Nab. Round 2.
Holla all.
Live scoring is updated to the next round of the NAB.
I’ve also put in a feature that will allow you to go to past or future rounds. Which will prolly go alright.
I am stoked to get another chance to see the Hawks, Coasters, Ports, Sydney, Kangers and Freo- In fact, I think 21 of my current list is playing, so that makes me smile.
Tonight we have the Hawkers lining up against the Doggies. Should be one *hell* of a match.
Can Buddy do what he did last week against *not* Richmond. And how’s the Hawks midfield going to hold up against some real quality opposition. (Sorry Richmond.
)
And a Bulldogs gameplan when *not* playing in a swamp- how will that work?
There’s a lot of potential premiums out there tonight, and I know I’ve got 5 of them playing. Let’s see how they are used.
Ah newsflash Chris88, Taylor is on the main list. You guys picked him up before the Magpies could nab him late. In the end he went 51 – your 4th pick, where the Pies had already committed 1-2-3 to Jolly-Ball.
Questions are:
- Can he make the top 22 for Richmond (not much doubt about this after watching last year)
- Can he stay out of jail (has charges for a NYE assault pending the weekend after the Richmond-Carlton match in Rd1)
He should get by with a behaviour sentence with the club and some community service, and if he’s in the top 22 at Richmond for R1, there’s no way they would be happy if he then gets put into the clink.
It’s a totally different situation to Lovett, but because it has to play itself out in the courts, he might be too much risk. But for the money and the payoff, I think a few will get on.
Yes, sorry about that Lucas – I was typing Taylor and thinking about Roberts after his game in Yea last weekend which, by all reports was a blinder.
Thing is with Roberts, Polak has already been elevated (or assured of an elevation) so he is battling with Gourdis for the other spot if we elevate 2. And my thoughts would be we need more of Gourdis’ type than Roberts, as guys like Nahas and Taylor can fill a similar role anready on the senior list.
If Gourdis comes up though, that’d be good as a possible D9 option – might only get you 40 or so a game, but will at least play you’d think.
Re Taylor – I think he is very much in calculations for an early season senior debut. Its plain Hardwick wants another X Factor in the forward line and at the moment he would probably be able to provide it.
And re the charges – that’s a key one. I’ve felt all along that there is more to this story than meets the eye or has been reported. But we’ll soon find out. If it means Troy ends up in the clink again, well, you do the crime, you do the time.
But one would hope that perhaps being part of a footy club and having some level of positive role models trying to help him – Newman, Hardwick, etc – that he might get a chance. A behaviour bond as you hint at Lucas.
Let’s face it, if Richmond can play a role in helping Ben Cousins rehabilitate, then we should have a shot with Troy Taylor.
I suppose the question is – can Roberts get elevated if Taylor’s in the clink? Would seem the logical replacement!
interesting nab selections this week….no Ladson (dropped? or rested?is he in the Hawks best 22?), and my new favourite F7 option WONEAMIRRIIII is in….
im sure there are other selections of interest as well (someone please tell me to stop considering GUMBY)
A lot of players a rested week 3 of the NAB. Particularly when they have played 2 already, and a going to play round 1.
Gumby is selected to play this week also
Yeah what Walesy said. And with the rookie elevation nomination deadline being tuesday next week (i think?), its the last opportunity to get a look at as many of the youngsters as possible, which is why senior guys are sometimes given the first two games and then rested for a week. For those two reasons, its also a good chance to bring in guys that may be a bit under the weather or returning from injury as the pace is taken off the game with alot of seniors missing (a good ‘ease back into it’ game so to speak)
No Lobbe either, however in this case we can safely assume he has lost his spot to Westoff.
Nigel Lappin says that Geelong will have a slow start and not be at their best early. It might be a good idea to only get a few locks and then ignore the rest of them. Hopefully it means a few will be good upgrade targets during the year.
Good to see a few rookie forward options poking their head out. Let’s hope enough can start round 1 to give us some sort of choice at the first lockout.
Now bring out the defenders!
Not happy about Ballantyne being rested. I would have liked to have seen how he scores when freo are playing against a quality side and are likely to struggle to find much of the ball. Same with barlow. No suprises with roo and goddard being rested.
@Yuley, yeah the fact trengove is getting another game and Lobbe is not seems to suggest they feel trengove is ahead of Lobbe and might be trying to slot him around the ground somewhere. Shame, as lobbe is the one with the forward MPP which could’ve come in handy for tipett.
A few MPP youngies taking the field of the crows this week which could be worth keeping an eye on to see who is likely to get a shot later in the year.
Melbourne and north appear to be fielding relatively strong sides for the challenge matches as you’d expect as many of the yougnsters are most likely in their respective sides best 22. Most others appear to be either looking at a vast array of rookies or are continuing the ‘play half the top 22, rest the other half and alternate the following week’ strategy.
