It was a pretty good week for the donors, scoring 2,438 points, at a weekly ranking of 3,179. That moves our aggregate along to 45,301 and gives us an overall ranking of 7,408. So how did we get there?
Defence
H Shaw 164
B Houli 113
J Gibson 111
B Smith 108
K Kolodjashnij 86
L Hodge 60 (and hopefully rubbed out for weeks...)
Bench of N Malceski 68 and B Maynard 22.
A great start down back, with four tons, including a massive 164 from Cheater (who unfortunately wasn't our captain or VC). Houli, Gibson, and Smith also did really well, while Kolo was alright with his 68, and Hodge was completely dirty with his 60. Seriously, that bump - he could have broken Wingard's neck! I for one won't be sad about having to cover for Hodge for the next couple of weeks. Eski actually outscored Hodge, by 8 points, which is 8 potential points we missed out on.
Midfield
J Kennedy 129 (VC)
M Priddis 122
P Dangerfield 112 (Captain, 224)
N Fyfe 108 (and should have been rubbed out - bloody MRP doesn't have the b@lls to suspend the Brownlow favourite - it'll be tainted this year if he wins, that's for sure!)
S Pendlebury 106
C Ward 103
H Bennell 102
J Selwood 81
Bench of N O'Brien 88, J Nelson 37, and J Steele 0.
We started with JPK as the VC, and after seeing his 129, thought about it, but ended up sticking with Danger against Brissie, which didn't quite pay off. Still we had a lot of tons in the midfield this week, with everyone except for Ducky topping the 100. The big news was Fyfe, who we should be covering this week, and I for one am spewing that he's been let off yet again. Three despicable acts in the one year, and yet we're still thinking he's the best and fairest.... Excuse me for not understanding. Anyway, we wouldn't have made the move, but O'Brien on for Ducky would have given us an extra 7 points this week.
Ruck
N Naitanui 137
T Goldstein 116
Bench of M Cox 0.
Fantastic work by NicNat to come back after the passing of his mother, and have such a dominant game - somewhat helped by the fact that the opposition forgot to bring a ruckman to the game. Goldy on the other had had to face off against the tallest ruckman in the game, and still managed to put in a bloody good show!
Forward
R Gray 118
D Martin 111
M Bontempelli 92
L Dahlhaus 90
D Swan 88
M Gawn 69
Bench of R Knight 75 and J McGrath 0.
This was the line that let us down. Gray and Dustbin did their jobs well, while Bonts, Dahl, and Swan were all a little short of what we expect from them. Gawn on the other hand has really let us down after joining the side. Even Knight sitting on the pine outscored him by 6 points.
So, a Captaincy for Cheater would have been nice, and would have given us an extra 52 points. In defence we missed 8 points, in the mids we lost a further 7, and there were 6 points up forward. That's a total of 73 potential points we missed out on, which a little bit more hopscotch could have been 6 points more again.
Trades
Last week we dropped the Sydney pair of Parker and Mitchell, and brought in Ward and Dahlhaus. Seeing as neither of the Swans boys played, it was an instant points win for us, to the tune of 193 points. Its nice to still have some trades left!
For the round, our collective trades earned us an extra 1,071 potential points, and put $23,400 into our team value. For the season, these same trades have earned us a total of 7,548 potential points, and have increased our team value by a total of $1,063,600.
Looking forward to Round 22
We still have one trade left for the season, and with two rounds left for some general soreness”, its going to be a toss-up as to when we use it. In my view, the risk for the general is a little lower this year, as most teams still have something to play for, and dropping a game can cost them a rung or two on the ladder. It might be the first year in a long time that no team is locked into their position yet.
Because of this, and the benefits we can gain from having a trade up our sleeves, as many a team would have already burnt through all of theirs, I'd highly suggest heading over to the Donors Forum to help us decide who deserves a spot in the side. Maybe it will be someone coming in for Hodge, seeing as I just found out he's been given two weeks. Deserved more......
