[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri;][span style='font-size: 16px;]After a successful home and away season in 2013, the
Tigers were bundled out of the finals by the 9th[span style='font-size: 16px;] placed team. This
is somewhat ironic however, as a Richmond supporter, I'd rather brush over this
point rather than explore it. An improvement in morale and better chemistry in
the team formed a pretty strong force for the Tigers. Brandon Ellis, Daniel Jackson
and Nick Vlastuin were the standout performers with better than expected
seasons. From a SuperCoach perspective, Deledio, Cotchin and Riewoldt were a
little disappointing but were still able to score relatively well. 2013 may
have ended in disappointment, but it appears that Richmond may be entering
their most successful period of football for a long time.

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Looking at the fixture, Richmond should be making finals
again. They have a number of easy games and natural improvement should turn
those 50/50 games into a few more wins. Looking at SuperCoach prices, there is
plenty of value throughout the team. While you don't want to be selecting too
many players from the same club, below should give you a rough idea as to who you
should consider from the yellow and black.

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;]<em style='mso-bidi-font-style: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;]Consider[/b]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Trent Cotchin
$572,000 - MID (2013 avg; 106.05)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]A lot of SuperCoach fanatics said the Cotchin was had a
poor year last season. Granted, he averaged 10 PPG less than 2012, but his
output was still quite good. Out of the 21 matches he played, he scored above 100
in 15 of them. In the other six matches, he averaged above 75 on four occasions
with the two other scores being 62 and 65. It is important to note that he was
subbed off in one of these matches after picking up a niggle the week before. The
main area that Cotchin dropped off in was his goal scoring. In the regular
season, he kicked just 4 goals which was poor considering he averaged a goal a
game in 2012. After all these negatives however, comes a recommendation to
select him. Prices are skewed in SC this season and we want to find value for
our money. Cotchin is a great example of this. If he gets through the season
unscathed, he could average 120. Therefore, he is probably a good $80k cheaper
than his potential output. Should be a lock as your M3.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Brett Deledio
$558,800 - MID (2013 avg; 103.59)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Deledio has been ultra consistent over the past 6
seasons, playing every game and not dropping below a 101 SC average in that
time. His hasn't been very relevant in SC in recent times, with people opting
against selecting Deledio as a straight midfielder. As the Tigers become one of
the better teams in the competition however, we must expect the star players to
rise to the occasion. Taggers got the better of Lids” in 2013 which hurt his
overall output. In fact, looking at his statistics, only his marks went up (by
0.1). An average of just 23.8 disposals tells me he was quite damaging with his
possessions, which would explain his decent SC average. With the rise of Ellis
and co, Deledio may receive less attention which can only be a good thing.
Deledio is a very good POD, but is he worth the price? That's up to you.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Dustin Martin
$549,200 - MID/FWD (2013 avg; 101.82)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Tigers supporters will be happy to know that Dusty and
the club are back on good terms, which is worrying for the opposition. His good
morale has translated into good form. Watch him tear the NAB challenge apart,
when he plays. He had a career best season in 2013 and will be looking to
improve more. His outstanding play up forward makes him such a valuable
commodity in SC and while he is known for his fadeouts in second halves, he
should be a lock in most teams. I think we will see similar statistics for
Dusty, with the addition of a few more goals and more tackles. Previously, he
has had too many broken tackles but with a change in attitude, we should see a
better showing on the defensive side of things. He is an expensive forward, but
one that is well worth it.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Bachar Houli
$493,800 - DEF (2013 avg; 91.55)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Houli may seem a little overpriced. 2013 was the first
season he averaged over 90. His average has always been solid, but last year
showed his true ability. As we know, Houli loves to kick and is very much an
uncontested specialist. His kicking efficiency is what helps his SC points. He
can influence the game with minimal disposals and he rarely misses games. You
can look at Hanley, Simpson and Hodge if you want, but for $20k cheaper, you'll
get someone who can produce a similar output. A definite POD option and one
that can help you early in the season.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;]<em style='mso-bidi-font-style: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;]Ignore[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Daniel Jackson
$499,200 - MID (2013 avg; 92.55)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Jackson had a fantastic 2013, surprising everyone with a
very successful, personal season. Although he averaged less time on ground than
he has over the last 5 years, he was able to have a major impact through the
midfield for the Tigers. Disposal efficiency has always been his downside and
while he kicked at only 57% efficiency, his increase in disposals and contested
possessions were the reason behind his outstanding SC season. In 2014 however,
he must be ignored. Over the past 5 seasons, he has averaged above 80 just
twice; 86 in 2010 and 93 last season. He starts this season off more expensive
than the like of Dayne Beams and Marc Murphy. Says it all really. Can't see him
averaging more than 85.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Nick Vlastuin
$405,200 - DEF/MID (2013 avg; 75.12)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]I am a massive fan of Vlastuin. He slotted straight into
the team in 2013, applying pressure on his opponents right from the start. He
was clean with the ball in hand and was able to get himself involved in scoring
chains more often than all defenders (bar one) at the club. Of course, the
second year blues are always a worry with the young players. One feels Vlastuin
is mature enough to overcome this mental state, but he is too expensive to
start in your team. While he should still have an impact on field for Richmond,
his SC scores won't vary too much from 2013 this season. Pass.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Ben Lennon
$162,300 - FWD (2013 avg; N/A)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]This may surprise a few people. The Tigers have given
their first round picks good game time in recent years and Lennon is said to be
arguably the most talented out of all draftees last season. All top rookies are
expensive this season, so Lennon's price comes at no surprise. Now the Tigers
are top 4 contenders, there aren't going to be many spots opening up in the
team. Lennon is still lightly framed and will probably be given time in the VFL
to get some solid game time before he is considered to be best 22. When he does
make his debut some stage this season, he is a prime candidate for the subs
vest. In the future, he will be a SC gun. He is extremely smart with footy in
hand and can play off any flank and a little through the midfield. 2014
however, he may be a miss.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;]<em style='mso-bidi-font-style: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;]Breakout
Contenders[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;]<em style='mso-bidi-font-style: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Reece Conca
$438,300 - MID (2013 avg; 81.25)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]In his first three seasons, Conca has been relatively
injury prone. He averaged just 91 minutes per game last season which is only
slightly less than 2012 and a bit more than 2011. He hasn't stayed on the
ground long enough to have a major impact. There were signs of improvement in
2013, where Conca moved into a midfield role. His Inside 50's, clearances,
tackles and goals all shot up as a result. He wasn't clean with ball in hand,
however the pressure of moving into the midfield may be the reason behind this.
There won't be much attention put on him, meaning his numbers should rise
steadily. Conca could get his average up to the 90-95 mark this season which
would be great for his price. Strongly consider him.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Shane Edwards
$421,600 - MID/FWD (2013 avg; 78.16)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]This time last season, I had ‘Titch' in the same
category. It didn't quite work out for him, but this could well be his season.
He spent a lot more time in the midfield, which hurt is disposal efficiency and
his scoreboard impact. With more midfield time for young Tigers, we should see
Edwards split his time between the forward line and midfield equally, as
opposed to more midfield (2013) or more forward (2012). Less pressure on him
will lead to an increased disposal efficiency, which really affected his scores
last season. The forward line is a little tricky this season. Edwards is
awkwardly priced but he is a risk that could pay off.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;][/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

