CL stands for Clearances in the stats, not Clangers.........he had 2 clangers and 8 clearances.......plus he laid more tackles than any of the WCE boys(only because WCE had more of the pill probably) and he had more disposals than anyone else and more Contested Possessions than anyone else and more kicks than any of your blokes. Do I need to go on?. So maybe you think his score wasn't worth 143, but then go explain to me how Masten outscored Hall.....using the arithmetics you obviously favour....
Not at all, bryzza, although I think he's still up there in the top 5-6. Just pointing out that when a statement is issued that someone had 8 clangers instead of 8 clearances, it might have something to do with why the bloke scored like he did. I didn't watch the game and from the stands both JPK and yourself might have thought he wasn't worth that, but the stats show otherwise. As I said earlier , it's a lottery sometimes, how they come up with the scores.
...because he scored 143 points! Based on the statistics, CD believed he was the second best player on the ground. Being at the ground, I just couldn't see it. I do agree though, there's as much lotto in CD rankings as there is in the MRP.
@ddsaints Vikings hosted Parasites down at Nuytsland Nature Reserve with the hope that Pakenham's star studded lineup would have an off day. It wasn't be but at least Vikings put up an almighty effort. Game started off well for the Vikings with Grundy 65 unopposed to an out of position Moore 28. Vikings took every opportunity Mitchell 178 41 disposals 30 handballs 10 tackles leading the way, Sheuy 106 15 contested, unfortunately Viney 65 hurt his hand and will be out for 3 weeks but also got suspended for a flurry of punches could be the reason for the broken knuckles. Parasites golden child hit form just in the wrong for homeside as Ablett 143 32 disposals 17 contested with 8 clearances, Goddards 130 chimed in nicely. It was an even affair in the back line Vikings had two standout players Roberton 102 29 disposals 83 efficiency and a huge 11 rebound 50's and Birchall 95, honors just went to Parasites with an even spread of players Simpson 86 27 disposals 78 efficiency but held back by 5 clangers there highest scoring player. For the visitors the forward line is where they did the damage with names like Riewoldt 114 Franklin 102 Hogan 95 Barlow 85 dominated a young inexperienced Heeney 50 Petracca 51 Mclean 49 and Robinsons 86 fall from the highest of highs from last year continues. All in all ended by being a close game. Vikings 1212 Parasites 1249 Vikings clinging onto a top 8 spot only by percentage travel to Hughenden to see who keep there top 8 aspirations.
Groote Eylandt Barracudas 1,464 def Christmas Island Smugglers 1,157 The Smugglers arrived in Groote on the MV Tampa Mark II carrying the gleaming cup of Islanders. You could hear much chanting and stomping as they made their way to the paddock like the red crab mirgration. After a dismal showing on the road again the Barracuda’s were looking for redemption, especially against their flat footed neighbours. With the Cup on the line and a chance to debunk the Confucianism of “He who wins small cup does not win big cup”. The visitor’s forward line in Martin, Deledio with 3 goals and LaCras also with 3 goals kept the home side busy all day with the peppering of the big white sticks. Hartlett and Grigg circled the packs like a sharks in heat, however Tyson tripped over his pareo into the hard turf we call home and wasn’t really seen again. With Dumont’s oops in defence you know you’re in trouble and the visitors suffered here. Didn’t help that the Tippett had had his limbs trimmed for the day. The home side was given a rev up during the week by the water boy especially goal kicking. With Nicholls back from his walk about for indigenous week the Cuda’s were pumped. The Burger King got it going from the start in the backline. The engine room was steady and was lead all day by the running man Hannebery. Up front it was raining goals and touches with 4 big ones for Everitt and with the wind at their backs Stanley and Cripps of the Jamie variety blew the visitors away. From the interchange Lewis and Captain Cotch did what they pleased as they honoured Sir Douglas Nicholls. A big win to the Cuda’s on home soil to take back the Island Nation Cup, the jungle juice flowed freely late into the night for all Islanders including @DamoH
W Well deserved win to the 'Cudas. Look after the cup for the next year! My boys were never in with a shout as the reigning premiers turned on a clinic. There's so much depth at Groote that I still think they are flag favourites, despite some other teams making a decent case.
