Chels has a 2 hour head start on the rest of us.... Clearly an unfair New Zealandist decision, though he can only play by himself :p

Venus Bay's Jeff Garlett. I never thought I'd say this, or even think it, but I've got my hand very close to the veto button on this one unless I can be convinced otherwise. Sorry guys, it isn't anything personal, but Pick 3 in the PSD - someone like Martin, Hogan, Boyd or Aish - for Jeffie Garlett doesn't seem a fair trade. But that's just me. As was said in The Usual Suspects: 'Convince me ...'

Powlett Plains and Darraweit have agreed to a trade that will see Jesse Stringer and Pick 67 depart the Paddock for Kane Cornes. Darraweit wishes Jesse all the best - he is starting to make a mark and looks to be a part of Geelong's future midfield. However the Dirigibles just needed a spot of extra cover across the midfield whilst out youngsters matured, hence we grabbed the experienced Kane Cornes.

As was said in The Usual Suspects: 'Convince me ...' We have seen in previous years pick 2 in the draft doesn't always play, O'Rourke was ment to be a gun, only played 1 game.. The draft is a gamble, Garlett is 24 and showed major improvement this year although finishing the year off weakly. He is a forward as well which adds value. With Yarran/Betts on trade talks there is only scoring improvement to come for Jeff. Pretty sure Grav came up with Garlett for 3 as well. I see him having an advantage in the short-medium term. And me hopefully having a long term advantage, but that's a risk and I am willing to take it. A pick like #3 can turn into a gun, or possibly ruin me by losing a forward as good as Garlett. Don't see how a veto is necessary at all, I thought it was a 100% fair trade, pretty sure Grav agrees but happy to be proven wrong... :)

Pick 3 in the coming draft for Jeff Garlett seemed an unbalanced trade. I am not for a second alleging anything dodgy or collusion or anything like that. Not for a second. But I wanted to hear more about it and the logic and reasoning behind it. I, personally still think it is a high price to pay. Missing out on a potential 10-12 season key forward in Hogan or Boyd for Garlett is a massive massive gamble. But if that's the trade then that's the trade. Best of luck. As an aside - there's a trade involving myself and Gravenger which is upcoming and which will probably raise some eyebrows. I know we are both keen to explain the reasoning behind it, so I'll get onto that in a second.

Larrikin Lagoon and Darraweit Guim have agreed to a four player trade as follows: LL trades: Stephen Coniglio, Nic Naitanui Darraweit trades: Ben Cunnington, Rory Thompson. I understand Gravenger will be putting forward his explanation of the deal when he next hops on the forum, but for now I'll put forward my reasoning. I was reluctant, very reluctant, to part with Ben Cunnington. Top flight draft pick, has double his average to almost 100 since 2011, young, contested ball specialist - will average 110 next year with little problem I feel. Was going to lead my midfield from 2014 onwards. Rory Thompson was a reluctant trade too. Vastly improved young KPD. Will be a bookend at the Suns for a decade. But on the other side of the coin - I needed a ruck. I found out this year that having one ruck isn't going to cut it. Maric didn't play a couple of weeks and there were a few games he was below 100%. I didn't want to have to play OOP guys in the ruck, and I couldn't be 100% assured that Ty Vickery will be a ruck/forward next year (though he should be). So Nic Nat is worth a fly, even with his injuries. He has the potential to average 110 a game and is likely to be a forward as well as a ruck. Coniglio has been a little underwhelming, especially this year. I think he'll improve though and hopefully can help fill the gap left by Cunnington at some stage. At the moment he averages about 70 a game - hopefully that rises. That's my side of the reasoning. I'm sure Gravenger will be able to offer more on why he did the trade. Best wishes to Cunnington and Thompson. I'll be watching their progress with a keen interest. Welcome aboard Coniglio and Nic Nat.

Can Gravenger walk? I knew people would undervalue Ben Cunnington. 2013 - 20 games, 96 SC average (and he was subbed off in one game). Last 8 games of the year he averaged 102 or something. I don't reckon many people would trade away a 22 year old midfielder averaging almost 100 in just his 4th year of footy. I certainly wasn't looking at doing so. But I need a ruckman and Nic Nat was offered. If Nic Nat doesn't get fit, I'm buggered - I've lost my future best midfielder for very little. Rory Thompson is a loss as well in defence, but I'm lucky to have young players to step up and replace him. Coniglio will hopefully offset Cunnington's loss - but he remains unfulfilled potential right now.
