<p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]The board of the newly inaugurated Serengeti Buffaloes is proud to introduce the regions first ever AFL club. <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;] <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]Region <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]Serengeti is a geographical region located in northTanzaniaand extends to south-westernKenya that spans some 30,000km2. It is this border crossing that has created some heated conflict between the two nations with the AFL club choosing Tanzania as its home over the more affluent Kenyan side of the border. <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;] <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]The Buffaloes <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]The Serengeti hosts the largest terrestrial mammalmigrationin the world, which helps secure it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and one of theten natural travel wonders of the world. The Serengeti is also renowned for its large lion population and is one of the best places to observe prides in their natural environment. However the board decided to go with the nickname Buffaloes after community consultation and hope that the spelling would confuse visiting clubs. <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;] <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]History <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]Much of the Serengeti was historically known to be part of the most wildness place in Africa. TheMaasaiare the traditional inhabitants of the land and are known as fierce warriors, and live alongside most wild animals with an aversion to eating game and birds, subsisting exclusively on their cattle. It is this ferocious spirit which the club hopes to build its foundations on. Historically, their strength and reputation kept the newly arrived Europeans from exploiting the animals and resources of most of their land. The greatrinderpest epidemicand drought during the 1890s greatly reduced the numbers of both Maasai and animal populations. The Tanzanian government later in the 20th century re-settled the Maasai around theNgorongoro Crater which is where you will find the home ground of the Buffaloes just by Lake Magadi which provides the setting for perfect after match entertainment. <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;] <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]Climate <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]Playing climates in this great land is something the board hopes will provide great advantage to the Buffaloes with altitudes in the Serengeti ranging from 920 to 1,850 metres and mean temperatures varying from 15 to 25 degrees. Although the climate is usually warm and dry, rainfall occurs in two rainy seasons: March to May, and a shorter season in October and November. Rainfall amounts vary from a low of 508mm in the Ngorongoro Highlands to a high of 1,200mm on the shores of Lake Victoria. <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;] <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]Future <p style='line-height: 14.4pt;]The Serengeti is already famous for being the inspiration behind the animatedDisneyfeature filmThe Lion Kingand housing theNgorongoro Conservation Area, which contains theOlduvai Gorge, where some of the oldesthominidfossilsare found and the board hopes to add to that list with a successful AFL club as we look forward to an exciting ORFFU competition.

It has become apparent through recent media appearances by the club president that the main rivals of our beloved Serengeti Buffaloes will clearly be the Banchang Barcrawlers. In an interview published in the Buffaloes most recent publication of club magazine The Stampede, the president was recorded as saying 'I can't understand why those jokers over in Thailand were even given a license. We have been pushing for international expansion for a long time and have been the front runners in professional progress of our great game outside of Australia.' <p >It was evident the president felt the Buffaloes should have been the sole recipents of an international license, 'Of course we should have. We were the only club worthy of showcasing the AFL on international shores and we look forward to showing that when we meet for the first time despite being disappointed that further injustice was dished out by not being able to host the inaugural match between our two clubs.'

The rivalry promises to be a hotly contested battle for years to come and in recent news, it has been announced that the winners of each match played between the two offshore clubs will be rewarded with the The Offshore Outer Regional Fantasy Football Trophy (OORFFT)

In a delayed edition (due to issues getting publication materials to the town) of the club magazine, editor-in-chief of The Stampede caught up with the chairman of the Buffaloes to release exclusive information through the clubs primary source of info to their fans. Editor: Thanks for taking the time to chat to us. We understand you are ready to announce the inaugural captain of the club? Chairman: That's right. It is with great pleasure that we present to our loyal fans the first ever captain of our proud club E: Would you like to share his name? C: Oh yes, sorry. The first ever captain of the Serengeti Buffaloes will be Patrick Dangerfield E: (Cheers) A popular choice I am sure, are you worried about his relative youth? C: We think Patrick is an impressive young man who is already taking the game by storm and will only go to new heights with this new role. We are looking to build a club that has sustained success and with Patrick leading the way we envision he will be a part of that for at least the next 10 years E: Exciting times ahead. All clubs like to reward the greats of their teams, do you have plans for specific awards to be introduced? C: For sure. We went through a process to name our best player of the year award and after close consultation with the community we boiled it down to two options. An early popular cry in and around training and practice games has been 'Go the Buff!' which inspired the naming option 'The Buff Best Man' but due to some unfortunate incidents where too many community members misinterpreted the catch cry it was scratched from the list E: An unfortunate incident. So we now have a name for our top award? C: Yes. Our best player of the year will be judged after voting in each game is awarded on a 3-2-1 basis in accordance with the top scores for that round. The player with the most votes at the end of the season will be judged to be the best player and awarded The 'Geti Gong E: And we hear on the grape vine there is an announcement on an extra award to be presented once a year? C: You have heard right. Due to a growing rivalry between us and the other 'club' outside the borders of Australia we have decided to recognise a player each of those games by awarding 'The Overseas Monarch Medal' to the player judged to have best typified our feeling of superiority over the barcrawlers E: That's sure to add to an already spiteful contest. Thanks very much for giving us some of your valuable time and we look forward to catching up with you throughout the season C: Welcome Well there you have it. Patrick Dangerfield will be the club's first ever captain. The best player each year will receive The Geti Gong and in an intriguing addition, The Overseas Monarch Medal will be presented to one player from the Buffaloes each time they come up against there outside Australian counterparts, the Banchang Barcrawlers