King Island 1411 def Korumburra 860 The Blowflies have given the Monarchs a few headaches in the past but with only 12 fit players that wasn't to be the case this time. After a fairly even start, it was soon one way traffic as the inconsistent Monarch forward line took full advantage of the extra space on the ground, with JJK, Tex, Eddie, and Tommy Bell all kicking multiple goals. For the visitors, Sloan battled hard as the only pure mid in the team, veterans Enright and Walker were solid down back, and Goldy fought out a draw with NicNat in a crucial Big Tap battle. Votes 3 JJK 2 Tex 1 Zaka
Belated Match Report - Apologies Work & Work related Travel killed my ability this week to complete! Bulls 1124 defeat Prospectors 1041 In an uninspiring affair the Prospectors missed a golden opportunity to stay in touch with the top 6 who now have a two game break on a pack of 5 teams who are 5 and 5. The proscpectors JPK was clearly best on ground with a sublime 160 odd whilst the Bulls Josh Kelly's 132 was a new PB in what is a breakout season for the young gun. THe only other player to crack the ton was Westhof with 125. In a fairly tight match it was the big boy McEvoy who destroyed Martin by 48 points that was game changing. History suggests you need 10 wins to make the top 8... therefore with 7 games to go it appears that the final two spots in the 8 look being a race between 5 teams (Bulls, Prospectors, Vikings, Prairie Dogs & Banchang). Teams @ 3 and 7 would need to unleash a might run to get home from there. The Bulls next two weeks will be season defining with winnable matches against an improving Serengeti and bogey side Eden 2 victories will go along way to securing a third finals appearance. Coolgardie who are also at 5 and 5 play Southern Cross and the Cudas and they would love to split these games coming in to the bye to stay in touch with the 8 at 6 & 6. The run home looks like its starting early this year!
At 1/9th time in the nugget cup between the Prospectors and the Sandgropers, its all one-way traffic, with Coolgardie leading 161 / 2 / 80.5 to Southern Cross 0 / 0 / 0. It appears as though the 'Gropers may have missed the bus...
Torn loyalties; really want bragging rights but a WC win would be equally as sweet! Is it greedy wanting both?
Yeah, its greedy. I'm going to be happy this week if all my dogs players in all my teams score 50 points or less!!! Go you mighty Eagles!
Update from The Dino Dome at 3/9 time sees the homeside hold a narrow lead in a tight tussle Hughenden. 419/5 83.8 Nuytsland. 338/4. 84.5
After 4 games there's a significant lead for the home team over the Gropers, in what has been a low-scoring and class-less match. Coolgardie: 384 / 5 / 76.8 Southern Cross: 294 / 5 / 58.8 Drew Petrie continues to lead the BOG scoring / voting after his 106. No-one else is within cooooeeee!
Half time at King Island sees the visiting Barcrawlers out to a strong lead 8/742/93 vs 6/431/72. For the Barcrawlers, skipper Selwood has dominated and Walters has been in the goals up forward. Despite some solid performances from the Monarchs, Bell and Zaka have put in stinkers combining for 51 points.
Its still an average game in Coolgardie at 6/9th of the way through. We have a new clubhouse leader in the BOG stakes, with the visitors' Dion Prestia leading the way on 114 points. It looks like team selectors for the home side will come under scrutiny yet again this week, with Touk Miller scoring 102 points in the magoos! Prospectors: 587 / 8 / 73.4 Sandgropers: 500 / 7 / 71.4
Around the grounds to Flying Fish Cove Park: The Smugglers lead @fresh Crocs 826/9 (92) to 636/11 (58). Menzel and Gunston have kicked three each for Xmas Island and Cow Bay respectively and look like being the main targets up front. Unfortunately for the Crocs young guns Jeremy Cameron (22), Patton (51) and Jack Martin (47) have been well held by the Smugglers' defence. However, the game is being won around the stoppages where Tippett's 50 hit-outs are giving the Smugglers' mids first use of the ball. Dom Tyson (142), Grigg (120) and Rischitelli (107) have nine clearances each, using all their experience against the Crocs' young mids in Hopper (65) and Keays (67). Hopefully Libba will be able to win some contested ball for the Crocs once he comes off the bench.
a series of rubbish scores, including Bryclet against his old squad, see a relatively low scoring affair for Ararat vs Groote Eylandt. The home team are 960 with 4 to play and the away team are 1114 with 2 to play. Everitt, Frawley, the sub Vickery and Sutcliffe all struggling with the away trip however new man Weitering put in a pb with 121. On the other side of the ledger the Utility line of Parish and Gibbs were dismal whilst Tomlinson couldnt replicate his first game for the year and only managed a 55
