Well here we are at the start of another round. Some teams looking for redemption after less than satisfactory performances, some looking to build on first up wins.

One thing for sure is that coaches should by now have entered their teams via the team page and be able to enter their teams here http://tooserious.net/ORFFA.php each week.

Some big matches coming up this week which we will explore over the break…….

Whitsundays vs. Marble Bar

Both teams with something to prove this week in the big clash on Hook Island. Whitsundays just horrible last week and will be looking to bounce back while the boys from Marble Bar were unlucky in an narrow loss to the Antarcticans.

The one thing for certain here is that there won’t be much left to drink at the Tiki Bar once the MIsfits are done with it.

Birdsville vs. Darraweit Guim

Just as sure as the Darraweit area holds some of the best Ordovician sedimentary sequences in Australia is the fact that the Guim are flying high after a huge win last week. A long trip via airship to Birdsville might affect the Dirigibles and we can rest assured that the Battlers will give as good as they get.

Gariwerd vs. Powlett Plains

After copping an old fashioned hiding last week the Cockies will be happy to get back on home ground. The Packers proved to be a formidable adversary last week, despite the fact that Cooney didn’t make it on the park. The Powlett Plains coach will be looking to keep a steady claw on the tiller as Gariwerd look to turn it around.

Namitjara vs. Far Kew

The Frogs supporters will want to make sure they bring their steering locks and car alarms for the big clash with the Nungas, otherwise a few Range Rovers or BMW’s might be up for sale real cheap down the local pub the next day. After big performances from Swan and Thompson last week, the loss of HMac and the return of NIc Nat for the home side might be the difference here.

Nunawading vs. Venus Bay

Nuffers smarting after defeat in the battle of the Easter Suburbs last week, whilst Venus Bay are celebrating after a big win in the Shaky Isles. The match up of Stanton vs. Watson should be a highlight of this game.

Waikikamoocow vs. Foul Bay

The Incorrigibles face a stern test this week after what can only be described as a less than satisfactory performance last week. The poultry farmers will be looking foul up the Kiwi’s hopes after a solid win last week.

Iron Knob vs. Gundagai

The protectors host Gundagai this week on a ground that is still considered by some to be not up to ORFFA standard. After copping a drubbing from the Chickens last week they will be lookin g to exploit their ‘rough ground’ advantage to the maximum. The hopppers want to keep their winning ways as they adapt to the h arsh conditions.

Mt. Beauty vs. Cradle Mountain

The boys from postcode 3699 host the other mountain men in what promises to be a fantastic midfield clash. Cotchin and Martin against Pendles and Thomas should make for a fantastic spectacle for the crowd, which is expected to reach the ground capacity at the Mount Beauty Recreation Reserve.

Charlie’s Opening vs. Mawson Base

Fresh from an on the road victory last week, the Penguins once again cross the Southern Ocean to face the Spelunkers. Words have been exchanged on both sides between the teams and umpires are expected to keep a tight rein over a match where tempers may get out of hand. Jimmy Bartel makes a welcome return for Mawson after a case of frostbite last week.

They say in the AFL that from round 7 onwards the Top 8 stays pretty much the same. If you’re in, you’re in, and if you’re out, you’re out. No idea if the same holds true for the ORFFL (we’re all pioneers here), but I dare say I hope not. How utterly depressing. With 4 teams just a game off 6th spot, there is certainly solid ground to suggest it will be otherwise. Regardless, round 8 will prove to be another season defining round for the ORFFL as we edge closer to the mid-season break. Join us over the break as we preview the matches of the weekend.

NOW WITH HAMEDAY UPDATES

;

GLENROWAN GUNSLINGERS (17th, avg. 1142) 906/11 vs TARWIN LOWER PIGS (14th, 1186) 685/7

What to say about these to teams in the lead-off match of round 8? Both have under-performed to agree, each sitting on just two wins from the opening 7 games. Glenrowan have been beaten with the big injury stick repeatedly this season losing Bock-Bock to a season ending leg-break, Mummy to an indefinite back “infection” and Xavier Ellis to God-Knows-What. All players that I imagine would have been B15 going into the season.

It’s something of a similar tale of woe at Tarwin Lower. Carrazzo and Embley out for extended periods with shoulder related injuries, and their depth tested with Patton and Buntine yet to debut for GWS. Could be a close, but ultimately I think the Pigs have the more consistent firepower despite Glenrowan’s nickname. Pendles is due for a big one.

;

MOUNT BUGGERY DISAPPOINTMENTS (15th, 1163) 1016/10 vs POOWONG POTOROOS (1st, 1264) 993/12

Bias is an interesting thing on the internet. For one, most folk barely know how to use the term correctly. I do though, and I’m going to show mine right here. Please Mount Buggery, defeat these men from Poowong this week. I wants my crown back. The Potoroos have been mighty so far in being undefeated after 7 rounds, and the Disappointments have been, well, yanno. Still, I hold out hope that the new PermanCaptain can defeat the old PermaCaptain, and the substitutions and injuries that have plagued Mount Buggery this year will abate, even if it just for this weekend. Please, make it happen. Best of luck to both teams anyway.

;

BONNIE DOON BANDITS (12th, 1134) 672/9 vs HUMPTY DOO HAMMERHEADS (18th, 1119) 596/6

Bonnie Doon surprised even themselves in victory last week, and with the confidence an unexpected win can bring, will look for a repeat result against Humpty Doo this weekend. Looking likely to field a full side once again, they will more than likely fancy their chances against a Hammerheads outfit that are S-T-Ruggling with an injury list as long as Robin Nahas’…record for inconsistent performances. The main thing here for Humpty Doo is that the Clancee Cup has largely been won, and they can afford to let their hair down and go full bore at this contest. Sadly, I don’t think it will make a difference.

PURNULULU BUNGLE RANGERS (16th, 1141) 877/12 vs TORRUMBARRY THUNDA (9th, 1202) 551/8

Here we find the surprise packet of the ORFFL in the PBR take on the renegade mob from Torrumbarry. I write surprise packet, because the youthful Rangers are just as capable of scoring large as they are adept at scoring on the low end of the scale. That’s youth for you. Torrumbarry, in somewhat ironic fashion, have been quietly building over the course of this season. Jack Steven (avg. 95) starting to hit the tons that complement his constant 80′s and 90′s. I’m tipping the Thunda to get up in this one, despite losing Shiel this week, in what is already a pretty depleted squad. Could be wrong though.

;

QUEENSTOWN QUOLLS (7th, 1187) 768/10 vs JIMCUMBILLY JACKRABBITS (10th, 1179) 704/11

Oooooh, a tasty match-up right here with only an average of 8 points separating the 7th placed Queenstown from the 10th placed Jimcumbilly. After losing the first 3 games of the season the Quolls have rallied strongly, largely recovering from their injury setbacks to go on a 4 game winning streak. Over at Jimcumbilly it’s been quite the opposite tale, injuries and poor form combining to see them slide down the ladder and mired now in the middle of the table. Each of these teams have plenty to play for; the Quolls to continue their ORFFL rise, the Jackrabbits to arrest their slide. Promises to be a heart-stopper. But I’ve been lied to before.

