Gday all, Week in week out there are forums and threads all over the place about Captains, who I should make Captain and why - etc, etc. So I thought I would provide, as my first contribution, a weekly run down of the usual suspects and players in good form - and give you all a one-stop shop for all your Captain Considerations!

Likely Options
Gary Ablett
The last two weeks have seen Ablett return with a vengeance - scores
of 162 and 127 give him an average over 144.5 and he is the in form
player in the comp at the moment. You know youre going alright when
your team gets absolutely smashed all over the park yet youre still
able to rake in a healthy 127. Geelong play Carlton this week, a team
Ablett has traditionally played well against, and the stats back me up
- he has an average of 127 against Carlton with a highest score of 132
in last years game vs the Blues. If you have him, he should be at the
top of your list for this week.
Jimmy Bartel
Gone a little bit off the radar and for some coaches, the time is
now to get in Jimmy. A few off weeks (by his lofty standards) has seen
him drop into the high 500s and his breakeven head up to 184. The last
two weeks have seen him score 103 and 65 (with an average of 84).
However, like Ablett, seems to like playing against the (relatively)
inexperienced midfield of Carlton and their lack of taggers may see
Bartel fire this week. He has the pedigree, and the history shows that
he averages 105 against Carlton, with a highest score of 112 vs the
Blues. Should be a consideration.
Jonathon Brown
Hit the form that all supercoaches were hoping for, and not before
time! With 131 and 132 in the last two weeks, hes shown that a little
faith in your guns goes a long way. Sitting on a breakeven of 13 means
hes probably the in form forward of the comp at the moment and with
North at the Gabba this week, things could look good for Brisbane.
Brown tore North a new one last year, on his way to 158 in one of their
games, although over time he averages 98 against them. There may still
be the Brown/Bradshaw issue, although the only issue last week was how
many goals they were going to put past the Saints. Unsure of this one
at this stage - I think theres better options - but you cant argue
with the form guide.
Adam Cooney
My man Adam Cooooooney has been on fire this year, is up there is
Charlie contention and is playing some good supercoach football (which
is the most important thing!). He has carved up 114 and 123 (with a
170-odd the week before) and sits with a breakeven this week of 124.
However in the game of the round, the Western Bulldogs face the
pacesetting Hawks, in what will surely be the acid test for the Dogs.
Cooney has traditionally struggled against the Hawks, with scores of 92
and 43 against them. He only averages 67 against the Hawks, and the
Dogs will need much more than that from him should they aim to pick up
the points on the weekend.
Dean Cox
Back to a bit of form despite suffering from David Beckham disease.
Battling through a broken foot, he still manages to be far and away the
best choice ruckman there is. Scores of 145 and 83 highlight his value
in the ruck division, and he (like most Eagles) seems to get himself up
for matches against Collingwood. A top score of 131 against the Pies
last year, with an average of 116 against them is good form, but I got
burned last week with his 83 so Im not convinced.
Buddy Franklin
The guy just keeps scoring - seriously - had a down game and still
cracked the ton. If you have him, you cant be unhappy. With scores of
131 and 103 in the last few weeks hes shown that even if he has an off
game he still scores well. Dogs will struggle to contain the powerhouse
forward line of the Hawks and that could spell a big score for Buddy.
With a 154 last year against them in Tasmania, youd have to think hed
be your No1 choice. Averaging 122 against the Dogs kind of backs me up
here. Spewing I dont have him..yet.
Matthew Richardson
Im not sure if anyone else thought this, but on Saturday night I
was worried that the good form could be coming to an end for the most
emotional man in football. Having said that - hes been a supercoach
superstar this year and with scores of 112 and 92 in the last two
weeks, you can hardly whinge with his output. Problem is, the Tigers
have Sydney this week. Richo struggles against Sydney, with scores of
89 and 39 last year and an average of 64 vs the Swans, he, like Cooney,
could be one to steer clear of this week.
There it is - just a small snippet of what goes into Captain Considerations for Round 10!
(Feel free to suggest or ask for a run down of anyone I havent
included - I will change through a fair few players each week, and its
only my opinion of who I think is in most peoples calculations for
this week).
