Confirmed I have Bulls come from behind to record a 1226 to 1224 victory - match report to follow tomorrow following post match celebrations

 

Vikings 1223 Vs Smugglers 1051 @DamoH ( Pirate Ship Cup? )

It was a tough 1st road trip for the Smugglers. A bout of concussion meant that Johnson was a late out, Menzel / White did not play and Dumont missed his flight. This meant Webster 62 got a run in the backs, there was no cover in the forwards so the Smugglers only played with 3 with Lids being sorely missed. Lever 52 stepped up in Dumonts place on the interchange bench. Smugglers never really got going with only Rischitelli 108 displaying some fine form posting the only ton but could have scored much higher if it wasn't for 20 handballs, Hartlett 97 laid 9 tackles putting on the pressure and Redden 90 also handball happy with 18 but serviceable with a limited preseason. Battle of the rucks Krezuer 62 should of rammed it home as he didn't have a opponent. Cannon Mckenzie 80 was the best in the backline. A lackluster performance in the forward line with a star studded line up Martin 86 Tippet 82 and Frenchman Lecras 81 disappointing but all grins from the Vikings as that forward line fired against us in our last meeting.

Vikings not having to travel 1st up served as a treat. Mitchell 127 stormed out the blocks 30 possessions 9 tackles and 3 goals. Viney 106 released from his tagging duties 32 possessions putting his head over the ball being rewarded with 4 free kicks. Greenwood 91 Picken 92 rounding out the midfield. Second year players Heeney 95 22 possessions a huge 9 marks with Mclean 90 22 touches 7 marks 3 tackles and 3 free kicks both leading the forward line. Grundy watched from the sidelines but crouch stood up oop with 96 but we could only take 48 of that. Birchall 92 Rampe 79 best of the backs but serious questions have to be asked of Roberton 52 Salem 66 as Biggs 118 ran riot in the reserves,

Is there still a match day tab avaliable on the tsLeague page that shows player by player scores for each team? It came in handy last year looking through it for potential POOYA nominations.

Round 1 Match Report - Staghorn Flat v Hughenden

In a low scoring affair the Bulls have prevailed by 2 points 1226 - 1224 over an unlucky Hughenden outfit. Hughenden are tipped to improve on their 12th place in 2015 whilst the Bulls will be gunning for their third straight finals series so this battle was a true 8 pointer.

Hughenden led the home side all day except for when it mattered most as the Bulls took revenge from their 104 point loss to Hughenden in the final round of 2015.

Despite no recognized ruckman the Prairie Dogs midfield in Ward, Jack & Shiel dominated their Bulls opponents clearly winning the battle 457 to 325, however this dominance didn’t equate to scoreboard pressure as Hawkins and Bruest were beaten on the day by Mackie and Duryea. Waite was too strong for Ibbotson with the erratic forward in vintage form.

For the Bulls it was the newbies who shone brightly with first round draft pick in Aaron Hall leading the Bulls with 29 touches and a couple of goals on his way to 129 points. Blair was creative up forward with 85 whilst experienced recruits Griffen and Swallow were serviceable albeit outgunned on the day. Lynch was excellent up forward in Roughy’s absence and has been cleared by the match review panel. Leader Rocky was clearly short of a gallop and we look forward to him improving over the coming weeks.

The decision not to play a ruckman proved costly in the end for Hughenden as Kyle Langford manfully when up against Big Boy McEvoy however he was outpointed on the day.

The locals celebrated the win with gusto as the 4 day easter weekend dragged on into Tuesday night training.

Next week sees the Bulls travelling to Blanchetown as they seek more revenge for their narrow Elimination Final loss that ended their 2015 campaign. For Hughenden they return to the comfort of home as they take on Southern Cross who eked a win out over Pakenham in another tight encounter.