;

MILIKAPATI SNAKES (4th, 1276) 1195/12 vs POPANYINNING PYRITE (11th, 1177) 793/10

Last week saw Milikapati continue their charge up the ladder, moving into 4th spot, while Popanyinning also tasted victory, albeit against an undermanned Humpty Doo. The Pyrite will face a much sterner test this week against what I consider to be one of the fittest, and deepest teams in the ORFFL. Speaking of which, the Snakes see Hurley return from the injury list, leaving them with only Nathan Vardy suffering serious time int the casualty ward (correct me if I’m wrong here Liam Johnson?). Popanyinning will need Swallow to go large here to come away with the win, something he’s yet to really do so far this year. I think he’s due, but even so, will it be enough? Tune in Sunday night to find out.

;

SARAH ISLAND SAVAGES (2nd, 1415) 812/9 vs MALLACOOTA MAGICIANS (5th, 1269) 886/12

Everyone’s second favourite team, Mallacoota, goes down to face the team that everyone loves to hate, Sarah Island, in a clash of two of the ORFFL’s top sides. Both teams suffered losses last weekend that dinted their flag aspirations, and likewise, both teams have an opportunity to redeem themselves this weekend. Yet there can be only one. The Magicians see stars Fyfe and BigBoy miss for the 3rd week in a row, while the Savages will have to cope with the loss of Bundy – rested because I couldn’t bear to witness Johnny tear up if Bundy notched a ton against him. Fair to say I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while. Hope you have too, Mr. Kash.

;

COULTA COULDABEENS (8th, 1207) 841/10 vs WOY WOY WIZARDS (13th, 1235) 871/11

A classic encounter out in the middle of nowhere, which in fantasy, is what the ORFFL is all about. Woy Woy lead Coulta on points scored and yet its Coulta who sit higher on the ladder with more wins. The Couldabeens will be without franchise player Matt Priddis going into this match, while Woy Woy see the continued absence of Luke Hodge balance this ledger. A hard one to preemptively judge given both teams rely on an even spread of players to get the scoring job done. Even harder when many of these players are capable of scoring high and low on a week to week basis. I’m just going to hope for a close one, and for ORFFL to be the winner.

;

WARBURTON WANDERERS (3rd, 1260) 704/9 vs MERTON MEERKATS (6th, 1210) 967/11

Fresh from conquering Sarah Island, 3rd placed Warburton host 6th placed Merton in a match that shapes up to be a classic. With no disrespect intended, I would wager that not too many ORFFL pundits expected the Meerkats to be travelling as well as they have been this year. And yet it’s hard to argue with the scoreboard that reads 4 wins and 3 losses. If Richmond can upset the Bombers on Saturday night logic suggests that Merton will do the same to the fancied Warburton by Sunday night. The Wanderers need to consolidate on their victory last week, if results fall their way it’s them who could be wearing the crown by Sunday. Nervous times.

The ORFFA played its inaugural round last week with some big crowds turning out to cheer on their boys. Results and ladder after rnd 1 beyond the break……..

Far Kew 1302 defeated Nunawading 1215

Far Kew’s midfield smashing out some big scores in this one. Nuna’s cause not helped by a couple of Colling wood spuds.

Cradle Mountain 1215 lost to Charlie’s Opening 1225

A tight match played at high altitude. The use of high energy drinks during the match has not gone unnoticed by ORFFA management.

Darraweit Guim 1506 defeated Gariwerd 1094

The Guim serve up a football lesson to a Gariwerd side cruelled by the loss of Priddis to the red vest. Big Ivan already being called ‘the mayor of Darraweit’ according to reports from the town.

Gundagai 1234 defeated Mt. Beauty 1213

Tight game here but the presence of a certain A. Sandilands ensured that the Grasshoppers were jumping for joy this week.

Powlett Plains 1239 defeated Namitjara 1135

Both sides with injury concerns in this game, with the home team getting the choccies in the end.

Foul Bay 1298 defeated Iron Knob 1148

The ‘chicken lovers’ powering away in this game. The ‘Coup’ style of fantasy play now being talked about in the way the ‘Jar’ has been since it revolutionised ORRFL.

Whitsunday 1046 lost to Birdsville 1169

The Warriors training methods surely must be called into question after a ‘marshmallow’ loss to the Battlers. Less cocktails and more gym work might be the prescription here.

Waikikamoocow 1046 lost to Venus Bay 1314

Huge win for the young coach of the Vultures whilst the Kiwi boys only face more pain in the form of Foul Bay this week. On a brighter note, ORFFA management understands that Sam Mitchell’s roll casting has improved enormously.

Marble Bar 1210 lost to Mawson Base 1230

The Penguins got up in a close encounter in extreme conditions. An interesting moment in the game was when the entire Marble Bar team and coaching staff started shotgunning cans at half time, which may have proved decisive in the finish.

Round 7 recap: Well Ablett responded to the “will he, won’t he??” and returned with a solid but slightly disappointing (by Ablett standards) 125 SC points from 33 disposals. Despite all the talk about him playing in the forward line, he only managed one behind. I was a lot more happy with my smoky pick of Franklin who continued his fine form against Melbourne with a great 140 (which would have been much higher had he kicked better than 3 goals and 7 behinds).

Round 7 regrets: Whilst Swan did well with 141, Pendlebury disappointed with only 107. Cox had an underwhelming average against Essendon (91), whilst Watson and Stanton did not fare much better against the Eagles with 100 and 73 respectively. All three, however, smashed it over the weekend: Cox with 141, Watson with 149 and Stanton with 164.

The question this week seems to be whether Ablett has reclaimed his perma-captain title – or is he playing on one leg hence his relatively low 125 last round?

Goddard v. West Coast

Rd 17 2011: 106 SC points, 30 disposals
Rd 9 2010: 157 SC points, 30 disposals
Rd 15 2009: 112 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 3 2009: 175 SC points, 28 disposals
Rd 17 2008: 103 SC points, 26 disposals

Average is 137 SC points with 27 disposals.

Note: Fantastic record against West Coast. Most recently played head to head against Shuey (2011) but was tagged by Adam Selwood in the 2010 game. Seems to be slowly finding form with recent scores of 113, 120, 58 and 93.

Ablett v. Western Bulldogs

Rd 14 2011: 121 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 3 2011: 141 SC points, 34 disposals
Rd 20 2010: 154 SC points, 39 disposals
QF 2009: 131 SC points, 31 disposals
Rd 21 2009: 122 SC points, 40 disposals
Rd 9 2009: 149 SC points, 38 disposals
PF 2008: 116 SC points, 29 disposals
Rd 16 2007: 127 SC points, 35 disposals
Rd 1 2007: 97 SC points, 24 disposals

Average is 129 SC points with 33 disposals.

Note: Fantastic record against the Bulldogs. Only one score below 100 back in 2007. Since 2009 has been tagged by Picken in all games except for Rd 20 2010 (154 SC points playing against Boyd) and Rd 9 2009 (149 SC points playing against a combination of Griffen and Boyd). Will likely cop the Picken tag but should still score big.

