering making Hodge captain to make sure Essendon win-but I really don’t want to let Sheedy beat me!

  31. walesy says:

You call that a lock? I *tipped* the Hawks in my work tipping comp, and am thinking about hooking them up in a multi! :O
