Round 17 (AFL 20) … Left Footers Round The fifth year running for this theme. If only we'd trademarked the naming rights three years ago, we'd be moderately wealthy. Goofies are celebrated this week for good reason, they rock! http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-02-08... Lovely Banks Lilacs v Gundagai Grasshoppers Marble Bar Misfits v Gariwerd Cockatoos Venus Bay Vultures v Wagga Wagga Wombats Larrikin Lagoon Lefties v Foul Bay Chickens Iron Knob Codpieces v Mt Beauty Uglies Cradle Mountain Devils v Nunawading Nuffas Birdsville Battlers v Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles Charlies Opening Spelunkers v Whitsunday Warriors Wineglass Bay Packers v Darraweit Guim Dirigibles Last round of the season before finals, last round to decide those finals bound, and for those tanking for draft picks, we will be running the Zac Dawson Cup again this year also.
The Misfits look remarkably like this for their final "real" hitout of 2016. Looking for serious improvement next year, one can only remain shit for so long and maintain fans and sponsors DEFENDER Zachary Williams, Daniel Rich, Rory Laird, Adam Tomlinson () MIDFIELDER Callan Ward, Josh Kelly, Luke Dunstan, Lachie Whitfield (Matthew Kennedy) RUCK Shaun Hampson () FORWARD Devon Smith, Caleb Daniel, Joe Daniher, Josh Bruce () INTERCHANGE Michael Hartley, Lachlan Weller (Andrew Phillips)
Wagga Wagga Def: Macmillan, S.D.Thompson, Dempsey, Sheppard (Impey) Mid: Gibbs, Griffen, Picken, Oliver (R.Davis) Ruc: Lycett Fwd: Franklin, Jenkins, Crozier, J.Cripps (Sicily) Int: Sheed, L.Thomas (Everitt) IN: Oliver, J.Cripps OUT: Shiel (groin), M.Jones (omitted)
Cradle Mountain’s Round 17 (ORFFA) team In: T Boyd Out: T Nankervis (omitted), Def: N Vlastuin, L Spurr, J Lever, S Gilbert (N Smith) Mid: S Pendlebury, S Grigg, D Zaharakis, J Gresham (J Redden) Ruc: J Roughead Fwd: D Zorko, S Johnson, T Membrey, D Petrie (J Walker) Inter: T Boyd, H Himmelberg (T Nankervis) Even if it harms their draft prospects the Devils want a win which would enable them to improve their all-time ORFFA home and away record to 42 wins, 42 losses and one abandoned. Surely then the Devils would have demonstrated that they have mastered the art of being mediocre and can attempt to step up a level and becoming better than mediocre. Expect the game against the Nuffers to be decided by less than 100 points.
Lefties load up for the biggest "Investigator Strait Shit-fight" by unveiling........SCOOTER!!!!!! (We had almost forgotten we still had this inaugural player on our list). In - Scooter and just about every defender on our books. Out - a couple of guys who arguably didn't even deserve a bench spot. True. We can't claim top spot, but a psychological victory becons as we roll into ORFFA finals. Def - Gibbo, Haynes, Fisher, Bugg (Duryea) Mid - Mitchell, Lewis, Priddis, BJ (Smith) Ruck - Goldy Fwd - Joey, Lynch, Wells, Hill (Taberner) I/C - Langford, Scooter (Lloyd) Go your hardest Chief.

Not sold on team selections at all this week so this is what's been saved in TS Leagues for now. Still short on defenders - need Adams and/or Saad to come back - but do have 9 forwards to choose from for some reason: IN: Cooney, Hrovat (for his debut for the Guim nearly 14 months after arriving) OUT: Hill (reluctantly), Walters DEF: Rance, May, McDonald-Tipungwuti, Byrne-Jones (Stratton) MID: Coniglio, Newnes, Tyson, Young (Hill) RUCK: Nicholls FWD: Harvey, Lyons, Cooney, Hrovat (Walters) I/C: Brown, Ceglar (Greenwood) If anyone had said at the start of the year that my Round 20 forwardline would feature Lyons, Cooney and Hrovat (and not Walters or Shane Edwards) I'd have checked their temperature. Good luck Tracey - you're in with a massive show this week given the team you've named.
The travelling Cows muster a few to keep the Battlers honest. Hearty congrats to ROB for what should be his debut; it is nice that one of our four rucks is available D - J McGovern, J McVeigh, H Taylor M - D Hannebery, T Mitchell, B Crouch, N Graham R - R O'Brien F - D Menzel, M Robinson, T Papley*, B Griffiths I - J Dunkley* During our visit to Birdsville we are looking forward to a few quality reds JC - recommendations?
Other than some locally produced anti-freeze , we do make regular trips along the Birdsville Track and Outback Highway down to the Barossa and generally lug a healthy selection back with us. Got a couple of bottles of the 2012 Ron Thorn Shiraz from down that way - best red at last year's International Wine and Spirit Competition. Otherwise, we do keep a good selection of QLD wines on hand as well and the Nebbiolo from Ballandean Estate may take your fancy.
Spelunkers Team... been ravaged by General Soreness Def: Shane Savage, Luke Brown, Phil Davis, Oscar McDonald (Darcy Tucker) Mid: Marcus Bontempelli, Kieren Jack, Stephen Hill, Ryan BASTINAC (Adam Oxley) Ruck: Mark Blicavs Fwd: Zac Merrett, Jack GUNSTON, Mark LeCras, Ben Keays *OOP Int: Andrew Swallow, Blake Acres (Shaun Atley)
Just travelled back through this (Ballandean) neck of the woods and can concur, some great stuff to mull over. Can recommend Pyramids Rd Merlot as an acceptable swill.
Thanks JC, much appreciated. It is interesting the differences in the ANZAC cultures - e.g., you guys have the salvos, we have the sallies. A good mate who used to have a smallish vineyard reckoned that in a good year he made a decent paint stripper. Anti-freeze equivalent I guess. Is Ron Thorn connected / related in some way to the Thorn Clark brand whose Shotfire Ridge was often a decent example of a Barossa shiraz? Nothing like some wine suggestions to get the ORFFA radar to hum.
Good luck to all those hunting finals spots, consolation to those not, the Zac Dawson Cup is your next aim
The Lovely Banks/Gundagai matchup sees both teams around the 1250 mark. One would think that 2017 may see these two teams make significant further strides.
with a finals spot guaranteed for the first time ever, I think Gariwerd have relished the pressure-free game and come out firing!
That's good to hear Ant. Some members of my mob played like rubbish. Desperately need a back man to return, and have to find a replacement for Sideshow Brown. A potential 1300+ ended up about 1255 or so .... Oh well.