Mitchell v. Fremantle

Rd 19 2011: 117 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 11 2011: 123 SC points, 31 disposals
EF 2010: 103 SC points, 34 disposals
Rd 21 2010: 98 SC points, 35 disposals
Rd 8 2009: 124 SC points, 34 disposals
Rd 2 2008: 103 SC points, 27 disposals
Rd 7 2007: 151 SC points, 31 disposals

Average is 117 SC points with 32 disposals.

Note: Most recently tagged by Crowley. Solid record against Fremantle but only one big score over 125 which was 151 back in 2007. Not the best recent record with scores of 101, 117 and 55.

Pendlebury v. Geelong

GF 2011: 143 SC points, 33 disposals
Rd 24 2011: 135 SC points, 30 disposals
Rd 8 2011: 109 SC points, 20 disposals
PF 2010: 126 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 19 2010: 110 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 9 2010: 96 SC points, 18 disposals
Rd 3 2009: 95 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 9 2008: 141 SC points, 26 disposals
PF 2007: 55 SC points, 13 disposals
Rd 15 2007: 90 SC points, 20 disposals

Average is 110 SC points with 23 disposals.

Note: Solid record in 2011 and 2010. Only one big score prior to that back in 2008. Recently played head to head against Kelly and Corey (Grand Final last year) or head to head against Selwood (Rd 24 last year). Poor game last week with only 107 which had followed great scores of 145, 140 and 134).

Cox v. St Kilda

Rd 17 2011: 137 SC points, 22 disposals, 36 hitouts
Rd 9 2010: 107 SC points, 21 disposals, 34 hitouts
Rd 15 2009: 62 SC points, 11 disposals, 14 hitouts
Rd 3 2009: 112 SC points, 24 disposals, 27 hitouts
Rd 17 2008: 85 SC points, 18 disposals, 27 hitouts
Rd 21 2007: 112 SC points, 23 disposals, 33 hitouts
Rd 12 2007: 125 SC points, 22 disposals, 25 hitouts

Average is 106 SC points with 20 disposals and 28 hitouts.

Note: Solid average against St Kilda. Poor score in Rd 15 2009 when he was well beaten by Michael Gardiner and then rested in the fourth quarter. His other sub-100 score was in 2008 when he started cramping up in second half. Has had two huge weeks in Naitanui’s absence with back to back scores of 141.

Selwood v. Collingwood

GF 2011: 145 SC points, 28 disposals
Rd 24 2011: 121 SC points, 21 disposals
Rd 8 2011: 153 SC points, 29 disposals
PF 2010: 83 SC points, 21 disposals
Rd 19 2010: 94 SC points, 23 disposals
Rd 9 2010: 83 SC points, 27 disposals
PF 2009: 108 SC points, 29 disposals
Rd 3 2009: 101 SC points, 26 disposals
Rd 9 2008: 68 SC points, 17 disposals
PF 2007: 46 SC points, 15 disposals
Rd 15 2007: 115 SC points, 23 disposals

Average is 102 SC points with 24 disposals.

Note: A great recent record against Collingwood, averaging 140 in his past three games. Prior to that game, however, he had 5 games under 100 (in 8 games). Most recently played head to head against Ball and prior to that game head to head against Pendlebury. Solid form recently with scores of 144, 140, 114 and 114.

Judd v. Adelaide

Rd 5 2011: 110 SC points, 32 disposals
Rd 4 2010: 148 SC points, 30 disposals
Rd 22 2009: 77 SC points, 23 disposals
Rd 9 2009: 66 SC points, 19 disposals
Rd 18 2008: 84 SC points, 15 disposals
Rd 6 2008: 71 SC points, 15 disposals
Rd 17 2006: 129 SC points, 21 disposals
Rd 2 2006: 134 SC points, 23 disposals

Average is 101 SC points with 21 disposals.

Note: Poor record against Adelaide with only four scores over 100 in eight games. Has always been tagged by the Crows (most recently by Douglas but also by Reilly, Doughty or Shirley). Had a great game last week with 144 after being rested the week before. Prior to his rest, however, he had only managed scores of 87 and 91.

Swan v. Geelong

GF 2011: 71 SC points, 20 disposals
Rd 24 2011: 89 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 8 2011: 98 SC points, 30 disposals
PF 2010: 159 SC points, 33 disposals
Rd 19 2010: 131 SC points, 32 disposals
Rd 9 2010: 106 SC points, 25 disposals
PF 2009: 79 SC points, 17 disposals
Rd 3 2009: 116 SC points, 30 disposals
Rd 9 2008: 109 SC points, 29 disposals
PF 2007: 80 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 15 2007: 67 SC points, 16 disposals

Average is 100 SC points with 26 disposals.

Note: Terrible record in his past three games against Geelong averaging only 86 whilst being tagged by Ling. Will obviously be free of the Ling tag this year. Coming off a huge 141 last week.

Stanton v. Richmond

Rd 16 2011: 121 SC points, 27 disposals
Rd 9 2011: 66 SC points, 16 disposals
Rd 9 2010: 62 SC points, 16 disposals
Rd 17 2009: 105 SC points, 17 disposals
Rd 9 2009: 59 SC points, 20 disposals
Rd 16 2008: 162 SC points, 27 disposals
Rd 9 2008: 92 SC points, 15 disposals
Rd 21 2007: 91 SC points, 21 disposals
Rd 9 2007: 139 SC points, 26 disposals

Average is 100 SC points with 21 disposals.

Note: Typical Stanton numbers. Some big games amongst many shockers with three games under 70. Tagged by Jackson in both games last year (when Watson wasn’t playing). Previously been tagged by Shane Edwards or Matt White. Coming off huge scores of 164 and 154.

Watson v. Richmond

Rd 9 2010: 124 SC points, 28 disposals
Rd 17 2009: 66 SC points, 22 disposals
Rd 9 2009: 130 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 16 2008: 103 SC points, 25 disposals
Rd 9 2008: 80 SC points, 20 disposals
Rd 9 2007: 94 SC points, 21 disposals

Average is 100 SC points with 23 disposals.

Note: Three scores over 100 and three scores under. Solid numbers in the past couple of years. Poor 66 in 2009 when he was tagged by Jackson. Coming off scores of 149 and 134.

Murphy v. Adelaide

Rd 5 2011: 137 SC points, 34 disposals
Rd 4 2010: 115 SC points, 32 disposals
Rd 22 2009: 76 SC points, 20 disposals
Rd 9 2009: 109 SC points, 23 disposals
Rd 18 2008: 69 SC points, 26 disposals
Rd 6 2008: 93 SC points, 24 disposals
Rd 9 2007: 81 SC points, 17 disposals

Average is 97 SC points with 25 disposals.

Note: Not a great record against Adelaide with only one big score which was last year. Has only scored over 100 three times in seven games. Has had two very poor back to back games this season with 89 against the Giants followed by 73 against the Saints last week.

