Half time at the Eden Sporting Complex and Eden Whalers lead 7/563 (80.43) Southern Cross 10/801 (80.1)
Christmas Island are putting on a brave performance (possibly for the first time ever), leading the Pdawgs 826/10 to 737/10. After Rischatelli busted his knee for a playing zero, the Smugglers have stepped up, lead by an unlikely Jesse White with 113. Best for Hughenden so far is Kieran Jack, who managed to overcome domestic issues to kick 3 goals and post 123. The final third sees Yeo, Sheppard, Kerridge , Graham and an OOP Lindsay Thomas for the Pdawgs taking on Hurn, Lever, Kreuzer, LeCras, Dumont and 89 points.
Late in the game down in The Crater it is the Barracuda's leading the way despite an improed showing from the young Buffaloes. At 3/4 time the score stands; Serengeti: 931/11/84.6 Groote Eylandt: 972/10/97.2 Match result is still up for grabs but the Barracuda's should be strong enough to close it out from here
Thanks for the update. The Pdawgs have it all in front of them, a loss sees them out of finals contention, with the Smugglers outplaying them, it will be a tough last quarter.
3/4 time at the Kingdome sees the visiting Vikings 11/933/84.8 leading the Monarchs 9/730/81.1. Rampe has dominated across half back for the visitors, with Mitchell and Viney getting the job done in the middle. For the home side, Broadbent has been good pushing up the ground and Macrae has been the best of the midfielders.
A very late update from The Stadium sees Banchang 9/829 leading Gisborne 7/515. The stars for the home team have been Peter Wright with 136, new boy in his first game, Jack Grimes 121, and Taylor Adams in his first game back from injury, with 114, while for Gisborne, Lachie Neale with 123 and new recruit Daniel Talia 122 lead the way for the understrength Grenades.
The Smugglers have played above their averages to make up for the playing zero from Rischatelli to easily take the game from Hughenden who were average to say the least. Final scores Smugglers 1266 to Hughenden 1070. Match report to follow shortly.
Final Score from Blowies Bulls match. The visiting Bulls have defeated a fast finishing Blowflies outfit 1279 - 1215 Both teams were very active in the mid season break however for the new look Blowflies outfit the result remained the same with another loss as they drop to 2 - 11. The Bulls who remain in the hunt for a third straight finals appearance travel again to Southern Cross this week in a crucial match. The Blowflies will be looking for victory number three against fellow cellar dweller Gisborne in a battle for 16th. Mick's match report to follow...
If I've added this up correctly, the Coolgardie Prospectors have run out unconvincing 52.5 point winners over @fresh the Cow Bay Crocs, 1119.5 to 1067. With only two fit defenders, the home side were relying on some fill ins, which seriously pulled the score down, even though Miller got 139 points, the halved score of 69.5 to go with Griffin's 24 hurt down back. Serious questions will be asked of team management, both with how we ended up in this predicament in the first place, and why we selected a bloke who got 139 points OOP... The Coolgardie midfield was a hit-and-miss affair, with captain JPK leading the side with 117, offset by the injured Ebert and his lowly 10 points. In the ruck, Stefan finally put in another decent showing, scoring 92 points. The forward line was lead by jumpin' Jack Watts on 111 points, but was seriously let down by new recruit Sicily on 38. He's going to have to do much better to keep his spot in the side. The interchange saw big Mummy ton up with 106, to be the third-best Prospector on the field. For the visitors the defence was in disarray, with Lonergan pulling out early, and Tucker's 34 having to fill the void. A top score of only 64 from Jones goes to show how dismal they collectively were. The Crocs mids didn't fare much better, with Keays also pulling out early, so youngster Anderson got to have a crack with 51 points. The injury induced 47 from Libba didn't help the cause, and a top score of 87 from Blakely just won't cut it. The rucks saw some positivity, with Lycett bringing home 90 points, to just be pipped in the giant tap. Amazingly the forwards shone for the Crocs, even with all the poor supply. Martin's 116 was the third best performance of the match, and with a low of 69 from de Goey, there's some real promise in this line. The interchange saw the BOG of Ceglar and his 128, although Patton's 64 still brings up question marks about his quality. The votes: 3 - J Ceglar, Cow Bay, 128 2 - JP Kennedy, Coolgardie, 117 1 - J Martin, Cow Bay, 116 Giant Tap: S Martin, Coolgardie, 92, defeated S Lycett, Cow Bay, 90.
Fresh off the bye rounds dd and his Parasites brought a fierce contest to Ararat which was decided by under 50 points. The injury depleted Armadillos were without 2 of their first choice backmen and 2 of their first choice forwards, however lucky last pick in the mid season draft James Gwilt swooped in to save the day with an 81 and secure the win for the home side 1298 to 1263. Pakenham's fearsome midfield performed admirably; with the exception of Ablett, all 3 (and Newnes on the interchange) got to raise the bat. It was a similar story in the forward line with Hogan managing 126, supported by Riewoldts 105 and Franklins 94. Unfortunately for the Parasites there were too many passengers in defence with Kade Simpson mateless. For the Armadillos it was the might of a few who covered for the mediocrity of many. Gawn notched 141 to lead the ruck division, Tom McDonald had a throwback (to last year) game with 144 and Jack Steven continued his run of recent form with a whopping 170.
