An absolutely deplorable effort by the Prospectors will see the axe swing this week, the only problem is that there's no-one to come in. The home side copped a 278 point pasting from the visiting Eden Whalers, even failing to break the 1000 point barrier. Coolgardie: 962 / 15 / 64.1 Eden: 1240 / 15 / 82.7 JPK was the shining light for the home side, scoring 119, with the next best being Jack Watts in the magoos on 105, and Shane Mumford on 84 in the interchange. To make matters worse, coach JPK didn't even notice that Cam Pedersen wasn't at the ground, and didn't bother calling up Watts to replace him. Including the donut, there were four scores below 50, and a total of 9 scores below average for the home side. Furthermore, backman Tom Jonas got angry and belted Andrew Gaff in the head, and will almost certainly spend the next month on the sidelines, when there is no replacement waiting in the wings.... For the visiting Whalers, it was a completely different story. So much so that coach Holky left Daniel McStay (93), Jack Crisp (115), and Ben Brown (103) in the magoos, yet still absolutely flogged the home team. Leading the charge from the very front was Tom Lynch on 133, ably supported by Nathan Jones (109), Zac Williams (107), Anthony Miles (104), and the new Energizer mascot, Brent Harvey (103). To top things off, a below average Matthew Leuenberger (57) put home-town hero Stefan Martin (48) in the shade in the giant tap award. It looks like the only thing that will be troubling Eden in the near future will be team selection - what a terrible problem to have! Next week sees the Prospectors on the road to Staghorn Flat to take on the Bulls, meanwhile the Whalers will be back in Eden, hosting the boys from the Serengeti. Good luck to all teams. Votes: 3 - Tom Lynch, Eden, 133 2 - Josh Kennedy, Coolgardie, 119 1 - Nathan Jones, Eden, 109 Giant Tap: Matthew Leuenberger, Eden, 57, defeated Stefan Martin, Coolgardie, 48, by 9 points.
The Smugglers have held off the Gropers to record their third win of the season, 1144 - 1091. In a game that never really hit any heights, unfortunately for Southern Cross their Footscray contingent couldn't quite get the job done. Needing the 5 dogs to average around 80 to make up the difference, only Lachie Hunter hit that threshold, with sleeper ex-Smuggler Jake Stringer helping his old team over the line with a disappointing 49. The Smugglers' defence posted what must be close to an FU aggregate 4-player low with 225. This hopefully will improve in the coming weeks with several players due to return from injury. I'm pleased to report, that given the strong trading relationship between these two clubs, the post-match beers between ex-teammates are continuing late into the night. BAFFU 3-Tippett (141) 2-Martin (133) 1-Duncan/Grigg(116)
Drinking away the disappointment! The boys are enjoying their island mates hospitality. I'm sure the selection panel are drowning their sorrows after leaving Blakely (122) on the bench; his inclusion would have won the match. In the end just another poor performance in what's turning out to be a shocker of a season! Missing 7 of our preferred 15 was always going to make it a tough year but cheers for the report @DamoH and cheers for the beers!
Leuenberger is fast becoming a possibiltiy for winning the Giant Tap as a shutdown ruck (it's a thing)
Out at the Lagoon the visiting Vikings took home the 4 points with a 370 point win over the Crocs. Ross (152) and Picken (126) led the way for Nuytsland and showed the coach they were really disappointed not to be named in the starting midfield. With scores like that coming from the bench it shows the depth the Vikings have. Rampe (125) was solid down back and had some support from Biggs (79) but Birchall (51) and Roberton (36) couldn't be bothered and left at three quarter time to get some famous Crocodile dim sims to beat the dinner time rush. Viney (102) was the best starting mid, youngster Petracca (105) showed why he was selected at pick 1 in the 2015 PSD and Grundy (107) won the Big Tap over Ceglar (69). For the home side Lonergan (91) and Jones (46) were outnumbered in the defensive half after Acres and Paparone were dropped. DeGoey (89), Libba (82) and Hopper (74) did ok in the middle but it was Gunston (119), last week's hero Cameron (102) and Lycett (113) who were shining lights for the home team. Jack Martin (84) returned to form but Patton (56) continues to disappoint. The win sees the Vikings move from 9th to 7th on the ladder and provide hope for their first finals appearance. The Crocs go home disappointed but somewhat pleased at the marked improvement over the past couple of weeks. Next week the Vikings head home to take on the Parasites while Cow Bay will be up against the Panthers. BAFFU 3 - Ross, NV (152) 2 - Picken, NV (126) 1 - Rampe, NV (125)
Fantastic writeup . Crocodile dim sims love it, is that a true delicacy ? Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk
Croc dim sims only exist in the land of 'FU....unless you know where to grease the local gears of information to find out about the dodgy backyard dim sim operators. But even then the price is steep: signing of a contract to be a 10 year platinum member of Cow Bay FC, mandatory attendance at all home games, mandatory participation in cheer squad chants, being on call to don the mascot suit in times of need, and being on the orange cutter roster where only locally sourced premium oranges are allowed to be served to the players.