Franklin v. Fremantle

Rd 19 2011: 63 SC points, 19 disposals
Rd 21 2010: 129 SC points, 17 disposals
Rd 8 2009: 109 SC points, 11 disposals
Rd 2 2008: 74 SC points, 13 disposals
Rd 7 2007: 69 SC points, 14 disposals
Rd 18 2006: 54 SC points, 9 disposals
Rd 9 2005: 49 SC points, 11 disposals

Average is 78 SC points with 13 disposals.

Note: Terrible record against Fremantle. Normally manned up by McPharlin or Tarrant. He is coming off scores of 140 and 131 in his two most recent games.

My opinion: Well Ablett is back in the team and showed his fitness with a 33 disposal effort at 64% efficiency against the Giants. His knee has probably had another week of rest and he has shown in the past that he has the ability to score big despite the Picken tag. I am going to lock him in as captain this week.

Following Ablett, the choice becomes very difficult. Good options would probably be Cox, Stanton, Watson or Pendlebury. Based on recent form and historical numbers, I would pick Cox. Following Cox, I am finding it hard to ignore Stanton’s recent form. Next in line is perma-captain in waiting Pendlebury.

My smoky pick this week is Ryan Griffen who is leading the SC average at the Western Bulldogs. I am expecting him to have a huge game against Gold Coast. He is coming off scores of 123, 152 and 155 (with disposals of 31, 33 and 37 respectively).

Good luck to all!!

Welcome once again to the Best Buys

This week sees a fair few rookie options on the bubble, and for those who resisted the double-downgrade last week, some decent opportunites to get in some fresh meat. Defense in particular has a few guys worth looking at, which with some of the defensive cash-cows already getting close to their peak it is perfectly timed. For those that did opt for the double-downgrade this week sees the ideal time to bring a couple of heavy-hitters to replenish the premium stocks and hopefully get that nice points boost that we’re all looking for.

My tip for the week is Stevie J, who is looking to have regained some form and fitness and is currently bargain priced. The Cats run from here does still have some pretty challenging sections but they usually have an easy game or two in between the tougher ones. With Tomahawk drawing more attention up froward Stevie J should get loose a bit more and also spend more time through the midfield. He is definitely a gamble, but one that on prior form has paid off many times over the years.

I know the “I was a bit rushed this week” line must be getting a bit old now but hopefully this week I have at least a reasonably good excuse, so as always feel free to let me know of any mistakes I have made or issues I have missed. It’s always great to hear your thoughts.

So grab a coffee (or lunch now as the case may be) and join me over the break for the full Best Buys and some comments and thumbs action.

The Best Buys uses a mix of price, form, break-evens and projected salaries to assess the Best Buys of each round. These are essentially the players that represent the best “value” which is determined by the above factors. Some player will not be mentioned on here even if they are playing well, as value is the key for this article. If a player is averaging 110, which is certainly solid, but priced at an average of 112 then they will not be rated. This does not mean these players should be avoided or not picked due to this, but simply that they aren’t as good “value” as the others in the Best Buys. For all the player I’ve missed, and any more you’re wanting opinions on, the thumbs are always there.

The thumbs act as a polling tool for the TS community, if you pose a question with either a yes-no answer or a “thumbs-up X, thumbs down Y” in there then the community as a whole can give you some great feedback into your choices and what they think about it, while also catering to the lazy amongst them that can’t be bothered actually typing out a response.

The “Waiting List” section at the end of the article shows players who are looking like being great buys but for whatever reason will be better looked at in the coming weeks rather than this one. In the case of the first few names on the list this is because they have only played one game (indicated by the * next to their single game score) and you will have one more week to assess them, having only played one match they do not have a salary prediction either, for the others on the list it is usually because they will be decreasing in value this round based on current predictions and could be picked up cheaper the next week. Some players on the Waiting List will not make the next Best Buys, due to only a small decrease in price etc, and so it is something you should keep an eye on regularly. The Waiting List also includes a projected salary drop over the next round for each player.

DEFENSE
ROOKIES
Cam Delaney (NM) DEF 113.3k
Young Cam has looked pretty good so far in his 2 games for North, averaging 68 ppg (points per game) and he should see a decent price rise after his next outing with a break-even of -67. Not guaranteed game time but probably as safe as most other rookies on the bubble.

Jacob Brennan (WCE) DEF 113.2k
Brennan is still a bit of an unknown quantity, averaging a respectable 67 ppg so far. Mistakenly entered as a GWS rookie he has now been restored to his rightful place in the WCE back-line. Strong interest in him pre-season and as he has only knocked up the 2 games so far and should see a good price rise after his next one.

Lee Spurr (FRE) DEF 116.7k
Spurr has been on a few radars since the pre-season, and now that he looks to be getting some game-time he could well be a decent cash-cow option. Playing for Lyin will mean he still has some uncertainty around him but with a break-even of -49 and an average of 60 he should go up around 50 grand after his next game.

Beau Wilkes (StK) DEF 106.6k
Beau has looked pretty solid for the Sainters, averaging 44 over his first 2 games, and should see a reasonable price rise. JS could be an issue however after the Saints performance against the Blues, with a few of the young rookies putting in blinders. I haven’t heard a great deal about this kid but he seems to go alright so far.

MID-PRICERS
Alex Rance (RIC) DEF 474.9k
Rance just keeps on keeping on, averaging 102 over the year and consistently showing up in the Best Buys as great value for money. Many still won’t give him a look due to the byes but he’ll be a great POD and even a possible upgrade post round 13. Still rising in price but one could expect him to remain within 50k of current price for the rest of the season.

PREMIUMS
Brendon Goddard (StK) D/M 504.9k
Goddard appears to have now bottomed out, coming in at just over 500 grand. Averaging 107 for the year to date and consistently one of the best defenders in SC over a few years, he has to be considered and should end up in all teams. He has been tagged pretty hard in recent games and while this could be a worrying trend he still managed a good output against the Blues.

Heath Shaw (COL) DEF 530.2k
Heater is bouncing back from a slow start to the year, and has managed to bump up his average to over 100 (105). His price is now on the rise and he should see an increase of around 15 grand this week, which whilst not a deal-breaker every bit counts in this game. As long as he can avoid stupid bets, or stupidity in general, he should be a solid defender and crack the top echelon.

Heath Scotland (CAR) D/M 528k
Scotland is in a pretty similar situation to Shaw currently, a slow start to the season which is now starting to build. Averaging only 101 with a break-even of 133 he should lose some value this week but not so much as to make it worthwhile holding off on the upgrade. Should remain a top defender this season and Carlton will need to improve from here to remain competitive.

MIDFIELD
ROOKIES
Liam Sumner (GWS) MID 151.6k
Sumner is another GWS rookie starting to break into the squad, and after averaging 58 in his first 2 games has done a decent job of it. Interestingly Sheeds’ resting policy has probably been the saviour of a lot of GNR focussed squads and hopefully he will continue to fatten up the cows at a decent rate for us. Priced a little higher than other rookies Sumner may be left out by a lot of coaches, as most midfields are starting to look to completion rather than cash generation, but could be a valuable POD during byes.

