A deplorable 1988 points for the round, which had us placed at 103,271 for the week. We dropped nearly 2500 places in the overall chase, to be 25,943 after 21 weeks. So how did this abomination unfold? As below:
    Backmen:
    Goddard 110
    Gibbs 89
    Staker 73
    Hanley 55
    Heppell 39
    Midfielders:
    Selwood 144
    Kennedy 136
    Pendlebury 110 (VC)
    Ablett 97 Captain 194
    Dangerfield 86
    Jack 80
    Griffen 78
    Cotchin 62
    Ruckmen:
    Goldstein 124
    Cox 89
    Forwards:
    Johnson 110
    Rockliff 105
    Franklin 101
    Westhoff 88
    Roughead 60
    Kennedy 55
    Bench:
    Ibbotson
    Webster
    Thurlow
    Vlastuin 82
    Martin
    Rowe
    Currie
    Zorko 101
    Richards
Its quite obvious where we lost our points this week. All over the park!
Down back we were short a player, even after making two trades and all the DPP swaps we could, although if we had traded slightly differently we could have saved the zero. The trades we made were Mitchell to Jack and Clisby to Richards. This allowed us to avoid Mitchell's donut with Jack's 80, although it left Vlastuin on the pine. The Clisby trade allowed us to open the forward-defence DPP, which we used to send Staker down back, but we still missed out as the only DPP swap available with Vlastuin was for other scoring players.
The backline did see Goddard score 110 points, but everyone else did quite poorly. While the trades helped but could have been better, we still missed out through Heppell's injury, when Vlas was sitting on the pine and scored 43 more points.
In the midfield we had a full complement, but completely messed up the captain selection. Once again giving the permacap a go, only to see Ablett score 97 points. The VC on Pendles didn't work out for us either. It would have been nice to have put the VC on Selwood, and then used the loophole in the rucks, but alas we did not. The new recruit Jack also dis quite badly, scoring only 80 in his first outing for the donors. Potential points missed there was 47.
The rucks was our only real shining light, even with Cox's 89, as Goldstein's 124 really bumped up the average!
Finally the forwards, where year-long disappointment Franklin topped the ton with 101 points, the same as bench man Zorko. Johnson lead the way on 110, while Rockliff finally proved that he and Zorko can perform in the same forward line… oh wait, might that be because Vossy wasn't there to ruin them both? On the subject of ruined, Roughead was just that, as was a goalless Kennedy, who was probably lucky to score his 55 points. Swapping him for Zorko would have scored us an extra 46.
So, all up there was a couple of trades that could have been better, 43 potential points down back, 47 potential points in the mids, and 46 potential points up forward. The grand total being 136 points and whatever a better trade would have given us (lets call it 60 for arguments sake). Even with all of this, we would still have been short of 2200 points for the round.
Onto the leagues, and in UCantBeTooSerious we had the bye, and now take on Attrition in the preliminary final of the losers league.
In UCantBe TS we had a win in the semi over Red Hypergiants, and now take on Astroboys in the winners league.
In the TS Donuts we had the bye, and now take on Junior Butch in the winners league.
In our first private league we also had the bye, and now take on HAMMERSHOTPIES in the winners league, while in our other public league we lost by a lousy 2 points in the winners league semi final.
Come and join us in the donors forum to help with the final trade for the year, and who to stick the C and VC on, because it looks like Gazza is losing his gloss!
