Hi everyone, Before we will know it the bye rounds will be on us. I would like to start the conversation about the state of origin carnival we have pondered in the ORFFA. The framework I have thought about is the following: State representation... essentially Vic/Tas vs the Rest of the world (I think that gives us 9 teams in each) Format... I suggest that the coaches from each ORFFA team all contribute to the representative team selection based on their region. we could do that in two separate threads to allow discussion and sledging/banter. Scoring is same style as ORFFA, with one small twist... we take the single highest score from the player selected over the three bye rounds. Highest total team score takes away the choccies. Hopefully @walesy can work some magic and give us a team entry function to calculate it all... but I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's have a chat about my suggestions above, and anything else anyone wants to throw on the table, to make the bye rounds a bit interesting
Gotta be honest and say I am indifferent to this proposal. Yes, that's a change from negative in previous years but it does not mean I am a fan. Like a well bred central North Island sheep (a pure Waikikamoocow for sure) I will go along with the flock.
So, if I understand this correctly, it is the origin state of the ORFFA team, as opposed to the state of origin of the individual player? Would it be conducted over the 3 bye rounds? Suggest the highest ranking coach (immediately prior to the byes) from each side makes the selection decisions.
That's pretty much it my Larb dodging friend. Conducted over the 3 bye rounds, with each of the selected players playing 2 of those rounds (barring injury, suspension, selection issues). So the highest of those 2 scores counts towards the overall total. I would like to think the 9 coaches can at least put a side together, with maybe the highest scoring coach having the final say in case of a tie Thoughts?
Sounds fantastic as long as someone else does all the work and I get to just be difficult during selection choices
"as long as someone else does all the work and I get to just be difficult during selection choices" +1
Time to breathe some life into this. Only one month away until the byes... State Of Origin will fill in the gaps along with the MSD. The Team composition will be made up of the best players from Vic/Tas versus the rest of the ORFFA teams Vic/Tas: Charlie's Opening Cradle Mountain Darraweit Guim Gariwerd Lovely Banks Mount Beauty Nunawading Venus Bay Wineglass Bay ORFFA others Birdsville Foul Bay Gundagai Iron Knob Larrikin Lagoon Marble Bar Wagga Wagga Waikikamoocow Whitsundays In the next couple of days I'll pull out the team lists for each team and start a thread for each squad selection... looking at some of the lineups it's going to be a ripper
Some thoughts about the SOG idea. Who knows how the byes and resting of players will work out. My proposal: Let's make it best of three. A game each week to maximise interest. Each side nominates three coaches for each game over the three weeks. All 18 ORFFA coaches have a week of team picking with two of their SOG comrades. All 18 ORFFA have two weeks of criticising their fellow SOG selections. Sorry to drop this on you so late but given the Cows' season I am now a fan!
I must admit I'm not a fan, but I'm not the only voice here. Thoughts from the masses? Team lists will be going out soon. (Next week). Had a chat to @walesy and it's going to be too much work to run it on TS, so good old excel spreadsheets for scoring will be used!
A couple of trades and two, maybe three, draft picks over the course of three plus weeks Len? I don't really mind what we do just so long as we do something with the excellent idea Banditto put forward.
For you for sure mate, for me I have to track and record every post and nuance from 18 teams in a minimum of 40 picks plus trades.. I will be busy
Because ORFFA runs so efficiently it sometimes slips my mind how much you do do Len. Thanks for the gentle but fair reminder!
OK, so we will go ahead with the status quo... maybe we can re-visit this next season Graeme after we have had a chance to kick the format around a bit.
looking forward to this I reckon the "others" will be difficult to beat, looking at the perennial finals performers in that half.
