2012 Ticker is open for business.

Those of you who were here last year will fondly remember The Ticker

Those of you who weren’t however, might need a quick refresher over the break!

The Ticker, accessed through the top bar there, while being a giant rainbow mess, is actually a method to follow which teams are leaking points, and to what position they are leaking them to.

It also allows you to track your teams byes (provided your team is entered into TS – I’m still working on the upload, but if you’ve manually entered your team in, you’ll find it loaded into the ticker automatically.)

Simply select which team you’d like displayed on the ticker, and it will show you exactly who you have playing against which teams!

What the ticker offers, is a visual representation of when players will be running into hot-streaks (which tend to co-inside with a rise in coinage), or when they will be heading to a cold-patch (and the loss in value that comes with that.)

Basically, it’s another tool at your disposal to maximise both points output (when selecting your rookies), and also value.

So check it out and enjoy.

I’m sure it’s my fault, think I’ve loaded my team but I can’t see it on the Ticker.

Also, does the Tracking opposition teams only work when Rd1 starts?

I auto-team upload still isn’t active for 2012, so you’ll need to manually put players on your team over on the stats page. (ie- see the “manage” button to the left of Ablett, hover over that and it lets you put him on your team!)

Opposition tracking won’t be available until after the round 1 lockout, since it’s only after that that we can actually see their teams.

    Got it working, thanks

How long does it take to upload onto the team section once a player is seleceted.

And can you remove them in a similar manner?

    Thanks

  5. walesy says:

Once the player is selected onto a team, they should automatically flow through to the ticker.

Just make sure you toggle your team on once you’re at the ticker.

And yeah, you remove them fro m your team in the exact same way.

Hi Walesy – I can’t remember if this is static or dynamic as the season progresses? ie does it update based on previous performances throughout the season?

in my excitement I forgot to say thanks for getting this up Walesy – I imagine you are seriously under the pump this time of year!

Just a point of clarification please. Which way are the points leaking. For example round 1 is Adelaide scoring well in the ruck or is GC scoring well in the ruck?

  9. walesy says:

DW, yep, it’s dynamic and will change over time as each week goes by.

I’ve got a plan to one day offer a shorter timeframe (as currently it’s over the last 10 weeks), so that changes can be spotted faster- but yanno, it’s on a long list of things!

As for the direction, read it like this.

In round 1, Adelaide is playing the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast leak a ton of points to opposition rucks, therefore, Adelaides ruck tick for that round is v.hot!

  10. walesy says:

Just to follow on from that, the next week, they play the doggies, who also leak a lot of points to rucks.

That said though, rucks tend to swing a lot based on the teams that have been played- ie, if a team plays against the 5 top scoring rucks within their 10 game period, of course it’s going to reflect poorly on them! – but for the most part, it doesn’t really happen like that as 10/17 teams is a fairly good mix for most. Other lines simply don’t have that issue though due to their being more than 1 player from that position in the game.

  12. Slightly O/T Walesy but do you know that when you select the 2011 stats, some of the players come up with their 2010 averages and also you can’t see as many stats as before. Is this intentional (the latter)?

  13. walesy says:

I’ll check it out mate- there’s a chance I might have blown away the calculated 2011 stats accidently without regenerating them while rolling the site over to 2012. :)

Started using the ticker halfway through last season and it pulled my year from disastrous right up towards the only semi embarrassing range! Will be making a lot more use of it this year. But Walesy, a question: do you think the accuracy of the ticker is more a function of the quality of each team’s players in each area or a function of game style? With so many new coaches, should you put less weight on the ticker compared to other considerations if there’s a new coach?

  15. walesy says:

I think that the ticker improves in accuracy as the year progresses. Case in point was the WA teams from last year, West Coast and Freo essentially swapped ticks as the year progress and one team go ravaged by the injuries.

But what was good was you could see that, and adjust based on the data, and adjust without any pre-conceived ideas (yeah, West Coast, they’ve started well, but they are the spoon team, they’ll give up points this week)

  16. Stampede says:

Thanks, Walesy. And yes, the fact that it’s dynamic and impartial (not taking into account the win/loss of the team, for example) has to be one of its selling points.

I can’t see where to search for my team name on this page:

    http://supercoach.heraldsun.com.au/topcoaches

Meaning I can’t get my reference number.

    Any help, please?

Ah yes, that option only becomes available after the first lockout has opened, until then however, your team is hidden from the rest of the world! :)
