Team: Viking Quest
Round 10 Score: 2234
Overall SuperCoach Ranking: 923
Cash stashed $241,500
Trades left: 11

BACKS

Rd 10 Scores: H. Shaw (31), Mattner (129), Roughead (88), Gilbee
(135), C. Cornes (57), Goddard (147), Ibbotson (71), Myers (66), Proud
(0)

This week saw the advent of a number of VQ (Viking Quest) players
finally repay the faith shown in them by their coach. This was the week
where undoubted quality such as Gilbee and Goddard
finally showed some form. Whats more important is that both players
games were recognised by Champion Data with rankings of 135 and 147
respectively.

My advice is if you need a quality defender who is under the odds, then you cant go past either of these two. In particular Goddard, who amassed 28 possessions at a whopping efficiency of 98%. Goddard is elite for efficiency, and has been for a number of years now (90% in 2007 for the 7 games before injury). Gilbee was great on the weekend but has been the subject of recent tags (and may get Birss on him this week) and like Heater Shaw (31) and Johnscock (48) has struggled with them, so on that basis Id recommend Goddard, especially before his price jumps.

The Chad was disappointing for VQ on the weekend. Hes still
only playing with one hand and a lot of the time is seen trying to
tackle, smother and fend-off with his good hand. This unnatural way of
going about it is obviously hurting his effectiveness. It should be
noted that a broken bone in the hand is an 8-week injury, so his form
should improve in coming weeks. If youve got him, then hold him as
its not worth 2 trades (youll be looking to get him back in) and if
you dont, then perhaps wait until after the mid-year break.

CENTRES
Rd 10 Scores: Ablett (157), Goodes (142), Scotland (104), Stevens (101), Priddis (98), Cotchin (62), Bird (56), Masten (0)

The VQ midfield performed well over the weekend with the exception of Cotchin (62). VQ pulled the trigger on Houli (117) and cashed-in with Cotchin
this round and was left with a deficit of 55 points. It’s not all bad
though as Wallet gave him some good TOG, and had in not been for some
poor efficiency early on, hed have managed a respectable 80+ points -
which in perspective is a good performance for a 3rd gamer against a
rampant Sydney at the SCG... Sure he runs a bit like Monfries,
but hes going to be a player. If you got him, then dont be too
concerned. He’ll only get better and I can see him spending more time
in the engine room as his fitness improves with each passing game.

RUCKS

Rd 10 Scores: Cox (155), Simmonds (26), Wood (0), Meesen (0)

The Rucks were bitter sweet on the weekend. Cox was amazing and dominated Fraser/Bryan combination with a score of 155, whereas Simmonds was abysmal with a score of 26. In Simmonds’
defence, he has been in good form and the small SCG probably didnt
suit his mobility and he was up against the in-form ruck combination of
the league (Jolly and Everitt). This is a reason Id be hesitant to pick Cox captain this week. Cox
amasses serious points for his effective hit-outs in addition to
possessions. This week hes likely accumulate possessions at Subiaco,
but will likely see a reduction in his hit-outs.

FORWARDS
Rd 10 Scores: Pavlich (89), Deledio (121), Porplyzia (87), Brown
(165), Rioli (27), Fevola (54), McKinley (22), Tippett (35), Gamble (0)

The VQ forward line performed reasonably this week with the exception of Fevola. What can you do with the Fev?
Hell likely end the season with a respectable average, but the
difference between a good and bad game can sometimes be extreme and you
just dont ever know what youre going to get. To be fair, the ball was
hardly down there in the 2nd half. Whats annoying about the him is
hed be averaging a healthy 10-20 extra points a week if he pulled his
head in... as in every single game his frustration (undiscipline)
leads him to give away free kicks and 50m penalties (clangers), which
are big points deductions.

One of the best performing forwards for VQ this week (besides Brown - hes back!) was Deledio.
He was one of the few shining lights against Sydney and Wallets
finally giving him free reign in the midfield... whilst still playing
forward (albeit to rest). If you havent got this guy, then you should.
With the plethora of inconsistent forwards, hes the most consistent
going around. Hes ranked #30 in the league and #6 as a forward... with
the likelihood to improve even more. Like Chapman can be picked as a forward, but unlike Chapman isn’t injury prone.

This week VQs getting rid of Gamble. VQ has money to burn and a big gapping hole in the forward line being unacceptably filled by either of the inconsistent Tippett or McKinley (How did he miss that goal on the weekend?). There are a number of trade options here, namely the in-form and fast improving Didak (Hell average 100 from here on end) and the ever-reliable Brad Johnson. However, Im not going to look past Riewoldt.
Hes justifiably one of the biggest stars of the game and also one of
the most difficult to match-up on. Hes been unlucky with injuries of
late, but at his current price, theres only one direction he can go. I
personally see a big improvement in the Saints and believe theyll be
there about come finals time... with Riewoldt leading the charge!

Oh doesnt that look good? Riewoldt in Viking Quest colors!

CAPTAIN CHOICE

Rd 10 Scores: (C)Ablett (157), (VC)Cox (155)

This week, VQs captain is Ablett. You cant look past
someone averaging 141 per game and his last two games against the Roos,
scores of 153 and 171 (In the finals), have been exceptional. Sure Rawlings
is a good tag, but at the Dome and with the Geelong team doing
everything in their power to win this guy a Brownlow medal, captain
choice is easy! His only blemish was at Fremantle against “Jazz-hands” Crowley… and I put that down to his team not working hard enough for him. Bomber Thompson made note of this that week too!

Cox was vice-captain last week, but has been demoted due to the match-up against the tall timber of Jolly and Everitt. So after reckless deliberation... Goodes
is man to step into the leadership group. I think the wide open
expanses of Subiaco will suit his game and whos going to match-up on
him? Staker has the mobility but not the fitness and smarts.
The guys in form, although probably a few game too early (if previous
seasons are any indication) and is back playing for a dominant team.
The Coasters will get rolled!