Thoughts on Rich?
Still good value @ 455k?
I have a feeling he is keep getting better… the kid can play!
Also Armitage @ 413k?
I believe he is going to be getting a lot more time on ball this year?
Not sure if anyone can confirm, or even with that info being true, think he still is not worth it, and maybe better going a Kerr for the same value or say a Beams for 10k less, even S Burgoyne for 30k less?
I’m still unsure about Burgoyne… I know this is just opening up a can of worms, the Burgo debate! haha
Kerr injured and so is Burgs. Minor but still enough to avoid imo.
With ya on Beams. He was impressive with the half game I saw – 40ish pts. His price seems right, though with no real potential to go bang – this year anyway. Ditto Richy Rich.
When talking risks and value in the Burgoyne vein, I’m suprised there’s no talk of wells? High risk but if his body is right I think norths game style under Scott suits him. If you want to roll the dice u could reap some rewards. Hopefully he plays nab4
Just on Ballantyne, he’s currently out with a 1-2 week knee injury… So he’ll need to be monitored closely.
Ah okay Walesy, didn’t know that mate. Cheers.
Some suprised from nab practice matches. Hooker averaging over 100 and Harry ogandi 117. Only 2 games but must be considered at their prices
Doesn’t seem many options for DEF 8 & 9!
Unless I’m missing something?!
Anybody have Porplyzia in their side?
Maybe thinking of slotting him in at FWD 3…
I have Waters and Maquire at D8 & D9. Good safe options if the get selected from Rd 1. other potential defensive bench players are Sheppard(WC) Moore(PA) Davis (ADEL) and Silvagni(FRE – if promoted to senior list)
…and Porplyzia has had an interrupted pre-season due to injury. is said to be ready by Rd1 but he one to watch carefully. personally i believe there are better value options between $300-400K in the forward line, but if you still want to keep him have him at F4
I’m starting to think we may have to select D8 and/or D9 rookies that are not even playing round 1. This is looking more likely every day.
This will really sort out out the men from the boys – or could just be a lucky dip.
Mitch Farmer is another that can be thrown into the mix for D8 or 9 if worst comes to worst. And keep an eye on whether DAvid Gourdis is elevated at Richmond.
Chriss88 – I have penciled Gourdis in at F9 atm…
This is my team at present:
BACKS: Goddard, Gilbert, Gram, Waite, Hooker, Ladson, Schoenmakers (Maguire, Davis)
MIDS: GAJ, Selwood, Gibbs, Armitage, Scully, Trengrove (Shuey, Moles)
RUCKS: Jolly, Nic Nat (Spencer, Warnock)
FWDS: Roo, Pav, Harvey, Hall, Ziebell, Medhurst, Walker (Gourdis, Gumbleton)
I’m sure there will be some changes between now and Round 1… but what are peoples thoughts… strengths/weaknesses, concerns etc…
Farmer, Maguire, Waters, Talia, Davis – all at least some sort of options in D8 D9 surely.
Hey Hutchy, I reviewed the team on the other post. Sorry if I was a bit short, but time is money!
haha… no probs Lucas!
Hutchy,
You are better off ditching one of Trengove and Scully and put in Barlow – will free up some cash for other areas in your team. I would rather have Martin from Richmond in my team than Scully or Trengove.
Not sold on Walker, personally I think he is overrated. Does not do enough when the ball hits the ground.
Hooker is a risky selection – dont know if he is going to be regular in the Bombers 22?
Top 10 SC so far named in the Hun this morning. Interesting name to me was Mitch Robinson. Not mentioned anywhere but going OK?
To anybody considering starting with Hurley, I just heard he is suspended until round 4!!!
I didn’t think it was the top 10? Just a watchlist? But I only skimmed over it.
@ Benny – OK, Thanks, must admit I just skimmed it too waiting for a coffee.
Steve: Hooker will play 22 games if fit. He is definitely in the Bombers best 22. I’m not saying he is the best selection but he is guaranteed to play.

Didak or O’Keefe??
Flip a coin i rekon LJ!
Some thoughts on Hitchcock as F7?
I watched him last night… very impressive I thought…
I did have Taylor Walker in that posi… I rekon Hitchcock will give me the same avg score… PLUS I pocket 120k!
Hitchcock is a rookie so wait and see if he gets promoted. If he does he’ll be in my team without question.
I’d go with O’Keefe as Didak is a bit more up and down due to not handling a tag all that well.
But that’s just me, go with whoever your gut says.
If my memory serves me correctly (which is not very often!) ROK took a while to get going last year?
ROK did take a while but I think that coincided with added midfield responsibility. Thanks for feedback.
Hitchcock has not done a lot wrong at all. But does one sacrifice a MPP rookie to make way for the more likely rookie in Hitchcock??
