    Hi BrayDog,

Time for me to burn my last two trades. Here is the situation.

$188,800 in the bank with 2 trades left. The guys i want to trade out are in bold.

Backline- Mattner, Gram, McLeod, Ellis, Osbourne and DRUMMOND. (Proud, Pffifer emg’s).

Mids- Corey, Goodes, Scotty Thomspon, Stevens, S burgoyne, cotchin (MYERS, ward emg’s)

Basically i want to give Drummond the boot and keep cotchin as my safety net on the bench and upgrade myers.

    Options are:

    Drummond–> Pratt/Bock/Macdonald and

    Myers–> Kirk/Cooney/Power/Goodwin/Cross

All of these options i can afford

    Any thoughts????

  2. walesy says:

I’m just going to throw out half a suggestion there.

When Drummond was injured at the start of the year, Macdonald did a great job of filling his role.

However! He’s also coming up against the Swans in round 22… So there would be definite risk involved in picking him…

(Heh, look at that, I talked in a circle and ended up not helping at all…)

Brett Kirk has been a little out of form of late, but looks to have bounced back well from last week.

He has averaged 104 in his last 4 games against Collingwood, and then will be coming up against the Lions, who have a shocking habit of leaking points to opponents mid fields…

  3. Pat says:

Yeah its hard because all players have their pro’s and cons and scoring capabilities seem even in these groups but i keep looking at who the teams are playing as my main reason for selection.

So i would agree with you walesy that Captian kirk and macdonald would be the go

  4. Lucas says:

Pratt might get a bit of the ball this week – in the Kangas defence vs Geelong. Might get a few errant passes from Port midfield next week also.

Not friendless, a vastly under-rated North performer this year who has had his slump then came back hard.

Totally agree re Captain Kirk…that’s why I drafted him into my team :)
160+ the last time he played the Pies and that was in a losing side. He better get that form going this week (just not too good – Pies still to win)

I think people judge Kirk more highly than others.

I’ve done an analysis on players to aid with captain selection and give the following points system:
    -1 for games <50
    0 for 50-99
    1 for 100-124
    2 for 125-149
    3 for 150+.

Kirk has more 150+ than anyone in the comp bar Ablett (7) and Bartel (5) and equal with Franklin/Judd (4).

On the Captains scores here’s the ratings and this week opponents

    G Ablett 29 (NM)
    Bartel 25 (NM)
    Kirk 24 (COL)
    Riewoldt 23 (ADL)
    Franklin 22 (WC)
    Judd 22 (BR)
    Cox 20 (HAW)
    B Harvey 20 (GEE)
    Goodwin 20 (STK)
    Pavlich 19 (RIC)
    Power 19 (CAR)

    Happy skipper selectioning!

  5. Steve says:

Gablett will be my captain this week. North dont have anyone who can stop him.

  6. walesy says:

Yeah, I’m thinking the same thing… outside of Crowley, there doesn’t seem to be anyone who can stop him.

  7. Ben says:

For the ablett-less, whose prime candidate for captain? Brown against the Blues seems like the best choice, maybe Franklin against West Coast or even Bartel maybe? No bloody idea on this one.

  8. jake says:

    dear braydog,
i am in a bit of a pickle as i have lost my ruckman hille last week. i have in my mind 2 solutions

    1. trade jarrad morton for a rookie (eg dawes, any forward currently playing and then recruit dean cox to create the ultimate cox sandilands ruck duo. downside of this is i am left with no trades.
    OR
    2. straight swap hille for jolly. jolly is playing the pies so could possibly be up for a big game…also would leave me with a trade incase of injury.

i am personally leaning towards the cox option but i would be shattered if injuries happened and i had to play the grand final with shaun hampson or scott selwood or a zero..

    what do you think?

  9. BrayDog says:

    @ jake.
Any other ruckmen you can afford? Ottens, maybe? If not go Jolly.

I wouldn’t recommend using two trades to get up player at this stage of the season.

    @ pat.
Kirk is the shoe-in for the middle. And, I like Pratt in the back half even over Bock Choy. Haha.

  10. Pat says:

Yeah i am just a little worried about Pratt against the cats…Also bloody Chapman and Osbourne are on extended benches need them to play otherwise a new game plan will have to be formed pretty quickly.

