    It’s here!
The 2022B ORFFW Grand Final has arrived and the tension is palpable as the teams prepare for the last game in October.
Final preparations are being completed by both coaches to ensure the best two teams across the season are in the best shape going into the big game
We have two very worthy teams playing off. The ever strong Lake St Clair Devils lead by @dmandrews will take on the giant killers from last week the Timboon Trailblazers @Peter W.

Both coaches will go in with much confidence from last weeks semi finals wins with massive scores of 912 for LSC and 866 for Timboon - hopefully this means a high scoring free flowing game ahead for us!

The Devils have been well lead by Jas Garner, Emma Swanson and Mon Conti all year and this strong midfield will again be tasked with scoring heavily

The Trailblazers will once again look to Kiara Bowers and ruck sensation Alice Edmonds while hoping Erin Phillips can turn back the clock for a grand final special

With both teams ending the season on 7-2 this is a very even matchup and one that should have all fans of the ORFFW enjoying a hotly contested grandy!

Good luck to both coaches and may the best team win

    TIMBOON TRAILBLAZERS:

B: Charlotte Thomas / Libby Birch / Breanna Koenen (Madison Newman)
M: Kiara Bowers / Alicia Eva / Tarni White / Erin Phillips (Jaide Britton)
    R: Alice Edmonds (Alison Downie)
F: Chloe Molloy / Abbie Ballard / Brooke Lochland (Nell Morris-Dalton)
INT: Dana East / Abbie McKay (Maddison Gay)

The Trailblazers Grand Final team is in (though not 100 per cent confirmed). The side is a placeholder at this stage, particularly around the weighing up of whether or not to bring Madison Newman into the side. Her Crows play the Saints, while Thomas' Eagles play Melbourne in Casey. On one hand, Thomas should see plenty of the ball down her end, but on the other, the Dees might look to nullify here. Likewise with Koenen, she often locks down on Molloy when forward (yay for me), but now she is mostly midfield, this might change.

In terms of chances, just the one into the emergencies slot, with Jaide Britton replacing Jasmine Fleming (Year 12 exams). Very happy Jaide can get a gig in the GF spot, albeit as an emergency.

    Good luck @dmandrews

Lake St Clair Devils Round 10 team

Out: Olivia Vesely (concussion), Alex Ballard (concussion)
    In: Jess Hosking, Emma King

Def: Georgia Garnett, Meghan McDonald, Jess Hosking (Sarah Allan)
Mid: Jasmine Garner, Emma Swanson, Monique Conti, Lily Mithen (Charlotte Baskaran)
Ruc: Lucy Wales (Aishling Sheridan OOP)
Fwd: Courtney Jones, Jacqueline Vogt, Kate Shierlaw (Kalinda Howarth)
Int: Kirsty Lamb, Emma King (Catherine Phillips)

The Lake St Clair Devils have made two forced changes with defender Alex Ballard and midfielder Olivia Vesely both out with concussion. Defender Jess Hosking and ruck Emma King have been brought into the side. It is a bit of a risk by the Devils to change their structure for the GF and play two rucks

Commiserations on the preliminary final loss to Timboon @TheTassieHawk. Manildra were clearly the best side during the home and away season and the Mystix loss highlights how brutal it can be in ORFF* finals.

Congratulations on making the Grand Final @Peter W and best of luck for your Trailblazers on the weekend.

In road 4 the LSC Devils won a road game against the Timboon Trailblazers 737 to 729. On the occasion the Devils had the two best players on the ground in midfielders Emma Swanson (113) and Kirsty Lamb (104) but also had the only three sub 20 scores for the game. The Trailblazers were led by midfielder duo Abbie McKay (103) and Kiara Bowers (94) along with forward Chloe Molloy (76). The remaining 10 Timboon players all scored between 30 and 59.

Hopefully the Devils and Trailblazers can deliver another classic contest on the weekend in front of a capacity crowd at Lake St Clair to determine the 2022B ORFFW Premiers.

Pretty happy so far given I just have my mids left. I know how quickly scores can change with a couple of bad scores, but so far, so good.

If Alicia Eva and Erin Phillips can combine for 68 points or more it will be the season record in the GF. Pretty gobsmacked by this performance.

*touch wood* but saving the best until last.

Thanks for the score updates @Peter W, it has been ugly reading for the Devils so far. Awesome performance by the Trailblazers to have all 11 players to date score more than 50. It has been a very even performance by Timboon with one notable exception – Kiara Bowers who well and truly utilised her turbo powers in the Grand Final to have 34 disposals and lay an ORFFW record 22 tackles to amass 184 points – more than 100 points ahead of the second ranked player for the game.

