Ablett- Who’s scared?

I gotta put this up as a topic for discussion. Purely because it’s so damn important to so many side.

Ablett, last season’s Brownlow Medalist, is out of contract at the end of the season and is contemplating a massive offer from Gold Coast, which has already signed his brother Nathan, a former Geelong premiership player.

Thompson betrayed some frustration with the contract situation.

“I couldn’t care about Gary Ablett this week, apart from hoping he plays and plays well,” he said.

Personally, I’ve no doubt that he’ll be going. But with all the media attention, you gotta wonder about the effects that will have within the playing group.

Sure, they are all professionals, but they are people too. Surely I’m not the only one getting scared?

Also Kruezer at Full forward has to be worrying for those who have him as R2….

Does anyone know (roughly) how much Gazza’s 740k price would drop if he averaged only 100 in the 1st three rounds?

Craig, have a play around with the salary predictor under the stats tab. Click on the player, and then enter in the scores you think we will get. Important to remember though is how much he falls will also depend on his scores after those first few rounds. If he then continues to average 100, he will continue to plummet towards the price of a 100ppg player ~540k or so, whereas if he then hits his straps and pulls out a few good scores, the price fall will ease up depending on how big the score replacing the first 100 is.

I would never use cant or wont in the same sentence as Gary Ablett (SNR or JNR) The guys a freak!!! All the media around him wont affect him, the guys copped it since his junior days. When Tim Watson beat-up a story about him in the media one week, what did he do?? He smashed it!!! Look at the GF’s he’s played. Smashed all 3. Trust me, the guy thrives on pressure like no other. And im no cats supporter.

Yeah, I too was thinking of including a Mercedes Benz B Class AMG in my forward lineup, but then I remembered – I can only choose AFL football players in my Supercoach side. WTF. Seriously, is this a sponsor link or something?

  6. walesy says:

Definitely not a sponsored link. :)

    Damn spammers.

This issue’s a bit bigger than Timmy’s jibe last year. AFL has a culture of loyalty and if it gets out that GAJ has signed there will be backlash from the supporters, club and most importantly coach and players. Although the latter will be intangible and kept in-house to preserve perceived team coherancy, it is human nature given my initial presumption that a negative impact will occur. Best example is in NRL with their mid season trade window that allows other clubs to negotiate and recruit mid season for the next. Even though this code has nowhere near the loyalty values of AFL clubs, mid season announcements of (elite) player movements have generated significant unrest within the team and club even though the system is entrenched.
Pickering’s bitch at Bomber’s launch challenge to GAJ told the story for me. Basically the choice is simple -is the potential downside of a move to GC17 announced mid season going to be outweighed by any upside?

thanks spud, but i tried the calculators 4 10mins & was unable to get to a stage where i could enter data. Then i lost connection for several hrs, AAAARGH!!!(I’m lucky my monitor doesn’t have a fist hole in it, lol).

I’ll just stick with my gut feeling that Gazza aint up & running yet (a POD i hope wrks, but he is the son of GOD!!) Pretty sure Joel is though, so will toggle btwn him & rooey as my captain & try to budget 4 gazza & juddy snavels after rnd 3 & b4 rnd5.

Still curious how much he’ll cost though if he only scores 300 in the 1st 3 rnds, nudge, nudge, ;-) , ;-) .

  9. spud says:

    @Craig,
Not a prob, ill spit a few figures out for different scenarios, all based on first 3 matches being 100

100’s in first 3 rounds: End of round 3, will fall ~65k to ~680k. In rnd 4, he is calculated to have a breakeven of in excess of 200, so is likely to fall again.

If after his first 3 gameshe hits his 140 average from last year, he is calculated to drop a further ~30k at the end of round4 and another 5k at the end of round 5, bottoming at approximately ~640k, about 100k from his starting price.

If however, he hits another 100 in round4 (then hits his 140’s in rnd5+), he is estimated to bottom out around the ~610k mark at the conclusion of round 5

*ran into a tad of trouble with the salary predictor from this point on, but you get the rough idea of what happens to his price and how much it will take for him to fall etc.

The flip side is he scores 250 in round 1,2 and 3, (preferably not in round 2 tho!!) and appreciates to well beyond 800k :D Before following it up in round4 with a first-ever 300.

Ta spud, he’s out, go Selwood, fingers & toes crossed, lol

  11. Craig M says:

He’s a gun, I love him & his old man is, was, will 4ever be the best player I have ever seen (OK, equal with plugger). Just a gut feeling he aint up & running though, I’m probably wrong, but let the games begin.

  13. walesy says:

Ha, yeah- I got them :)

    (Or maybe you’re insinuating that Craig M is a spambot? :P )

  14. Simonoz says:

Never Craig M………..but maybe Spud :)

What’s all this Spam bashing?? It’s a fine product. OK, I admit, it can be frustrating when the key snaps off & you don’t have a can opener handy, but apart from that, there’s nothing wrong with the old canned spiced ham. (please start the footy, I need it, I’m losing my mind, AGAIN)
