So we’ve done our NRL tips for the week (http://www.tipbetpro.com/#!current-round/kzu9o) and turned our focus to scanning through the SC stats from tooserious to look for some bargains.

The first step is to work our who you might want to get rid of – but I’m going to address JJ in the Best Buys as I’m sure a few of you have him.

Now last week I played it safe with my Buy of the Week, picking Ablett is a no brainer most years – this week we are picking a guy in just 3% of teams.
His average has steadily risen the from 2013 to now (53, 76, 87 and now 104), and his price should still go up a little bit more this year even if he doesn’t improve that 2016 average of 104.
I am of course talking about the 4th highest averaging defender (3rd if you excluded JJ) – Mr Sam Docherty.
As a defender his average of 104 is solid, and with a price tag which will leave you with change from 500k, is well worth the cash (admittedly you’ll need 30k in the bank to trade JJ to him).
How will he do against the winless Fremantle? Well someone has to win…

    Again, the format below is:
POSITION Name (CLUB) – current price (expected increase) – AVERAGE

    DEFENDERS
DEF Tom Ruggles (GEE) - 102k (+38k) - AVG=59 (on the bubble this week and has shown promise in games to date, hopefully keeps his spot with Enright to return)

DEF Josh Wagner (MEL) - 122k (+37k) - AVG=62 (On the bubble and performing well but long term job security questionable with numerous Melbourne prospects performing well in the twos)

DEF Ciaran Byrne (CAR) - 124k (+42k) - AVG=67 (On the bubble, good average and reasonable job security with Carlton looking set to stick with youth)

DEF Darcy Byrne-Jones (PTA) - 124k (+54k) - AVG=79 (On the bubble, good average and shouldn’t be the scapegoat for Port’s debacle against GWS)

DEF Michael Hartley (ESS) - 168k (+19k) - AVG=61 (still cheap, but you may as well go one of the cheaper options in my opinion)

F/D Mitch W. BROWN (ESS) - 188k (+11k) - AVG=52 (still cheap, but you may as well go one of the cheaper options in my opinion)

DEF Sam Docherty (CAR) - 491k (+10k) - AVG=104 (Buy of the Week – but mainly applicable if you are dumping JJ)

DEF Josh Gibson (HAW) - 524k (+30k) - AVG=122 (Didn’t play last week and still just has that one big score to his name)

    Midfielders
MID Josh Dunkley (WBD) - 117k (+24k) - AVG=47 (on the bubble if named, didn’t play last week but may be a chance to return with another Bulldogs injury)

MID Jade Gresham (STK) - 144k (+12k) - AVG=41 (on the bubble if named but unlikely to break into Saints side

MID George Hewett (SYD) - 164k (+8k) - AVG=54 (on the bubble if named, didn’t play last week but impressed on his return to the NEAFL with 28 touches and 14 tackles)

MID Brent Macaffer (COL) - 174k (+3k) - AVG=38 (on the bubble if named, didn’t play last week but a chance with Collingwood sure to make plenty of changes)

MID David Zaharakis (ESS) - 508k (+16k) - AVG=124 (still rising, still doing well – maybe I should have made him BOTW…)

MID Luke PARKER (SYD) - 577k (0k) - AVG=125 (had a rare off game, but still looks solid)

MID Callan Ward (GWS) - 580k (+6k) - AVG=121 (another good game from the Ward)

MID Sam Mitchell (HAW) - 611k (0k) - AVG=128 (if he keeps playing like that he will get a mention every week)

MID Gary Ablett (GCS) - 631k (-3k) - AVG=126 (let me down as BOTW, but unless injured will always be a good buy/upgrade option)

    MID Patrick Dangerfield (GEE) - 638k (+3k) - AVG=126

    Rucks
RUC Todd Goldstein (NTH) - 681k (+5k) - AVG=129 (Martin may be out pending concussion tests so if you have the cash and don’t want to stick by Martin, than Goldy probably won’t let you down)

RUC Max GAWN (MEL) - 577k (+15k) - AVG=114 (again for those few people out there with Martin and think they need to get rid of him, Gawn would make a great replacement)

    Forwards
M/F Jayden Short (RIC) - 117k (+26k) - AVG=49 (on the bubble if named, didn’t play last week and may come into consideration given so many are under-performing at the Tigers)

FWD Nicholas Kommer (ESS) - 124k (+10k) - AVG=35 (on the bubble if named, didn’t play last week and may come into consideration to replace Laverde – although others seem ahead of him)

FWD Nakia Cockatoo (GEE) - 173k (+26k) - AVG=61 (not looking bad if you need a cheap option – but not sure about his JS)

FWD Daniel Rioli (RIC) - 181k (+16k) - AVG=49 (could be worth a bit much for his average)

FWD Lincoln McCarthy (GEE) - 194k (+38k) - AVG=68 (on the bubble if named, didn’t play last week but a good chance to return against Port)

FWD Eli Templeton (STK) - 196k (+1k) - AVG=40 (on the bubble, but at that price and average – probably not)

FWD Charlie Curnow (CAR) - 198k (+16k) - AVG=53 (was on the bubble last week, got a solid 64, but other options this week)