MID-PRICERS
Callan Ward (GWS) MID 499.5k
Ward has been good for the Giants early, averaging 107 in a team that has consistently been smashed (apart from against GCS anyway). The young Giants are developing well and a key to this has been their hard at the ball attitude and tackling pressure, with Ward helping to lead the way. With Sheeds trying to keep his young charges fit and firing it is safe to expect that Ward will continue to play most games and lead from the front. At just under 500 grand he is still underpriced but many will avoid him over doubts around his ability to maintain a high output. One to watch.

PREMIUMS
Brent Stanton (ESS) MID 605.9k
Stanton has clearly turned a corner. Averaging a massive 137 so far this year and scoring an all-time DT high score, he is quickly becoming a must have. Thanks to his bye situation this year he can safely be seen as a POD, and so far with his averages he has been a perfect one for those that have him. A break-even of just 53 means he will continue his sharp price rise and on his average next week will likely be around $640 grand. If you can fit him into your structure then now is a great time for it.

Jobe Watson (ESS) MID 588.1k
Jobe has had a stand-out year this year, and after being early Brownlow favourite last season before going down to injury it’s easy to see why. Averaging a very healthy 124 so far, and still priced under 600 grand, he is the reason a lot of people have ignored Stanton so far. His bye again is an issue but his quality is not. One of Jobe or Stanton is surely getting close to a lock now for all.

Scott Selwood (WCE) MID 550.3k
Scooter has kept on with his great early form, averaging 117 ppg and still sitting at around 550 grand. As injuries continue to decimate the Eagles the remaining players they have standing will surely have to take up the slack for some of the new kids. With less tagging options around Scooter may well see himself back to predominantly tagging roles, but his talent should still see him keep a healthy average. Great POD option, and useful bye.

RUCK
ROOKIES
Exactly the same as last week.
Big O 106.6k / Redden 171.3k / Longer 161.6k
The 3 rookie rucks on the bubble can all safely be grouped together I feel, as each have dodgy job security but are looking like the best downgrades. Redden has played three but is still cheap enough to consider, but all 3 are quite risky and should only be viewed as a potential back-up for byes.

MID-PRICERS
Ivan Maric (RIC) RUC 485.1k
The mullet has continued to impress this season, averaging 102 and for a mid-priced punt has done very well. Clearly the number 1 ruck over Graham now he has a break-even of just 49 and should continue to rise in value. The Tigers early draw has been tough for them but they have an easier run from here out. Definitely worth a look and only 80-odd grand more than Giles.

PREMIUMS
Paddy Ryder (ESS) RUC 511.4k
Ryder is in great form this season, with the Bombers improvements certainly not hurting, and has so far averaged a very tidy 114. Second only in the rucks to Sandi so far, and getting more games than he is, Ryder has been an inspired pick and can hopefully maintain this form. A break-out star on the rise Ryder should definitely be considered by anyone still with a ruck upgrade to make.

Nic Naitanui (WCE) RUC 519.6k
NicNats recent injury and subsequent missed games have seen Cox flourish as R1 once again for the Eagles, but his return should see him eat into that particular pie once more. Woosha has so far appeared to want to slowly transfer the rucking duties to NicNat and ease Coxy into the forward line more, so if this continues then he should remain a top ruckman this year.

FORWARD
ROOKIES
Ahmed Saad (StK) FOR 124.7k
Saad was impressive in his most recent outing against Carlton, slotting a few nice goals and showing off his pace. Saad would be unlucky to be dropped this week after that performance, and win, and should have decent JS for the short term at least. An average of 55 means he will have a decent value increase after his next match and could be a good downgrade option.

Tory Dickson (WBD) FOR 157.7k
Dickson is now starting to make amends with his coaches for missing out the start of the year after impressing in the NAB, but unfortunately for a lot a bit too late. Many coaches have already traded him out, and his limited JS may mean he won’t be traded back in by many. If no other options appeal then he could be a decent option but coaches should be wary of his game-time so far.

MID-PRICERS
Stuart Crameri (ESS) FOR 474.4k
Crameri has been up and down so far, and failed to really live up to his hype pre-season. After a couple of good games he is averaging 101 ppg so far and should see a price rise of around 10 grand this week. One to keep an eye on, along with Zaha, but the bye situation again will come into play here with Sidey, Beams etc also demanding a look in the forward line. Slightly ahead of Zaha for mine, but that could easily change over the next week or two.

Stevie Johnson (GEE) FOR 471.7k
Stevie J looks to have bottomed out, and has also started to improve. Averaging over 100 in his last two games, including a reasonable loss to the Crows, his 2011 Grand Final injury woes seem to be healing up well. Has been seen as a “downhill skier” by a few for a while now but looks to be improving his form nicely now. Obviously still some associated risks.

PREMIUMS
Lance Franklin (HAW) FOR 534.1k
Buddy is still one of the top forwards in SC, even after a 3.7 output on Friday against the Dees. He is averaging 112 so far and if he can work on improving his kicking a bit more then he should be a real force to be reckoned with. Almost all teams will have him so if he continues on his current form he will hurt those without. At only 534 grand he is a bargain for a player of his talents.

Steele Sidebottom (COL) M/F 548k
Sidey continues on the up, amassing a very nice 150+ over the weekend, and will be a favoured upgrade target from the last week and for this one. Daisys return could see his numbers affected but most pundits are tipping this to affect Beams more than Sidey. Beams is still a viable alternative but again Sidey edges him out for mine.

Patrick Dangerfield (ADE) M/F 528.8k
Dangermouse appears to not be letting the speculation over his contract and the hype around being generated by it affect his game so far to date, and is still averaging a healthy 105. His break-even is 104 this week so this should see him remain at about his current value for another week, and some will choose to hold off to see how he performs against the Blues this weekend and a possible hard tag. His contested play style means he should still get decent numbers in wins or losses, but his efficiency may be an issue.

Jordan Lewis (HAW) M/F 512k
Lewis is impressing many this season, with good averages and a hard-at-it style of play through the guts, and is closing in on a top forward spot for the season. Averaging 104 and with a break-even of 103 he shouldn’t see much of a change this week but with the Hawks playing Freo down in Tassie I can’t see why those interested in him would wait. Essentially a mid also classed as a forward he should remain good value all year.

Jarryd Roughead (HAW) R/F 515.3k
Roughy is still travelling along pretty well after his Achilles injury last season, and so far seems to have gotten over it admirably. Spending a decent amount of time in the ruck he has looked comfortable with the rigours of rucking and his leg seems fine so far. Added benefit of being R/F eligible means he could offer some much needed support over the byes, as long as another swing-man is used to facilitate the swap. Probably won’t be a top ruck this season but has a decent shot at being a top forward. Consider your bye strategy, and then look strongly at Roughie.

WAITING LIST

Dayne Zorko (BRI) M/F 113.2k 16*
Josh Jenkins (ADE) RUC 113.2k 80*
Gary Ablett Jnr (GCS) MID 721.9k -16k
Luke Hodge (HAW) MID 577.2k -58k
Matt Priddis (WCE) MID 503.5k -45k
Tom Rockliff (BRI) MID 580.6k -37k
Marc Murphy (CAR) MID 570.5k -32k
Todd Goldstein (NM) RUC 443.6k -29k
Michael Barlow (FRE) MID 455.1k -15k
Ryan O’Keefe (SYD) M/F 446.1k -14k
Nick Dal Santo (StK) MID 505.6k -26k

Alright I think that’s probably enough from me for this week, so good luck to all in the following round and I’ll see you in the comments.