I was with you mate, and almost ready to sign up, right up until the point that you said the local Cow Bay oranges are "premium". We all know that the best oranges in the 'FU are from the goldfields surrounding Coolgardie!
Both of you don't know what you're talking about..... Only 3hrs up Hway 75 from the Home of the mighty Chinchilla Chumps, lies Gayndah, the home of the Original Orange Festival Even The Chumps Cheer Squad got a mention at about the 2 minute mark.....
What?!?! How can you guys say such delusional things Cow Bay has an Orange Rope Walk http://www.daintreerainforest.com/cowbay/ "The Orange Rope Walk starts at Crocodylus Village and is a 3 kilometre walk marked with orange rope and 38 numbered sign posts, following a section of Macleans Creek. A booklet is provided at reception." Crocodylus Village, 38 numbered sign posts....you even get a booklet...at reception! And it's made from real (premium) oranges! JPK be very careful, I fear you may be starting something bigger than you...not to mention that there will be orange juice on your hands.
Hah!........are they real oranges or just some cheap knock offs imported from China......that's more the Nth Qld way....
King Island Monarchs - 1354 Def Blanchetown Bunyips 1225. Possibly the Bunyips biggest score of the year was not enough to get over the top of the Mighty Monarchs. With wins in every line, including Nic Nat def Big Sauce by 8 points it was a very consistent team performance from the Islanders. Even Ziebell's 141 and Dependlebury's 140 points were not enough against 9 x 90+ scores across the board. Sam Mitchell's 52 and Scotty Thompson's 66 were both well below par which could have seen both sides post even more impressive scores had they turned up to play. The Bunyips have problems down back with all four key defenders unable to score over 63 points, which is just not enough! On the other side, the Monarch's have one of the best forward lines going around and really kicked away to get the visitors safely home. BOG votes Ziebell - 141 (3) Pendles - 140 (2) JJK - 137 (1) Until we meet again Monarchs!
Round 9 - Korumburra Blowflies 965 lost to Serengeti Buffalos 1157 A 200 odd point demolition this week by Serengeti this week now moves them up to share an un-imposing 2-7 record with the hapless Korumburra. Both teams will be looking forward to the mid season break to regroup. A plethora of injuries saw the Blowflies serve up both hot jam and cinnamon donuts all around the ground to help take the supporters minds off the ordinary performance served up once again. The big fellas Goldstein (173) and Blicavs (115) were dominant while Rory Sloane (95) battled hard. These 3 were the only real shining lights for Korumburra while an even performance across the field from Serengeti saw them march away with the big win. Zac Merrett (100) lead the way for the Buffalos ably supported by the run of Jared Polec (99) and the new, improved Nick Vlastuin (93). BAFFU 3 - Todd Goldstein 173 2 - Mark Blicavs 115 3 - Zac Merrett 100
Here comes the Buff! Thanks for the write up Mick. Couldn't even find someone to nominate in the POOYA stakes which is hopefully a sign of the whole team improvement, might even have to make some actual selection decisions this week rather than just whoever is available!
Seems @insider has gone AWOL so reluctantly I'll post that the injury hit Bulls have posted their lowest score for the season in a 212 point loss to the undefeated Dillos. Injuries and suspension are hurting the Bulls at the top end with Rockliff, Griffen, Roughy, Hall and Boyd all absent and it took only 14 Dillos to comfortably move to 9 and zip. Rich, Treloar, Steven, Vince, Wingard and Gibbs all raised the bat for the dillos whilst Coniglio (in what is clearly the best thing to come out of Ararat) was second best on ground with a season high 135 and a 5 round average of 122 - the Bulls paid a high cost to bring this former dill on board but a season and a half in we like what we see! In the big tap McEvoy continues to surprise and knocked off the bearded one in Maxy Gawn in moving to 6 and 3. This week Ararat will try and match their 10 game winning streak from 2015 and I think they'll do it against Southern Cross. The poor defending Bulls will look to play Coolgardie back in to form this week in a true 8 point game in the battle for the 8 both teams will be keen to atone for horrendous outings in Round 9.
Insider sent me a PM 2 weeks ago saying he'd be OS for 2 weeks. Was expecting to have him back by now (but there's a chance that I can't count properly), so maybe he really has gone AWOL.