Round 1 Korumburra Blowflies (1202) v Pearcedale Panthers (1314)

The Panthers brought their A game to the Terrordome and caught the Blowflies napping in round 1, walking away with an easy 112 point victory. In what could be his final season for Korumburra (though we've been saying this for years now) Corey Enright (101) was rock solid in a defense bombarded by forward entries from the midfield dominance of BOG Luke Parker (161) and the grunt work of Josh Caddy (116). Up and comers Mav Weller (100) and Ben Kennedy (115) also linked up well and helped post a handy score for Pearcedale.

Kade Kolodjashnij was a mysterious late out for the Panthers (word around K-Town was that he hurled some serious sledges over the boundary line towards a disgruntled meathead forward by the name of Trav Cloke (19) during his dismal performace in the 2's. Rumour has it KK was found badly beaten in the carpark shortly before the first bounce in the seniors. His absence was ably covered by arguably the best defense in the ORFFU in Heath Shaw (87) and Josh Gibson (85) Brodie Smith (94) and Matt Rosa (105)

Last year's Big Tap and BAFFU winner Todd Goldstein (126) started off the new season as he finished the last, with a dominant display in the ruck, supported by captain Rory Sloane (96) and the modern day prototype ruck rover Mark Blicavs (123). It wasn't enough though as Korumburra had too large a gap between there best and worst players on the day. Johannisen (130) rebounded like an animal and Steve Johnson (96) was everywhere forward of the centre but it just wasn't enough against a solid team effort from the Panthers.

Korumburra selection commitee wil be looking at making some changes this week with Jack Lonie and Angus Brayshaw putting their hands up. Big Trav might have to wait a while...

 

Down at The Lagoon the Blowflies are on their way to a certain victory at 2/3rds time.
Cow Bay is sitting on 494/6/82.3 (not including 4 donuts) trailing the visiting Blowflies who are at 604/8/75.5.
Brayshaw has let down the Blowflies with a 36 whereas Toyd's effort (52SC) still hasn't lived up to the expectations placed on him after being acquired for pick 2 at the end of 2014.

17/30th time at Flying Fish Cove Park sees the Smuggglers holding a narrow lead 708/9 (78.6) to 652/8 (81.5).

Dusty Martin leads all comers with 134, ably supported for CIFC by Harbrow (105) in defence and the returning Grigg in the midfield (106).

Brandon Ellis (109) has been the shining light for Pearcedale, racking up plenty of possies, while a rejuvenated Kennedy has lead the forward line well with 105.

In what is an arm wrestle, the Smugglers look certain to pay the price for coach Damo's inability to read team-sheets, naming the non-playing Hartlett in the mids with no emergency. This is likely to be further compounded by Menzel's likely non-start up front.

Can 13.5 Smugglers beat 15 Panthers? Almost definitely not, but if they do many a shanty will be sung about this day.

 

Well at 3qtr time the Bulls and Bunyips have a cracker on their hands. Currently the Bunyips lead 1090/13 ave 83.84 over the Bulls 627/8 ave 78.37.

With some massive scores already to Lynch (129) and Hall (124) for the visitors have negated the home team champions in Laird (127) and Ziebell (127).

This is gonna be close!

 

Score update from Pakenham sees the visiting team just easing into it giving the home fans a false sense of hope.
Avg scores from a few Parasites players haven't helped the cause. Barlow letting us down again, two weeks in a row has the coach fuming.
The Cudas are lead strongly by Zorko the greats excellent game and with lots of quality still to come the home fans are already heading for the local to drown their sorrows.

Bunyips 1283 Def Bulls 1274.

What a fantastic match and a two teams that scored highs and lows. With Sam Mitchell (Bunyips) leading the way with 144 points closely followed by Griffen 132 (Bulls) and Lynch 129 (Bulls).

Both teams had some real dismal scores with Atley's 30 (Bunyips) only just pipped by the Bulls' Ibottson on 23. A great match, thanks for the challenge mate!

 

Poor internet here at Hughenden but it appears the home side has snuck home to retain the Veto Cup from the Sandgropers. Comprehensive match report to come.

 

Not sure of the final margin but a competitive match at the least.