Our trades last week were Magner (84 points and $23k increase) and C. Smith (10 points and a $12k decrease) out, with Adams (80 points and $73k increase) and Horsley (80 points and an $82k increase) coming in, so its safe to say we can count that as a win!

As for our team breakdown in round 7, it looked something like this:

1. Deledio	DEF	100
2. Goddard	DEF	113
3. Broughton	DEF	107
4. Clarke	DEF	90
5. Bugg	DEF	68
6. Shaw	DEF	142
7. Lake	DEF	108
8. Kennedy	MID	101
9. Pendlebury Captain 107 x 2 MID	214
10. Selwood Vice Captain	MID	114
11. Ablett	MID	125
12. Shiel	MID	62
13. Horsley	MID	80
14. Cox	RUC	141
15. Giles	RUC	134
16. Franklin	FWD	140
17. Dangerfield	FWD	98
18. Roughead	FWD	91
19. Martin	FWD	88
20. Milera	FWD	81
21. Porplyzia	FWD	70
22. Adams	FWD	80

1. Morris Emergency	DEF	73
2. Ellis	DEF	2
3. Smith Emergency	MID	77
4. McDonald	MID	0
5. Redden	RUC	0
6. Pattison	RUC	0
7. Kennedy Emergency	FWD	75
8. Treloar	FWD	96

Once again our defence had a really good showing, with Deledio (100), Goddard (113), Broughton (107), Shaw (top scoring with 142), and Lake (108) all breaking the ton. The rookies of Clarke and Bugg scored 90 and 68 respectively. Our bench was made up of emergency Morris’ 73 and sub-effected Ellis’ lowly 2. We only lost a potential 5 points due to bench selections, which you definitely can’t sneeze at.

Onto the mids, where captain Pendlebury’s 107 was a real disappointment. The rest of our mid premiums topped the ton, with Kennedy on 101, Selwood on 114, and Ablett on 125. The rookies of Shiel and Horsley brought in 62 and 80 respectively, while our bench had emergency Smith’s 77 and old McDonald’s donut. Swapping Shiel with Smith would have made us an extra 15 points, while picking nearly any other premium in our side would have bettered our captain score!

The rucks were finally a point of sheer joy (on the field atleast), with big Cox getting a big 141, and big Giles getting a big 134. On the pine were the two ready-to-be-scrambled eggs of Redden and Pattison.

The forwards are finally starting to pull their weight on a more regular basis, lead by Buddy Franklin and his 140 points. He was our only ton, however most of the rest of the scores were quite acceptable, with Dangerfield’s 98 just shy of triple figures, Roughead’s 91, Martin’s 88, Milera’s 81, Adams’ 80, and Porplyzia’s 70 rounding out our team. The bench was made up of emergency Kennedy’s 75, and Treloar’s 96, which would have been much better on the park. Here we missed out on a potential 26 points for the week.

So, aside from the captain selection, we missed out on a potential 46 points. Picking Shaw as the captain would have added an extra 35 points, while the more-likely selection of an Ablett would have made us an extra 18 points for the week.

On the cash cow side of things, and our defenders seem to be nearing the end of the mooing, with $11-22k being made, although Ellis managed to lose $16k. The mids saw a great increase in new-recruit Horsley, with an $80k rise, while D. Smith keeps showing some promise and $24k more cash. The rucks sees the superstar Giles now being worth more than $400k, following another $34k rise in price thanks to the 134 points, which should also see him keep climbing over the next two weeks. We look forward to it, before a likely cull prior to round 11 and his bye. In the forwards, new recruit Adams jumped up $73k, while Treloar rose an extra $51k this week.

Onto the down side, and Goodard continues his slow decrease, now being a very affordable $505k. Our mids are all doing well, with only duckwood loosing cash this week, but still being up $20k for the season its not a huge concern (in terms of competitors picking him up cheaply). Big Cox is beginning to climb back up, and his big 141 should keep him going for the next two weeks. The forwards saw Roughie lose an even $5k, but everyone else is back in the green, even the hugely-disappointing Dustin Martin.

So, onto this week, and head over to the donors forum to get in on the discussions of who to trade, and how to keep our team climbing up the ladder.

COULTA COULDABEENS 1243 Def TARWIN LOWER PIGS 1132

There was something of a snafu with the team lists, but nothing snafuish about the Couldabeens performance; Coulta defeating Tarwin Lower by an awesome 111 points (I like palindromic numbers). Zaharakis (130) and Reilly (120) played well in demolitions, and the Port Adelaide midfield duo of Ebert (109) and McCarthy (105) lifted for their fantasy coach when their teammates could not. The win also sees them move into 8th spot.

The loss sees Tarwin Lower drop to 14th, and a series of questions asked of the players. Do they score enough? How is HMac’s knee? What kind of a name is Jarryn? The answer to the first is pretty clear with Pendles (107) below par, and only Giles (134), and youngster Wallis (110) knocking up triple figures. The second, two weeks, tops. The third, NFI.

;

MALLACOOTA MAGICIANS 1280 Def by POOWONG POTOROOS 1355

It was as it was promised, a clash of two ORFFL heavyweights, Poowong downing Mallacoota by 75 points in a high scoring affair. Their highly touted midfield of Gary (125), Thompson (161), Sewell (140), and Mzungu (76) scoring 502 points in a mighty display of prowess. The other Thompson (116) and revelation, TheSherminator (104) also chipped in with nice hungies.

Meanwhile in the losers rooms, the Magicians skulk and sulk as they lament a lost chance stay in the Top4. Redden (118) performed well in a loss, Crameri (109) continued to prove what a find he is for Mallacoota, while Rance (108), Whitecross (100) and Wood (102) all reached the magical 100 point barrier. The simple fact is that with Fyfe, McEvoy and Harbrow out for extended periods, their depth is being tested. Not a good time to come up against 2nd.

;

WOY WOY WIZARDS 1219 Def by BONNIE DOON BANDITS 1284

Bonnie Doon walks out of Woy Woy feeling like they got away with one, victorious by 65 points. With a full squad on the park at last, the Bandits showed what they are capable of; Cox (141), Mitchell (101), Gia (100), Tippett (119), Coniglio (103), and Schoenmakersclangermakersnomore (104). The last two on the last showing good signs as relative youngsters in this team.

I wouldn’t say it’s crisis time, but Woy Woy must have given serious thought of what they need to possibly do to get a win. They sit 13th on the ladder, and yet remarkably have scored the 6th most points in 2012. This week Sandi (126), Chappy (101), Monty (101) and Brian (108) played well, but ultimately the spectacular work was left to too few hands.