FWD Daniel MENZEL (GEE) - 261k (+27k) - AVG=79 (on the bubble and will go up in value, but is currently a mid-range value player and would probably be a lateral trade)

    M/F Aaron Hall (GCS) - 526k (+19k) - AVG=125 (if don’t have him by now…)

FWD Jarrad Waite (NTH) - 564k (+17k) - AVG=137 (is Waite a gun? Will he keep this up? Does anyone out there have him already – because you look like a genius right now)

M/F Dayne Zorko (BRL) - 568k (+4k) - AVG=125 (if you need a gun, and don’t think Waite is a gun, then maybe Zorko is your man)

    Still a week away:
FWD Tim OBrien (HAW) - 124k - AVG=72 (on the bubble next week – a couple of goals last week but still needs to do more to retain his spot)
FWD Dougal Howard (PTA) - 124k - AVG=61 (on the bubble next week, not in team at present but was good at SANFL level)
DEF Thomas Lee (STK) - 124k - AVG=61 (on the bubble next week - looks like being a far more attractive SC prospect in his new role in defence)
M/F Liam Sumner (CAR) - 124k - AVG=45 (on the bubble next week – job security uncertain as he is struggling to have an impact)
FWD Jayden Hunt (MEL) - 124k - AVG=40 (on the bubble next week but job security and average are questionable)
MID Jordan Lewis (HAW) - 513k - AVG=96 (has he turned the corner? He has dropped 43k so far and should drop another 10k+ this week, but his 117 last week might be a sign of things to come)

So that’s Best Buys for this week.

Good luck to all with your trades and hopefully some wins on the weekend. For all your trade discussion feel free to join us in the comments section below.

    Cheers

      Great suggestion.

He was on my watchlist all pre-season, even made my mid-priced-madness team, but I didn't have the structure (stones) for him in my main squad.

Well choices are limited if you had JJ, so I think a lot of people will be bringing either him, Rance or Gibson in this week, and the other two are bit more expensive.
Heath Shaw is of course another option, but he hasn't shown much this year and looks like dropping in value further - may be a good upgrade target in a few weeks (or more) if he turns it around though.

Docherty was my pick of the defenders for JJ but I've decided to bring in a forward for him

So many rookies about to burst! Gonna be heartache picking the right ones

Docherty seems a good call, the other one I am looking at is Zac Merrett, consistent so far and a high scorer for a fwd

Thanks for the writeup. Id been looking forward to this.
      Ive got JJ.

      Im bringing in Laird.

Other question, which was asked elsewhere, is which rookie def on the bubble to bring in. 4 good options. Im going with Byrne from carlton.

I usually wait, but i did my trades early in the week this week.
All still pending team news of course.

I think the two Byrnes have the better JS, but I could be wrong - as we know picking the right rookie is always the hardest part of this game.

Bringing in that "reverse trade" button was one of the best improvements to SC/DT in recent years (can I still call it recent years?) - allows us all to be "Monday traders" and then do the right thing later in the week.

Hall (Thumbs Up) or Zac Merrett (TDown)

Trading out Papley, not confident he can reach his break even. Can't afford Zorko do these two are my best options.

Can someone remind me how I trade out Papley, and switch Brown forward?

In terms of rookies is anyone considering Cockatoo ahead of DBJ, Ruggles and Byrne?

I am OK with missing out on Wagner as I feel his 70 odd last week is unlikely to be his regular level.

Trade out Papley then press the "S" next to MBrown to slot him into Papleys spot and open up a spot in the Back 6, then Trade In your Defender.

So many good ones but no current rookies reach their full potential yet. Tippa, Hartley and Brown still have a bit of growth, however one option would be Papley out and swing Brown forward.

Thought Paps would grow a bit more though when he started with back to back 100s!

Teams will hopefully make this choice easier...

Sorry. Figured it out. Think My Supercoach page was just freezing which prevented the trade.

Lots of good looking rookies, but always hard to judge a player from two games.
A classic example (there is obviously a reason I remember this) is Beau Muston from 2009.
Started mid-season and started great with a 135 then 95, but then he didn't break 40 for the next 3 games before getting dropped for effectively the season.
Did some digging and found his stats, for those who want a trip down nightmare lane:

Is anyone considering jarrad lyons this week? Not mentioned in here and a little awkwardly priced at 241k but a mid/fwd and a BE of -31 very underpriced due to being the sub so many times last year. Should score pretty well provided he keeps getting games and a trade from papley to lyons only costs about 17 grand

My main concern with Lyon, is that he's unlikely to be a keeper- meaning you're trading him in for the cash gain.

Will he make enough? Maybe $150k by the byes if you're lucky.

Not a horrible option though, considering the rookie around, but 1 bad game and it crushes any cash he'll make you.

Lyons was on my original Best Buys list because of how much he should go up this week and the next couple of weeks.
I only left him off because he is awkwardly priced and unless he lifts that average (currently 88) a further 10 or so, then he probably isn't a keeper.

Yes i definetly dont think he's a keeper, probably more about making 120-150k and providing something decent on the field at least until the team is fully upgraded. At the moment im having to field guys like oliver and even davis last week as coverage while rockliff and brad crouch havent been playing. My main concern is whether or not he can keep getting games as he only came in when brad crouch went out injured and there is plenty of competition for places in the crows team at the moment
