Round 10, Round 10 - so close to MSD redemption (or damnation) yet so far away at the same time.

    Anyhoo, here's the review.

Marble Bar Misfits 1322 vs Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles 1300

Waikikamoocow just missed out on causing the upset in high-scoring game against the high-flying Misfits - 22 points the difference in the matchup.

Nine total tons across both teams, but what really stands out is the number of 80+ scores from the squads. So much depth - a fact borne out with each team's high scorer (Nic Nat for the Misfits, Mitchell for the Cows) racking up the points from the interchange bench.

Marble Bar retain third place on the ORFFA ladder with the win, while the Incorrigibles sit a mere game outside the top eight.

Wineglass Bay Packers 1203 vs Iron Knob Codpieces 1127

Tracey's Packers made it four wins from 10 games with another encouraging performance - a 86 point win over Iron Knob.

The youngsters are now starting to make an impact for Wineglass Bay - Ash, Keays, McGrath, Daicos, Weightman and Poulter all notable on the weekend. Liam Baker's 2021 continues to go from strength to strength, while Tom De Koning looks a real find.

Iron Knob would be bouyed by Macrae and Greenwood in the middle, Scrimshaw and Quaynor down back and old man Robbie in the forward line. However coach Jim would be looking for more from the likes of King, Mihocek, de Goey and Riewoldt.

Gundagai Grasshoppers 1482 vs Whitsunday Warriors 1265

The Hoppers bounced along at the pointy end of the ladder, almost breaching the magical 1500 point barrier in a comfortable win over the Warriors.

Clayton Oliver's lazy double ton spearheaded the insect swarm, which more than adequately covered for a forwardline doughnut. The Hoppers' backline notching nearly 450 by themselves.

The Warriors would've liked what they saw out of Quinton Narkle, who joined Kamdyn Mcintosh in scoring 115+. Beyond those two there were plenty of decent scores .... but countering Oliver's massive score proved a bridge too far for the Whitsundays.

Nareewillock Nuffers 768 vs Charlies Opening Spelunkers 1066

The Cave-dwellers overcame a shortage of available players to record a comfortable win over the Nuffers.

As is often the case, Zerrett and the Bont led from the front for the Spelunkers before adjourning to host their on high-rating FM breakfast show (appropriately also called Zerrett and the Bont).

Part of that last paragraph may not actually be true.

As for the Nuffers, coach TassieHawk has also adjourned after sterling service to the ORFFA cause, with some mug ex-coach stepping into the breach. Both eagerly await the return of Matt Rowell and a couple of Swans' youngsters, eagerly hope CCJ gets a game sometime somewhere and eagerly look forward to the fun of the MSD.

Gariwerd Cockatoos 1318 vs Foul Bay Chickens 1435

Ant's avians scored in bunches this week - in fact, scoring enough to defeat 13 other ORFFA teams. Regrettably for Ant, Foul Bay were not one of those teams.

In a high-scoring end to end game that rules tsar and all-round interventionalist Steve Hocking would have salivated over, the Chickens and the Cockies topped a combined score of 2750.

The Chooks midfield ran amuck like, well, headless chooks. Selwood, Liberatore, Cunnington and Kelly all scoring freely. Hawkins, Langford and Snelling cashed in on this dominance up forward.

Gariwerd enjoyed Touk Miller's continued fine form, Aaron Hall's renaissance and Laird and Houli's steadiness in defence.

Lovely Banks Lilacs 1024 vs Wagga Wagga Wombats 1071

In a low-scoring struggle that would have seen rules tsar and all-round interventionalist Steve Hocking change 57 different rules, the Wombats saw off a determined Lilacs team to move two games clear inside the top 8.

Simply put, there was not a lot between the two teams. The Wombats were able to eke a touch more out of their interchange players, as well as their half ruckman. Ed Langdon and Jordan Ridley top scored.

The Lilacs were left to rue a small patch of ground on the outer wing of a ground down Geelong way which came violently into contact with star Mitch Duncan's noggin. His ensuing concussion and subbing off probably robbed the flowers of a win.

Larrikin Lagoon Lefties 885 vs Nowhere Else Wanderers 1297

The Wanderers brought up win number 2 for season 2021 and in doing so played spoiler to our resident team of Lefties during the ORFFA's annual Left Footers Round.

The Wanderers' near 1300 score was anchored by Lyons and Seedsman in the middle, as well as gun youngster Tom Green. Aliir continues to enjoy great season in defence, and WHE topped 100 in the forward line.

The Lefties remain in development mode, with all manner of youngsters all over the park. Ladhams' 95 and Hardwick's 97 were among the best scores, while Griffin Logue's 86 would, I imagine, be a welcome sight for coach KI Guy.

Venus Bay Vultures 1326 vs Cradle Mountain Devils 1256

The Vultures remain only one game off top spot after a narrow victory over the Devils in their Round 10 match-up.

It was another game where not a lot separated the two teams, though Buddy Franklin's return to big scoring form, as well as Bailey Dale's 'once in a blue moon' type game most likely proved the difference for the Vultures.

That said there were plenty of decent contributors across the park.

For Cradle Mountain, there's still plenty to like and plenty of scope for improvement (especially given Pendles' uncharacteristic sub 50-point score).

Hopper, Rich, Lever, Zorko and Heppell were among the best as the Tassie team sits at 6-4 and in sixth place.

Mount Beauty Uglies 1219 vs Birdsville Battlers 1070

The Uglies scored a vital win to remain in the Top 8, defeating the Battlers by 149 points.

Mt Beauty overcame the absence of defensive lynchpin Christian Salem to record a more than handy score - Balta's 115 in defence covering for the absent Salem, while Walsh, Petracca, Gawn and a couple of others did their bit.

Birdsville's effort was hampered by an injury to key forward Matt Taberner (22), with tons from Hunter, Hipwood, Cerra and Ryan not quite enough.

The Battlers will also have to battle on for the next few weeks without gun mid Adam Treloar, who has also been lost to injury.

@chris88 thanks for the write up and as I have mentioned via pm wish you luck as you maneuever the Nuffers to the promised land of a top 14 finish and hopefully well North of that in 2022 and/or further down the track.

Another inept display by the Nuffers where on the surface playing numbers were the key problem but digging deeper it is the ability of those on the park to average 75-80 that has been a much deeper frustration.

Hats off to the Cavemen @Bandit - 2 short and even taking away their top scorer (Bont is a champion, hope he wins the Brownlow) to even the numbers they would have been winners by around 150.

The Merrett and Bont duo were the reason I have always been confident the Tassie side would do well in their aggressive rebuild and their fine array of emerging talent in supporting roles should see the victors pushing for finals in the near future.

While my ORFFA coaching duties have concluded (and resultant therapy now commenced) I have the review duties for the next round and look forward to many of your sides having a shit week so that I can mock you appropriately and give a big get stuffed to the others.

Welcome back @chris88 , it's addictive this ORFFA thing. Once it gets its hooks into you there is no alternative but to go with the flow. Have the horrible feeling that the it will be the cows who suffer facing a full(ish) strength Nuffer side after the byes. BTW, any plans to rebrand the team?

Thanks Graeme - reckon the Nuffers will stay in their current home at the moment. Good for the local community, and remaining in Nareewillock ensures the players still know how to get to training.

Thank you Chris. You have taken on a daunting task.

Pulling consistent 1200s now, but can't move off the bottom. Weird game this.
