Fyfe named AFL's MVP for second year running

Nat Fyfe capped off another impressive season by joining a small list of players to have been awarded the AFL's MVP in consecutive years. The elite list, which had only featuredGary Ablett and Michael Voss before Fyfe's achievement, highlights just how much of an impact the Fremantle star has made during his short AFL career. The midfielder collected 1455 votes on his way to collecting the Leigh Matthews Trophy for a second time,usurpingfive-time winner Ablettfor a second successive season and further establishing himself as one of the AFL's most talented young players of a generation.
Having made history as the youngest-ever winner of the award last year, Fyfe was under pressure this season to replicate his 2014 form. Being under the microscope hasn't appeared to have hampered the youngster, and the Dockers star has, if anything, performed even better this year than he did last season, playing a crucial role in Fremantle success in 2015. His stand-out showing against Adelaide in Round 9 proved that Fyfehad again improved this year, racking up 150 fantasy points that will have had any coaches who selected him at the start of the season absolutely delighted.

In what has been a remarkable season for Fyfeboth in terms of form for Fremantle and the fantasy points he has racked up this year, Fyfecould now be set to end the season with another accolade to his name. Currently at evens with bet365 to win the Brownlow Medal this year, 2015 could well end up being a sensational campaign for the 23-year old, even if Fremantle fail to make it into the Grand Final. Having averaged a career-high 102 fantasy points in 2014, Fyfe has gone better this year, currently averaging 105 points per game, having recorded over 100 fantasy points on 13 occasions this season.
On the back of a sensational season, it came as little surprise Fyfeearned almost 1000 more votes than his nearest rivals, North Melbourne's Todd Goldstein and Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield. There was an tip of the cap to Port Adelaide playmaker Robbie Gray, who made the top-10 despite the fact his team haven't played a game in September. But in the only award voted for by the players, it was Fyfe who took home the honours, putting himself in a position where he could become only the third player in 10 years to have won the AFL MVP and the BrownlowMedal in the same season, something Ablett also achieved.

Seemingly in line to win his third-straight best-and-fairest award and earn his second selection as an All-Australian, the ruthless onballerhas more than lived up to the hype that has followed him over the past couple of years. Averaging 29 disposals, Fyfe has kicked 17 goals and recorded an eye-catching 33 contested marks. While Fyfe was always going to be one of the fantasy signings of the season, his incredible tally throughout the regular season has more than repaid those coaches who shelled on him at the start of the year.
