Another week has come and gone- as we all move another week closer to our finals.
I'm hoping you're all in contention still!
Now, before we review a few games, I just thought I'd touch on our Footy Show comp. I'll be drawing out the winner on Monday, and they'll get themselves a ticket (or two if they have a special someone they would like to drag along)- meaning we'll have a few more comps over the next few weeks to give them all out!
Oh- and if you missed it, the code word was Ballantyne.
West Coast vs Essendon
Result: Essendon by 7
Football started this weekend on a Thursday with Essendon taking the long trip out to Patterson stadium to play against the West Coast
Eagles.
An absolute humdinger of a game, Essendon found themselves down by 5 goals in the 3rd term, before, as they have so many times this
season, drawing back and just falling over the line.
Jobe Watson top scored for the Bombers, with 29 touches and 2 goals for a 127SC, and might I add, 29 booooos along the way after the
week his had. He shared the lead with Jake CARLISLE who made his 127SC after once again switch hitting with Hurley, and kicking 2
goals.
Dyson HEPPELL started slowly, but was the only other Don to crack the ton with 104SC off 21 touches and a goal.
Over on West Coasts side, Sam Butler top scored with 22 disposals at 86% for a 129SC, while Mark LeCras, Dean Cox
, <a href="http://tooserious.net/Player.aspx?id=313&name=Matt Priddis">Matt Priddis
WCE, Ashley Smith, Chris Masten and Mark HUTCHINGS all managed to creep above the hundred mark.
A couple of villians though, Nic Naitanui could be lowing his price for next year, getting a little beaten in the ruck by Ryder,
with 10 touches and 17 hitouts for 73SC, while Beau Waters had 21 touches, but a couple of absolute clangers left him on just 57SC.
Heroes: Jobe Watson, Jake CARLISLE, Sam Butler, Mark HUTCHINGS
Villains:
Port Adelaide V Collingwood
Result: Port by 35
Port Adelaide keep producing in the big games. Perfect conditions at Football Park saw Collingwood kick the first two goals of the
game, but that would prove to be just another slow Power start as Port took a 9 point lead into the first break. The second and third
quarters were a real battle, and great spectator footy despite little scoreboard impact by either side. Port Adelaide really blew the
Pies away with 5 goals on the trot in the final term to get 8 goals ahead before two late Collingwood goals gave us the final score.
Worth noting that Port won all four quarters in their domination of the Magpies.
For Port, it was two old bulls and one calf who lead the scoring. Brad Ebert took nine marks, laid six tackles, had the ball 30 times
and kicked 1.0 on his way to 130SC. Kane Cornes had 31 disposals and six tackles for his 110SC. Unbelievable if you didn't watch the
game, but the second top Port scorer was the sub - rising star Oliver Wines (116) ditched the green vest in the second term after
Domenic Cassisi (12) did a hammy. Big Oly had 26 touches, six tackles and kicked a goal in an effort that should earn him three Brownlow
votes. Matthew Broadbent (107) had 34 touches, while Travis Boak (96) kicked 1.0 and had 29 disposals before hurting his ankle in the
last term. Three goals each to Justin Westhoff (94) and Jay Schulz (81), while Chad Wingard (89) and Angus Monfries (73) both
kicked two goals.
Collingwood's best scorer was young Paul SEEDSMAN (119) who took 15 marks and had 34 disposals. The only other Pie ton was the ever
reliable Scott Pendlebury (112), who laid seven tackles and touched the ball 28 times. Goals kickers for the Pies were Sam Dwyer
(68, 2.1), Travis Cloke
(69, 2.0), <a href="http://tooserious.net/Player.aspx?id=2168&name=Jamie Elliott">Jamie Elliott (39, 1.2) and green vest
Ben Kennedy (20, 1.0).
Heroes: Brad Ebert
, Seedsman, Wines, Pendles, Kornes, <a href="http://tooserious.net/Player.aspx?id=668&name=Hamish Hartlett">Hamish Hartlett (95),
Dale Thomas (93), Nick Maxwell (91),
Kyle Martin (51).
Villains: Heath Shaw (70), Brent Macaffer (46), Quinten Lynch (45), Jackson Trengove (44).
Geelong vs Fremantle
Result: Geelong by 41
My my, I don't say this often, but boy, this was an ugly game of football to watch! You think that seeing one of the best attacking teams line up against the most defensive, would offer something epic- but I dunno man, it just degraded into ugly ugly football, which time and time again, saw Geelong sneak out with the ball and get it forward for a goal- or, technically, a behind.
Fremantle have got to be examining how there game will hold up in September, as most clubs will be looking at how Geelong decimated them- to the point of a scoreless 3rd term with just the 1 inside 50.
Harry Taylor top scored for the night with 28 disposals and 131SC, while Allan CHRISTENSEN had an absolute blinder, picking up 125SC from 36 disposals. He did have a measly 58% disposal rate, but I'm sure that was helped by his 17 contested touches. Guess that's what happens when you focus so strongly on keeping Joel Selwood out of the action, and boy did Crowley do a great job on him, keeping him to just 13 touches and 54SC.
In fact, 8 Cats ended up tonning up, including Dawson Simpson who won the rucking duel with 13 touches and 34 hitouts for 105SC.
On the Dockers side, only two players managed a ton- Danyle Pearce who picked up 24 touches and 114SC and Garrick Ibbotson who's newly found premium status was continued with 19 touches and 103SC.
Zachary Clarke did alright with 14 touches, 24 hitouts and 97SC, but in reality, it was a pretty dark day for the Dockers in general with most of them scoring well below what was expected.
Luckily though, from a fantasy view point- most of the Dockers owned, were mentioned above, or out injured, or if you're really unlucky, was Nathan FYFE who made just 68SC from 23 touches.
Heroes: Harry Taylor, Allan CHRISTENSEN, Danyle Pearce
Villains: Joel Selwood, Nathan FYFE
And there we go. Let us know how you've gone this week. How's those trades working out for ya? I can tell you- had we been limited to 20 trades this year, boy, it would have been a very tough year- rather than just the tough year that it's been!
