The Dogs Best Buys.

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

This blog is getting more and more pointless cause most people are only trading injured players and are looking at the best player in there price range. So, this week we will look at Chappy who is out for up to four weeks, and I have him so I need to do the research myself.

Jesus ain’t back yet…

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Woohoo! Ablett will definitely be missing this week. Sorry Lucas, but this could mean the BrayDog’s Catters can keep pouncing there way up the SC ladder. But, his Brownlow chances are slowing.

Also, in other news that is a couple of days old, Stiffy is still unlikely to play, but my man Bock Choy wants him back. Of course he does, he got a 49 without the Stiff and him playing kick-to-kick. Haha. The Clinger is back, so Deledio owners, get worried. Chappy is out for up to four weeks now, have to look at trading now. Not so Goodes is out for three weeks just for those that are abit slow.

But no Ablett

Late Charge for $20,000?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

In recent weeks I have rocketed up the SuperCoach tables after falling to 255, but two 2200+’s and now two 23000+’s in a row and I’m sitting pretty at 29th. Thanks to finally picking decent captains, and having the best forward line ever. Imagine if I didn’t have Brown captain with his 24, Shaw with a 45 and BJ with his 39. And, what if I had Ablett? I’m one of the highest ranks with an Ablett-less team.

My team has been more consitent than Dan Cross, with no scores under 2000 all year and never getting over 2400. Lack of injuries have also been a blessing with Judd, Gamble, Richo, Johncock and Pavlich the only ones missing weeks for me… while Burton being the only trade due to a injury/supension, which worked out a beauty picking up Roo and Birdman getting an season ending injury. Other rippers was the downgrade of Brad Johnson for Richo just before his 177 then he has been on a roll since. But, my highest scoring player which I’ve had from day one is my favourite Crossy, what a legend. Disapointing trades included Stanton for Boomer before he went nuts, and Nicoski for Shaw when he was over $500k. Bloody hell.

Anyway, back to the reason why I’m doing this blog, my aim is to hit the top 10 before season’s end which I’m 166 points behind or 33.2 per round from now on. Very possible. Just will need alot of luck. My 2nd aim is to win the Geelong supporters table, I’m sitting 4th and need 171 or 34.2 per round. Another big possibly, but cause they are all Cats fans they have Ablett, and I don’t. C’mon Mark Thompson, we have Richmond this week, give Ablett one more week off. My 3rd aim, or dream is the overall top spot, and I would be getting odd of like 3,000,000-1 at the TAB, but it is possible. Sitting 584 away and needing atleast an extra 116.8 points per round, but we only have three differences in the middle and up forward being Judd/Ablett, Riewoldt/Stevie J and Richo/Murphy. So, lets hope Judd, Roo and ‘cho rip it up, while Ablett, Stevie and Robert struggle along. Cause I would imagine that there will be no stars down back that will make or break my chances.

Ok, I know its a wild dream, but am I in with a shot?

Review – Round 17

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

The weekend of the upsets, with sides from 2nd to 7th all losing, does anyone actually want that left-over top four spot? It’s like that terrible pasta your Mum cooked one night, but the left-overs just sits in the fridge cause no one wants it. On top of that I played my Joker this week. For those that have never heard of it, its a footy tipping rule, and you choose to play your Joker when ever and you get double tips that week, I tipped 3. Therefore 6 points. Go me. Lucky, I went better in SuperCoach…

Captain Consideration – Round 17 – The Blockbuster

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

With Ablett likely to be out for another big game against the Hawks, punters looking for value as their skipper this week have a few likely choices (and a few unlikely ones too). With ROK hitting some top form again, Pav, Pratt and Petrie scoring ridiculously highly, and Big Cox proving that he’s the best ruckman in the league despite carrying a right foot that’s as broken as buggery. I reckon there’s some games this weekend that will lend themsleves to unaccountable, high possession football – which is a fantasy footy coach’s dream. The Dogs and the Blues usually have pretty high scoring shootouts, the Cats and the Hawks should put on one hell of a show tomorrow night, and the Anzac Day rematch should be one to look out for too.

Dog’s Best Buys – The Chad Special.

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

The first time I have ever had a special Best Buys but basically I will look how much your going to get for a star that is out for the season (this case Chadwick) and see which are the best pick-ups depending on your kitty balance.

Chad…. your time is up

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008
Its finally
happened. The Chad is no more. With the surgeon’s knife poised those who have
stuck with the mighty DT warrior finally have to pull the pin, and there
are still over 45,000 owners. Given his rather savage price drop this could
be difficult for those with minimal trades and nothing in the kitty.

So with
Chad sitting at $295k – who do you pick up? Well there are options
galore (most are not worth looking at though), so here is my one
(maybe) line guide, in DT average points order:

Mackie – $363k -
rebounding defender in the best team in the country. Great option even if it
looks like a strong Geelong breeze will blow him over.
Wheatley – $392k -
rebounding defender in the worst team in the country and the most expensive
backman available. Only for those with "the minerals".
Bock – $366k – likes
playing kick to kick in the backline of Neil Craig’s "attacking" team,
laughable team, great DT defender option.
Bowden – $391k -
another expensive risk, although if he kicked rushed behinds rather than
handballed them…
Fisher – $373k -
awesome choice – 99 average over the past 7 weeks can not be ignored. His
parents are still wondering what they did wrong with Leigh.
McMahon – $350k -
who? 100 average for the past month.
Shaw – $303k – still
a premium defender even if he is a bit homophobic this year ("aarrgghhh
there is a man standing next to me").
Goddard – $342k -
tadgh kennelly’s slightly less injury prone Aussie mate.
Milburn – $332k -
had to wash the leather off his hands at quarter time last week after gathering
19 possies. Apparently used too much soap though with only 13 for the rest
of the match.
Johncock – $323k – a
smaller, cheaper version of Bock, you get what you pay for.
Brennan – $343k – 96
ave over past month with NO scores between 65 and 121, low correlation with
Heath Shaw for those looking to smooth out investment returns in a volatile
market….
Wirrpanda – $294k -
I like this bloke but wouldn’t even consider a west coast player
now
Guerra – $284k -
most over rated DT backman, let all the other suckers pick him, or at least wait
a fortnight for his impersonation of the Australian share
market.
Gilbee – $307k – not
having as good a year as last but class player that team mates look for. Lots of
owners point to that.
Birchall – $288k -
the smart mans Hawthorn DT defender, recommended for his consistent but
unspectacular DT scoring.
Bradshaw – $276k -
was 80k cheaper 4 months ago, injury concerns and the principle of his price
increase means I wouldn’t trade him in.
Drummond – $273k -
potential galore at this price, will he stay fit though? I reckon he is worth
the punt.
Hargrave – $347k -
51.3pt average for first 9 games, 97.8pt average for last 7 games, what the….?
Was worth $190k 7 weeks ago.

so out of all that lot who would i recommend. Well depends on your position:

Me first, I
have money!

If you have shares
in an oil company and want to spend that wealth on something other than a
mansion in the desert the obvious standouts are:
Mackie /
Bock and Fisher – all about $370k, all play that rebound defender for their
respective teams. My pick is Mackie but Sam Fisher with his 99 ave over the
past 7 weeks is flying like his team.

I wear a kilt
in the cold.

The discerning choices for those on a budget would
be Birchall (consistent, nothing big) and Drummond (with potential comes
injury risk). Whilst I don’t like Guerra his price is likely to plummet over the
next fortnight…..