  11. BrayDog says:

Should be more ball in the Kangaroos back half vs. Cats. And, North played extremly well agaisnt us last time, it won’t be a flogging.

  12. Steve says:

    Braydog,

I need your help. This is my situation. Currently I have one trade left for my prelim final.

    The options are as follows:

    1. I am one player short in the forward line as I have both Reimers, Porplyzia and Taylor Walker (crows rookie)not playing.

Do I use my last trade to swap someone for either Porplyzia and Reimers? Keeping in mind they both should play next week or take the zero and upgrade my backline.

I have Brett Jones sitting on the bench and I can afford any back if I trade him. I was thinking of picking Bowden (they are only playing Freo and Melb the next 2 weeks)

Do you think it is worthwhile copping the zero in the forward line and get a gun in the backline to cover the shortfall in points?

    My backline currently is:

Bock,Waite,McLeod,Newman,Fisher,Lower and S Selwood. EMG Jones, Proud

By upgrading Jones to Bowden, I could move Selwood to the bench. I am worried about Selwood getting a low score.

    Cheers

  13. BrayDog says:

Far out, thats a tough one.

How sure are you on Remiers and Porpz playing round 22? Cause I haven’t heard any news. So trading someone for them would be the safe bet, but doing the other trade could pay off big time.

Mate, I’m on the fence here. Flip a coin.

  14. BrayDog says:

    CHO FOR CAPTAIN THIS WEEK!

  15. Steve says:

Reimers should be back next week. This is his 3rd week out with his hamstring plus Essendon have not got any players left. Porplyzia just needs to get medical clearance to play.

I am thinking that I should just take the punt and upgrade to Bowden and hope he runs amok against the Shockers. Hopefully this will be enough to get my team over the line to the grand final next week.

  16. BrayDog says:

Yeah, well just pray one of them are back and hope Bowden goes nuts. Which no doubt he will.

  17. Lucas says:

The question is one of mathematics:

    Bowden + likely zero
    vs
    S Selwood + traded forward

Bowden you’d think would be good for 100-120. Doubtful mega score 150+ though capable of it for sure.
    Selwood 50.
Can the traded-in forward get 70+ assured?

If so make the trade. I see the forward trade having a bigger upside if you have the $. Particularly as it’s not certain that either Porps or Reimers will play this year (I would go conservative with both but you never know – Crows might have top 4 to play for)

The other thing is at this time of the year you need to take the points now – you might have the points next week in a GF you’re not a part of.

  18. Steve says:

This decision is doing my head in. Lucas has a very good point, that you need to get the points this week to make the GF. So I am thinking of bringing in Chappy for Porplyzia. Cant afford Roo or Pav. Any thoughts on this?

  19. Pat says:

Well chappy isnt confirmed yet…If anyone has inside information let me know as i am holding off my trades as a result..

  20. Lucas says:

Steer clear from Chappy as he is a huge risk to play.
    ROK?

  21. Steve says:

Chappy is in the 22. Varcoe, Prismal and Gamble are out.

  22. walesy says:

I just can’t bring myself to trust Chappy though! He’s been a late withdrawal twice this year… I sense Chappy -> Gamble shenanigans… (Though that might be the pints talking…)

  23. Lucas says:

Now that Josh Hill has scored over 100 I’m hoping Chappy doesn’t play now!!

If you do step into the team Chappy please get over 103. Please please please!

    Good start Stants and COOON

  24. Steve says:

Any word as to which Geelong players are in doubt for tomorrow? Better not be Ablett or Bartel.

  25. Lucas says:

Nah both those guys are playing; more’s the pity…

Gilbee/Pavlich will hurt a few teams.

Could see myself sneaking into the top 5 but I will call it now it will be a Woodyman premiership this year. Already miles ahead, copped probably no zeroes from the outs above, and has miles left in the tank.

    Congratulations Glen

  26. Pat says:

Loving the advice on Pratt, bloody pav and ellis could stuff my chances though…

    Glad chappy is back

  27. BrayDog says:

I think my chance of a top 10 finish are over, horrible weekend. =(

  28. Pat says:

Considering late withdrawls of pav and ellis and having franklin as captain still got 2318.. Not too bad but will be sweating on team selections next week

  29. Steve says:

2262 for me, won my prelim by 326. Team is going strong, no injuries or reports as far as I know. Bring on the Grand Final!