After seeing 4 different players post the highest scores across the first 4 weeks of the season and only 1 player (Paul Chapman 1 vote twice) polling in more than 1 match so far we have a very even looking leaderboard for The 'Geti Gong at the completion of 4 rounds. The 'Geti Gong leaderboard 3 Brendon Goddard 3 Tom Hickey 3 Luke Dunstan 3 Cameron Guthrie The club is very impressed by the depth and evenness of the squad represented by the polling so far and believes it points towards a bright future for the mighty Buffaloes.

An incredible individual effort from captain Dangerfield of 192 singlehandedly dragged the Buffaloes across the line in Round 5, smashing the previous individual high score of 143 set by Luke Dunstan just 2 rounds prior. In the process, Dangerfield became the 5th different round top scorer keeping this intriguing streak going that has seen a new top scorer for each week of the season. In a week of massive individual scores we saw the previous high mark also beaten by the next two top scorers with Marc Murphy pumping out 153 and Jamie Elliott 145 which was enough to cover the 0 provided by Shane Savage and the lack of bench cover in the mids for the Buffaloes to run out victors over the Barracudas 1364 to 1225. Great win by the boys at home in the crater this week. To be fair on the opposition a lot of their stars did not really turn up on the day with rumors a few of the Monarch leaders had never before travelled to Africa and were a little scared of the night time sounds heard across the plains.
Brendon Goddard returned to the team with immediate impact as he equal top scored with our young forward star Jamie Elliott who has been lighting up this season and showing improvement not even the most optimistic of Buffaloes supporters were expecting. Billy Longer came in for the injured number 1 ruckman Tom Hickey and although he did not have his best game he provided adequate backup which left only Travis Varcoe on the chopping block who by all reports went to sleep after half time and left supporters wondering whether or not he actually emerged from the changerooms after the long break.
All in all a successful weekend and despite some underwhelming preseason predictions, the boys head into a well deserved break over the bye rounds, sitting nicely on 5-2 and looking forward to what the rest of the season could hold.
    &amp;lsquo;Geti Gong voting
Seventh round and, you guessed it, seventh different 3 vote getter. There was some controversy this week as we saw 2 players tie for the top score for the first time but after blowing off the dust from the clubs constitution it was discovered in a sub-clause that a forward, defender or ruckman would be given the nod ahead of a midfielder when scores were tied.

An active mid season break has seen 4 changes to the Buffaloes list. The biggest change which was sure to raise a few eyebrows was the trade that sent current 4th pace holder in the 'Get Gong' medal voting, Brendon Goddard, off to Pakenham in exchange for Jared Polec. We caught up with the club president to get his explanation on the intriguing trade. 'We went through a thorough and at times painful analysis of our list as a whole and despite the impressive start to our inaugural season the club thought it best to invest in the future. While that meant we would see an initial drop in performance we believe that Jared will provide excellent service to the club for many more years and will be hitting his peak as our list matures together for a comprehensive attack on the premiership in the coming years. In our second trade we lost a promising young defender but felt as a club we had some depth in this area and were able to use that to improve our young midfield stocks in welcoming Anthony Morabito to the club.' Full details of mid season list changes are summarised below: Out[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] In Brendon Goddard (trade to Pakenham)[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Jared Polec (trade from Pakenham) Jimmy Webster (trade to Christmas Island)[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Anthony Morabito (trade from Christmas Island) Shane Savage (delisted)[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Martin Gleeson (MSD round 1 pick) Scott McMahon (delisted)[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] [span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Sam Colquhoun (MSD round 2 pick)

Round 11 saw the Buffaloes come out of the bye hibernation period like they were still away with the fairies. Some well below average scores, most notably from the prized new recruit, made for a tight struggle against the Blowflys at Korrumburra who had previously only managed to scrape together the 1 win. It was up to some of the clubs more senior players to bring it home in the last quarter and Shannon Hurn did not disappoint pumping out a personal season PB of 111 to get the Buffaloes home by the smallest of margins against the extremely unlucky Blowflys and keep the season ticking over at a very nice 6-2 record. Final scores: Serengeti Buffaloes 1210 def 1209 Korrumburra Blowflys

A second consecutive week of low scoring by the Buffaloes was offset by an inexperienced Cow Bay outfit that provided the opportunity to for the Serengeti side to post their 5th straight win.Despite only 1 player from the Buffaloes cracking the ton, in encouraging signs for the future the top 3 scorers all came from rookie players including new recruit Jared Polec pumping out a 99. All in all a solid at best performance but another win on the board which solidifies Serengeti's place in the top 4 and with a generous draw to close out the season and the early return of a few injury affected players could see some suprises when the whips start cracking later in the season. Final Scores: Serengeti Buffaloes 1110 def Cow Bay Crocs 999