Although only six Devils have taken the field so far LSC have registered the only three sub 50 scores of the game. Two of the Devils big three remain in Garner and Conti and for LSC to have any chance they would both need to have incredible games.

Even if Timboon finished the game with a pair of bad scores with Eva and Phillips managing only half their season to date average they would still add 59 points to Timboon’s tally to increase the total to 903. Lake St Clair would then require their remaining seven players to accumulate 604 points at an average of 86.3 points per player.

Timboon Trailblazers are in a commanding position which has led to David King tweeting “The only way Timboon aren’t the ORFFW 2022B premiers at the end of this game is if a freak event occurs.”

Now it's done and dusted, I think it's probably the time to say a few words.

Firstly, what a great competition this is, had a lot of fun, and even though I thought I had a team that could compete for a flag, I'm always unlucky in these management games and nothing rarely goes to plan. To have such a sensational finish to the season - after a slow start - was fantastic, and to produce my best two performances in the finals was phenomenal. I was half expecting to stink it up on Grand Final Day as @dmandrews had been the stronger team all year like @TheTassieHawk had been prior to that.

I think it shows you just have to do enough to reach finals, and anything can happen from there. To have a freak like Kiara Bowers is bloody helpful, but for everyone to score 50+ then that's just an incredible feat and I couldn't be more thrilled. Not sure what there is to win other than bragging rights and pride, but I'm over the moon to take this out, and of course I'll be looking to go back-to-back next season!

The ORFFW Grand Final saw Timboon deservedly crowned as the 2022B champions.

A first up loss to 2022B wooden spooners Bathurst put Timboon under the pump early and after another loss in Round 4 they rallied to win 6 straight matches including a Round 7 nailbiter over Wongan Hills then dispatching the top 2 teams on the ladder during the finals.

The pattern is in stark contrast to seasons 1 through 3 whereby Bateman’s Bay/Timboon have started brightly before fading down the home stretch.

Congrats to @Peter W and enjoy the offseason celebrations. Commiserations to @dmandrews who I am sure will be right at the pointy end again next ORFFW season.

Congratulations @Peter W on the Timboon Trailblazers exceptional performance in the 2022 ORFFW Grand Final to convincingly defeat the Lake St Clair Devils. Timboon timed their run to perfection, scoring an ORFFW season-high 961 points in the Grand Final, surpassing the Wongan Hills Wallabies score of 940 in Round 5. An incredible team effort to have all 13 Trailblazers score over 50 in the GF led by a mammoth 184 from Kiara Bowers, who amazingly more than doubled the second ranked player for the game – LSC Devils midfielder Monique Conti (85).

After Lake St Clair played their best game of the season to score 916 in their preliminary final victory over the Valkeries they didn’t respond well to the immense pressure applied by Timboon and only scored 700 in the Grand Final – the Devils third lowest score of the season. Overall a very successful 2022 from the LSC Devils to finish top two in both seasons, make both Grand Finals and have the distinction of both winning a GF and losing a GF in the same calendar year due to an AFLW scheduling quirk. The Devils will be making some tweaks in the off-season in an attempt to continue their finals streak. The first issue for the match committee to discuss is the possible move of Georgia Garnett from defense to the forward line.

Over the course of the 2022B ORFFW season including finals Lake St Clair averaged 794 points per game, ranked second in the comp behind Manildra Mystix’s 854 and just ahead of Timboon Trailblazers 792, Wongan Hills Wallabies 789 and Vivonne Bay Valkeries 787 which highlights how close together 2nd to 5th were behind the Mystix.

One of these five teams was going to be unlucky to miss the finals. In hindsight the critical encounter proved to be in Round 7 when Timboon Trailblazers defeated Wongan Hills Wallabies by a solitary point 745 to 744. At the end of the home and away season Timboon finished third and Wongan were the unlucky side in fifth place. If Wongan had of won in Round 7 the roles would have been reversed with the Wallabies finishing third and the Trailblazers missing out in fifth.

    @Peter W your comment

Has definitely proven to be correct on in the ORFFW and various other ORFF* comps over the years with dominant minor premiers frequently being upset in the finals and a team peaking at the right end of the season winning the premiership.

During their two finals Timboon played incredible attacking football to average 916.5 points per game, 7.3% more than Manildra’s 854 points per game in their nine games which highlights the heights the Trailblazers reached at the business end of the season to be deserving premiers.