<strong style='mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;][span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Chris Knights
$304,600 - FWD (2013 avg; 70.60)[/b]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]Not sure this is the right category for Knights, as his
breakout season was in 2007 for the Crows. Maybe this can be his resurrection.
Just as it appeared as though he locked himself in the Tigers best 22, Knights suffered
a horrific knee injury which cost him his season. It's something that has
affected him all throughout his career. He looked in solid touch from rounds 3
to 6, averaging 77 before his sub affected match against Port Adelaide. Again,
it's tough to break into a now strong Richmond line up. There will be a risk
that he gets the substitute vest. However, Knights adds class to the forward
line and his long kicking is a big feature of his game. Watch to see how he
goes in the NAB challenge and if he is named Round 1. If he is, he could be a good
mid-priced forward option and a definite POD.
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]
[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]There are a couple of players not listed here that are
still decent options. The main one people will be thinking is Brandon Ellis. He
starts the season around $440k which is very cheap given how good he was
without the sub vest. In his case, I'd just watch him in the NAB challenge (if
he plays) and look at reports to see how he is training. I have a feeling he
will receive a little more attention than people think. Still, if you feel he
is a good pick, go with your gut.

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px;]

[span style='color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri; font-size: 16px;]That's the Richmond preview done and dusted. Personally,
I think the Tigers will stay around the same mark this season. Top 4 seems a
step too far but trust me, I'll be thrilled if they do make it. A finals win is
the pass mark and with this group of players, anything is possible.