It's time for the big one. This weekend will see the very first battle for theOFFSHORE OUTER REGIONAL FANTASY FOOTBALL TROPHY. There has been speculation in recent weeks that low scores by the Buffaloes have been due in part to the resting/managing of players to ensure they are in tip top shape for this encounter. Adding fuel to that fire is the fact that Serengeti have waited until this match to unveil their star forward recruit Colin Sylvia. Speculation aside, one thing is certain, that the boys will be firing on all cylinders for this one as they look to continue their impressive start to the season and get in first bragging rights over the offshore impostors. At the conclusion of the match, the voting committee will award the inaugural Monarch Medal to the Buffalo they decide exemplified the true spirit of superiority we feel over the Crawlers from Banchang.

In an exclusive for 'The Stampede', we can reveal that after a few weeks of silence, the Serengeti Buffaloes have re-surfaced for the first time since their cup win in the first ever OFFSHORE OUTER REGIONAL FANTASY FOOTBALL TROPHY match. Due to the extended silence (and recent non-performances) it was wondered whether anybody from the club had actually returned from the celebrations in Banchang. We caught up with the club president to put our passionate fans at ease.
'The win over Banchang was a monumental occasion. We publicly said at the start of the season that we were unhappy with the situation so to go over there and bring back the cup was very rewarding. In hindsight we probably went a little overboard with the celebrations and it has taken a while to recover but as a club we feel that we are back on track and fully prepared for what the rest of the season holds.' Lost in the midst of all the euphoria and celebrations, was the fact that the first ever recepient of the Monarch Medal was announced. Shannon Hurn was desperately unlucky not to take home the Buffaloes first ever official accolade but the honour was bestowed upon young Bradley Hill. The pres again, explaining the decision; 'When this medal was announced it was pointed out that it was not just for the best player from our team on the day but the one who best exemplified our feeling of superiority over the Barcrawlers. Bradley would be the first to admit that his form had dropped off in recent weeks but the added confidence he was able to play with knowing that he was coming up against an inferior opponent was a perfect representation of what we envisioned this medal rewarding.' Unfortunately the performances on-field have not been as positive since the cup win but with a couple of matches against lower ranked opponents before a tough couple of weeks to finish the season, the Buffaloes can still look forward to an exciting remainder of season 2014

Round 16 brought another disappointing loss, this time to the Whalers of Eden as the young Buffaloes continue to tire as the long season draws on. The match did see an improved performance and despite the loss there were some encouraging signs with Anthony Morabito making his debut for the club, Ricky Henderson playing his first match in the reserves and 3 of the top 5 scorers coming from players under 23. At the other end of the scale Colin Sylvia can count himself fortunate there is a current lack of depth in the Serengeti forward line, Patrick Dangerfield had yet another injury affected game as clubs seek to hunt down that particular Buffalo every single week and Brett Deledio delivered another underwhelming performance.

With a young crop developing in the middle of the ground continually improving the future looks bright for years to come as they become ready to stand up and support the rest of the ground.

Further evidence of the improvement shown over the last month was seen with the 3rd consecutive week of increased scores and 4 players topping the ton for the first time in 6 weeks. Colin Sylvia continues to struggle coming to grips with the new surrounds of the 'Geti while Anthony Morabito is starting to show glimmers of why he was brought to the club during the mid-season draft period. A welcome return to form from club captain Patrick Dangerfield and fan favourite Paul Chapman was very warmly received by the local fans which has once again raised hopes of a possible finals appearance.

The planned Christmas event for the inaugural 'Geti Gong voting night had to be hastily brought forward due to some intriguing board decisions that has seen a high volume of turnover after a solid but ultimately underwhelming performance by the club in the first season of the newly formed ORFFU. From halfway through the year it was clear that this would be a race in two with Captain Dangerfield fighting it out with Marc Murphy to see who would be crowned the first ever club champion for the Serengeti Buffaloes and receive the coveted 'Geti Gong. The count went right down to the wire with both players in contention up until the final round of voting but a solid last game saw Marc Murphycrowned the champion. Dangerfield finished 5 votes adrift after a disappointing final round with a number of the clubs youngsters filing in behind their two leaders in a promising sign for the future. Top 5 finished as; 1st[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Marc Murphy [span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] 20 votes 2nd[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Patrick Dangerfield 15 votes 3rd[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Cameron Guthrie [span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] 8 votes [span style='background: #ffffff;]3rd[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Luke Dunstan [span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] 8 votes 3rd[span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] Brett Deledio [span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] 8 votes The night was held under a tinge of sadness with a number of the clubs list jetting off after just one season as the board look to re-structure the side to be a more competitive beast into the future. Club board members advised that announcements would be made in the coming days that would explain some of the bold decisions that had been made