GLENROWAN GUNSLINGERS 975 Def by MERTON MEERKATS 1336

As Richmond molested Sydney, so did Merton do likewise to Glenrowan, to the tune of 361 points. The Meerkats dimmed the bright lights of Glenrowan; Cotchin (111), Newman (116), Foley (134), Grigg (111) and TheMullet (134) all running rampant. Fair to say that Merton have their own revelation in Sean Grigg (avg. 103), as everyone had ample opportunity in the draft to grab him, yet only one man had the balls.

For the Gunslingers, one probably just to forget and reload for next week. Two donuts, four players scoring less than 60, and only Beams (109) and Iles (127) tonning up. Picking Xavier Ellis in the 10th round is proving to be a bust given his decision not to relocate to Glenrowan.

;

SARAH ISLAND SAVAGES 1269 Def by WARBURTON WANDERERS 1272

Erggh. 3 points. On scaling. ON FREAKING SCALING!

Anyways, this weekend saw Warbuton do what no other team has done so far, defeating Sarah Island by 3 FREAKING POINTS! Lewis (119) and Hale (124) got the Wanderers off to a flyer, and the high scores continued with Griffen (123), Kruezer (115) and TheChad (106). The win sees them mosey up to 3rd spot, just one game off the crown.

Sadly, for Sarah Island, this week they give up the crown as they slip to 2nd place. Not to single anyone out…

…..Jarrad Waite. When you kicked the ball out of bounds in the last qtr (a free kick Gilbert took), you lost us the game.

;

MOUNT BUGGERY DISAPPOINTMENTS 1216 Def by MILIKAPATI SNAKES 1342

An amazing game in which Mount Buggery looked likely, yet Milikapati ended up doing it with ease. getting on top by 126 points. Lids (100) continued to justify his top billing, having tonning up in every game so far, while Birchall (122) and DuffMan (130) returned to form after last weeks paltry efforts. Pav (115) and Kelly (108) also exceeded the 100 mark and four other players (Anthony, Clarke, Gaff, Breust) also scored 90 or above in a solid team display.

At Mount Buggery, while they’re losing, at least they’re living up to the name. ThePermaCaptain (164) and Sidebum (156) belting out huge ones, with Suckling (103), Ward (113) and Clark (104) chipping in in supporting roles. Yet the class difference between their best and their worst continues to present as a chasm. Bate (13), Colyer (6) and Ellis (2) were ORFFL.

;

HUMPTY DOO HAMMERHEADS 990 Def by POPANYINNING PYRITE 1167

Winners all round here as Popanyinning get the metaphorical 4 points, winning by 177, and Humpty Doo look to have first pick in the midseason draft sown up. No offence to either of the coaches, but this game never really hit any great heights; Boyd (137), Shuey (110) and Hayes (107) the only men to reach triple figures for the victors. McPharlin (89, avg. 80), it’s worth mentioning, proving to be quite the handy pick in R25.

Over at Humpty Doo, it was Judd (144) and not much else. Sauce (97), Stiffy (95) and Wellers (89) played their part too, but this is a line-up that’s been decimated by injury and Reimers. Still, on the bright side Pearce looks in good nick, which should make a bit of difference in a few weeks time.

;

JIMCUMBILLY JACKRABBITS 1072 Def by PURNULULU BUNGLE RANGERS 1243

The nightmare continues for Jimcumbilly, losign this week to the PBR by a sizeable 171 points. The Rangers had it all going for them this weekend; their experienced players in Selwood (114), Ryder (137), Heater (142), Walker (124) and HarryO (115) leading the way admirably. If Swallow recovers from injury, and Neeld decides to play Trengove in the midfield again, this team from Purnululu Bungle could be a serious threat once again.

At Jimcumbilly they must be tearing their hair out. Only Nick Dal Santo (101) went into triple figures. 5 players scored under 60. And Crazy Vossy giving ThePeople’sBeard the week off left them without a ruckman. Cazy Vossy will ruin many football teams, fantasy or no, before his time is up.

;

TORRUMBARRY THUNDA 1133 Def by QUEENSTOWN QUOLLS 1156

I had thought this match would be closer, and for most of the time it was, but in the end Queenstown ran away with it last night, beating Torrumbarry by 95 points. Queenstown were impressive in the victory which moved them into 7th; Swan (141) and Watson (149) dominating through the middle, with Trengove (105) and TheGoodGrimes (109) efficient in defence. Bears noting as well that the Quolls pick 25 in Hampson (87, avg. 82) is proving to be quite the find in that range.

Torrumbarry slip to 9th with that loss, disappointing, but not to far off the pack. Buddy (140) was electrifying (imagine if he had of kicked straight), and Greg (107), Jack (109) and DEMPSTERED (102) all played their parts, and played them well. I’d imagine this team will look a lot better when Bernie and Douglas return from their sabbaticals.

Hey hey! Finally the SC Gods are back on side with some big scores going up around the place. Reckon 2300 is gunna be par (Which coincidently enough, is what I’m on track for in both SC and DT!)

Melbourne vs Hawthorn

Result: Hawthorn by 66, 15.25.115 to 6.13.59

I try to imagine what was going on in the media room at the AFL when they were trying to bill this one up as a big Friday night clash. Seemed the best they could come up with was- Let’s see if the Dees can prevent the inevitable stomping that they are going to recieve.

Turns out they sort of did. Lost by 11 goals, but considering the 15.25 kicked by the Hawkers, a 100 point loss really could have been on the cards.

Buddy was in classic 2012 form, kicking 3 goals 7, though considering he’s averaging 2.6 goals, 4 behinds, I think that’s a plus, sortof. Wish the bloke could kick straight though, just think what his average could have been this season! Reckon someone should send him a pair of Concave’s – see if it sorts him out.

Anyways, he did end up scoring a very tidy 140SC, matching teammate Sewell, who managed his off 32 disposals.

Hale had a very nice game. 23 touches for his 124SC, while Birchall and Lewis were both very good with 122SC and 119SC.

The only real bad news for the Hawks was Rioli who was subbed off for just 48SC, not due to any obvious reason, but I wouldn’t want to be a Rioli owner right now.

Watching Melbourne, it was all about Magner (For those of you who didn’t trade him out), and he performed admirably. 17 disposals for an 84SC should see his salary tick up for a few more weeks. Hopefully he can keep it up til after that all important round 12 bye.

Heroes: Sewell, Franklin, Hale, Birchall, Lewis, Clark, Magner
Villians: Rioli

Adelaide vs Geelong

Result: Adelaide by 50, 19.8.122 to 10.12.72

After an excellent win last week against the undefeated Swans, in Sydney no less, there were still questionmark as to the validity of their work, considering their easy early draw.

I’m thinking now, after absolutely dismantling last year premiers, that even the most die-hard Port fan has got to be thinking that Adelaide could be a top4 contender this year. I guess the wise thing to do, before making a strong call either way though, is to watch the next two weeks. Carlton, then Collingwood- Away, then home, really should give an indication just how far they’ve come. Personally, I think they will struggle, away from home, against other top4 contenders. But that home ground advantage, should see them get a good number more wins from here on in.

