We got another article put together by one of the regulars in these parts, Jason. Hes taken the time to put together a review of all the discounts that are available this year. Makes for some good reading to see it all together. So, here goes...

As we all look to find potential bargains before the start of the season, one of the first places to look should be players who have been given a discount on what would have been their 2011 starting price due to an
    injury-restricted 2010 season.

There are 51 players listed for SuperCoach in 2011 that have been given discounts ranging from 50% down to 10% and the players come from all positions on the ground. Only players with less than 8 games
from2010 would appear to have been eligible for a starting price discount for season 2011. For this reason, a player such as Michael Barlow will (eventually) begin the 2011 season at full price relative to their 2010
SuperCoach average of points-per-game (ppg), despite tragically missing a lot of games in 2010 due to injury.

So who received an injury discount for 2011? Read on over the break to find out more.

    * Injury reported to have resulted in less than 2 weeks missed during 2010
** No reported injury on either club website or tooserious.net player information page

My researched into the injuries that the 51 players listed above sustained during 2010 was based on club website information and the tooserious.net player pages. It should be noted that clearly this information is
incomplete, perhaps others may be able to shed more light on some of these players’ injuries.

Based on my research, I could not find any reported injury during 2010 for as many as 14 players who have been discounted for 2011. For a further six discounted players, their reported injury during 2010 was
relatively minor and resulted in less than 2 weeks downtime. It would appear that perhaps one in three of the players to have been discounted for 2011 may not have been seriously injured during 2010. Was a lack
of form a bigger factor in these guys missing games during 2010 than their medical condition? At least on the surface, it appears possible that this is the case.

What types of injuries were sustained that resulted in starting price discounts for 2011? With the exception of a handful of broken bone injures, almost all of them were soft-tissue injuries. Now given the
tendency for soft-tissue injuries to recur for players that are susceptible, obviously these players are at risk of going down again in 2011 with another soft-tissue injury. Some of these guys have never played a full
season at AFL level and on the balance of probabilities they may be unlikely to ever do so. But if they can just keep themselves patched up for 2011, there are clearly some SuperCoach bargains to be found.

When even the smallest saving to be found is the equivalent of around $28k (or 6 ppg), these guys are definitely worth a closer look. They only have to make it onto the park and perform at the same
level as 2010 and you will already be making money. Don’t forget that their 2010 average may have been ‘artificially’ reduced by a low score during the game that they went down with the injury.

Some of these injury discounted players may prove to be veritable gold-mines for SuperCoaches in 2011. Have you considered whether you are prepared to take a risk on these players for a starting place in your 2011 team?
