We could finish it in 48 hours if we really wanted too.
Everyone sends Xenomorph a 50 man list in order, we dont have to worry too much about positions now we are into the backups.
He then uses the draft order to assign the names, any gaps dealt with on the fly.
Up and running for week 8.

Hornsey suggests we hold off on this approach for the enjoyment of the draft, and I agree, up to a point.

My suggestion is we do this Monday, starting from the next full clear round, we should be at 350 by then at least, 50 names will take us home and guarantee the R8 start.

    thought?

    I dont know.

Im enjoying the draft and I reckon we're going quick enough for a round 8 start anyway - i actually think we're going quick enough for a round 7 start, but we'll wait and see on that.

If we start in round 7, we could all play each other once this season, not having any finals or byes. Maybe during next week we can see how we're tracking and then make a decision.

It is still good to have this discussion now tho

I am all for a round 6 start using the first 14 picks (or 15 if we finish that round soon) as the team. Note that I would be disadvantaged by this as some of my players are out this week.

However, ant's suggestion of a round 7 start which means a full round robin makes more sense to me. That seems better to me thsn a partial round and some "finals"

Pretty sure as it stands so far we should be done by Wednesday latest at our current rate.

Just in time for week 7

*** Going fwd, if you wont be on the chat for an extended period, just send a list to Anth/X/TiB for your next 2 picks....problem solved.

I can get on board with that plan, I raised it primarily due tothe low level grumbling yesterday about the time between picks.

Starting now won't work for me, I have deliberately selected for next year and have a number in my initial 15 that won't play for a while..
Still should do it for fun in some way this weekend if that's possible, but the logistics of getting the teams in could hamper that.

  6. Hey guys, just a quick thought but if you want to get things up and running ASAP and are thinking of fielding teams over byes then some teams will be hugely disadvantaged by the line-ups of their teams compared to bye rounds.

You could consider this year having, for example, a 10 man line-up instead?

No interchange, 3 X DEF, MID, and FWD and 1 X ruck (and 3 X Emergency).

That would give you all an extra 5 players on the bench and probably mean teams could cover more outs in each bye round, and maybe even it out a little bit for teams with 3-4 starters out in one bye.

As I have nothing to do with this comp it's just a suggestion of course, but food for thought.

I agree with Simon about a likely Wednesday finish. If we get say 30 more picks done today and avg 40/day on Sat & Sun, we'll be around pick 400 by the end of the weekend, and hopefully better if people can organise to drop in regularly (can be difficult I know).

I think we've done remarkably well to progress as quickly as we have to be honest.

Tha said, if lists are required I'll be happy to provide one! :)

I am really enjoying the draft as is, not sure about lists for all your picks. I just think people need to be mindful if their pick is approaching (within 10 picks) that they need to get on within the next couple hours, and if they cant that's when they need to shoot through a 10 player list.

We are going pretty well, should be done by tue-thu :)

I'm easy. But I'm more open to listening to advice from those who have trod this path before us.

    I've heard that, Terry.

I think we are going fine as we are, personally. We should be finished by early next week for a round 7. start.

I really don't think we should be playing through the bye rounds with such small teams and with no trades.

The bye rounds will be the mid year trading and drafting, so they are taken anyway.

    Good suggestions from all.

It has been a frustrating weekend draft wise. 80 more picks to go guys. The sooner we get this done the sooner we get to play. If a few have been bypassed it is because we are well and truly at the arse end of the draft and really most of the picks are pretty crappy now.

If you did get bypassed, it's not that you are a bad person, it's more likely that you just were not around when many others were waiting patiently to take a pick. Again, it has been an entirely arbitrary decision based on a complex formula including how many scotches I've had.

I would also like to point out that we have gotten through 21 1/2 rounds in 9 days using this method which is a testament to everyone's efforts and pretty damn good from comparisons with other similar drafts.

    Nearly done now.

Completely understand bypassing and reserving picks, especially at this late stage. X, you've given up a lot of time for this and it is appreciated. I don't think anyone can complain if their pick gets reserved, especially in the 300s/400s.