To the game though, Thompson was great. 34 disposals and a massive 161SC top scored the game. Walker continues his good year, with 3 goals and 124SC while Reilly and Sloane did very nicely with 120SC and 116SC respectively.

For such a loss, there were still the usual Geelong suspects who managed to break the ton, these were Selwood (114), Kelly (108), Chapman (107) and Johnson (105) – The usual suspects really.

Enright managed himself a 70SC, which should see him continue to fall in price a little, while anyone who traded into the midpricers of Christensen or Hawkins would be kicking themselves. The former for getting injured, the latter for scoring just 46SC.

Heroes: Thompson, Walker, Reilly, Sloane
Villians: Hawkins

GWS vs Gold Coast

Result: GWS by 27, 13.16.94 to 9.13.67

Well, the first win is on the board, and in what should develop into a rivaly, first blood has gone to the Giants.

Backing up from last week, I thought again, the Giants were good in the contests, jumping out to an early lead. The Suns brought that back in the second quarter kicking a massive 6.6 (3 quarters of their score!). After that though, it seemed just a matter of time til the Giants would get back in front, kicking 8.8 in the second half to 2.4

Giles top scored the game, with 21 disposals, 13 hitouts and 3 goals. A great performance from the rookie ruckman- who should be zeroing in as a top5 ruckman on the back of it.

Ward did well, with a 113SC, which was a welcome return after a couple of lean weeks- but it was Coniglio that would have been smiling. A 31 disposal, 103SC for the fella shows us just what he can bring to the table. Definitely get the feeling that he’ll be in my team some time in the next few years.

Treloar came back from injury magnificently, 18 disposals good for a mighty 96SC, while Tyson managed himself an 86SC.

Adams broke his bubble with an 80SC, Greene again with a solid 77SC, as did Smith. Kennedy owners won’t be disappointed if they held onto him, eclipsing his BE with a 75SC.

Bugg though, might be due for a rest soon, a 68SC this week, backing up his 55 from last week will see an 80+ BE put on his head next week.

Iles top scored for the Suns. The G being worth 7 points I guess, a 127SC from 28 disposals and a goal.

Ablett racked up the disposals (33) and got forward a lot. It’s just a shame he couldn’t get on the end of any goals, else his 125SC could have been a lot higher.

Rookie, Horsley broke his bubble with an 80SC. I feel for you if you’re not holding him, he should continue to fly up.

Heroes: Giles, Coniglio, Treloar, Iles, Ablett, Horsley
Villians:

Richmond vs Sydney

Result: Richmond by 29, 13.13.91 to 8.14.62

Richmond have teased us with form all year, in fact, the words honourable loss have been uttered a number of times. Not this week however, as former fliers, the Swans, were brought right back to earth with a huge defeat.

Kicking 5.6 to just 2 behinds in the first quarter, it was always going to be an ugly night for the Swans. To their credit, they kept that margin from most of the game, sneaking it a little closer through the 3rd quarter. But the Tigers were just too bloody good, finishing off the game strongly.

Foley top scored for the Tigers, with 25 disposals he managed a 134SC.

Maric has been an absolute revelation this year, this week picking up 17 disposals and 119SC.

Lots of decent scores from the Tiges with near everyone hitting their average. Everyone except Ellis, who was subbed on in the 4th, for just 3 touches at 33% DE and 2SC. This for a trade out mate- You’ve do us well.

Only one ton to the Swan, as the evergreen Kennedy managed himself a 101SC off 21 touches.

Not much else was nice though, particularly that knee injury to Parker. Still waiting on anything official, but it didn’t look great – getting him subbed off for 50SC.

Heroes: Foley, Maric, Newman
Villians: Reid, Parker, Grundy

Essendon vs West Coast

Result: Essendon by 61, 16.17.113 to 7.10.52

I had my cash on the Bombers, 1-39. But my financial pain was quickly washed away as the Bombers completely dominated in this top4 clash. Starting in the first, it was all one way traffic (al beit, inaccurate traffic.) But that did right itself after the main break, as the Eagles looked utterly spent.

The ol’ Permacaptain once again earned his mantle, 164SC off 36 disposals was a mighty effort. Watson was hot on his heels, also with 36 disposal and 149SC.

Paddy Ryder earnt his coin this week, 17 disposals and 137SC against the Nitnat-less Eagles, while Zaharakis did very nicely with 32 touches and a 130SC.

I’m gunna put Heppell into the villans column this week. Not because a 67SC is too bad for a 2nd yearer, but because I think he’s earnt the premium earmark thus far this year, and such scores aren’t good enough!

Without NitNat again, Cox was huge. 141SC this week off 21 disposals and his owners would be seriously contemplating a run-in, with NitNat, and maybe a 2×4, to keep the high-high scores rolling in.

Selwood would have disappointed those who risked such a POD, just 73SC this week, but Woosha did mention that he should be right to go next week.

Priddis got himself concussed early though, for just a 24SC. Makes him absolutely cherry ripe for an upgrade after his round 11 bye- so I’m thinking there will be a few people picking him up.

Heroes: Stanton, Watson, Ryder, Zaharakis, Cox
Villians: Heppell, Selwood, Priddis

Brisbane vs Collingwood

Result: Collingwood by 58

I’ll be honest, I was shocked when I saw the line for this game was only 30 point. Brisbane haven’t been that good, nor Collingwood that bad. And well, I was right with the line essentially being met in just the first quarter. Held steading for the next 2 quarters, and absolutely blown away in the 4th.

Sidebottom was awesome. 35 disposals and 156SC and surely he’s locked in as a top7 forward now. Just playing some excellent football.

Shaw did well after missing a few games earlier in the year. 28 touches and 142SC goes a long way to saying sorry. Particularly for the donut mate. That said though, I reckon you’re still a few more massive games away from complete forgiveness.

Just behind him was Swan, 34 touches and 2.2 for a very nice 141SC, while Beams really looks back in form with 30 touches and a 109SC.

Pendles was a little under, with 107SC, while Clarke put in another excellent performance with a 90SC flat.

Redden top scored again for the Lions, this week with 28 touches and a 118SC.

However, that was the only real highpoint as Rockliff again underperformed with an 85SC (and like Priddis, should be value after his bye), Hanley made an 81SC which was fantastic, considering he got subbed off and will be looking at a stint on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, our hopeful backline downgrade, Zorko was only subbed on late, picking up just 16SC.

Heroes: Sidebottom, Shaw, Swan, Beams, Clarke
Villians:

Now that’s all from me so far. Ducking out tonight, but will be around after lockout opens to get the stats up.

Feel free to let us know how you’re going- looks like a lot of big scores this week.

In the meantime however, I’ve got a serious question for you.

Looking at Zorko. And an absolute truck load of non-GWS rookies this year, the sub rule has massively curtailed their earning potential. I mean, outside of the GWS, and Magnar- and now Horsley, has there been much?

Now, riddle me this, lets say next year, we have 2 subs. And now GWS rookies availiable. There’s going to be effectively 4 players per team subbed a game- killing the fast generation of cash that we’ve come to expect and love over the last few years.

Might bring the mid-pricer back into play, right?