Thanks for the score updates during the weekend and writeup @JPK . Must say, I wasn't sure whether to like or dislike your post! It would've been nice to get another win this weekend, the opportunity was there but looks like the Crocs wilted under the pressure. Still a few more rounds to try for another win or 2, fingers crossed the players can handle the heat
You may call me Ross Lyon. My team won't score much, but that's ok, because we'll play dull and boring footy and simply prevent anyone from scoring!
FULL-TIME REPORT from THE STADIUM, BANCHANG. The Grenades from Gisborne travelled to Thailand to face The Barcrawlers in the first game after the MSD, hoping for an improved showing for the latter part of the season, but were dealt a serious blow as soon as they arrived, with both Downie and Seedsman being denied Visas which left the visitors 2 down before even taking the field and with the economic climate taking effect, they had travelled without any emergencies. The Barcrawlers had their own problems when Laidler's wife rung to say he wouldn't be able to make the game due to an upset stomach. It was left to the 14 from Banchang to take on the 13 from Gisborne. The game started at a furious rate with the home side jumping out to a commanding lead at qtr time 4/302 to the visitors 1/50. The Grenades took a while to get going, but managed to peg the lead back a little and went into the sheds at half time trailing 7/515 to 9/829. The 2nd half was more of a stalemate with the home team putting 472 on the board while the Grenades, responding well despite lack of numbers, and tackling ferociously, managed to add 460 to their score. The final score reading Banchang 14/1301 to Gisborne 13/975, with Banchang retaining the Master vs Apprentice Cup. Best for Banchang were "2 metre Peter" Wright with 136, Grimes in his first game for The Barcrawlers 121, and Adams 114, and ably supported by Docherty,Gibson and Selwood, who all tonned up. For Gisborne, ever reliable Lachie Neale 123, and their first pick in the MSD, Daniel Talia 122, and Chris Masten 113 all tried hard but being a player down didn't help. And further problems might come their way with Casboult being reported for a "tummy tap" After the game and with all Press Conferences completed, the visitors were treated to our famous Barcrawl along The Strip and at last call, they were heading for the Airport to collect Seedsman and Downie who spent the weekend under the charge of the Royal Immigration Police, and then off home to Gisborne.
Full Time at the Eden Sporting Complex and the Whalers have finally beaten the Sandgropers. On the 3rd try, but a good win . The new players played well with Tarrant scoring 85 and Atkins 76. Ben Brown led well with 122, but it was a solid effort from our lower scorers that got the job done compared to the Sandgropers with great leaders but 7 players under 60. Their stars played well, McGovern, Prestia, Crouch, Rioli and Stringer all topping the 100. Just a few more wins like this and we will make the 8. Eden Whalers 1217 Def: Williams 90, Tarrant 85, Malceski 71, Wood 84 (Maynard) Mid: Curnow 70, Jones 99, Scully 68, Crisp 84 Ruck: Phillips 46 Fwd: Boomer 84, Lynch 81, Jenkins 90, Pav 67 (Griffiths) IC: Brown 122, Atkins 76 (Papley) Southern Cross Sandgropers 1168 DEF: J.McGovern 109, H.Taylor 87, S.Day 55, L.Plowman 56 MID: M.Duncan 95, D.Prestia 126, M.Wallis 60, B.Crouch 109 (A.Vandenberg) RUC: J.Roughead 56 FWD: C.Rioli 108, C.Cameron 47, J.Darling 46, J.Stringer 103 (J.Harmes) INT: H.Crozier 54, D.Smith 57 (W.Milera) Votes: Prestia 3, Brown 2, McGovern 1
Full time at the Bunyips home ground and its been a resounding win to the homeside 1315 to the Panthers 1108. Down back Rory Laird led the Bunyips defensive division with a massive 130 to be arguable the best small defender in the AFL (might be a little biased as a Crows fan). Heath Shaw is currently having a lean spell and only managed 82 points this week which is 30 under his yearly average. Still his 82 along with B Smith's 82 were the 2nd and 3rd highest scores down back. In the mids it was all about Robbie Gray coming back into the competition with a massive 132 which, funnily enough, is 30 above his yearly average. Poor performances from L Hunter, D Mundy and even B Ellis really hurt the visiting Pearcedale Panthers. In the rucks it was all Sauce Jacobs with a decent 114 points outscoring reserve ruckman and OOP Tim Membrey for 25 points. Up forward it was all about the Panthers J Howe who bused out a massive 120 points which is 32 points above his season average. Whilst Daisy struggled with a calf injury and could only manage 53 points. The Bunyips forward line did nothing special with most players scoring to their average... just average. New Bunyips recruit James Kelly came to the party with a handy 86 and reserve Interchange player, D Towers busted out a huge 90 points, but not enough to get the visitors over the line. BOG Votes: Gray 3, Laird 2, J Howe 1 Until next time mate!
Nuytsland 1301 def King Island 1215 The Vikings sailed down to Bass Strait to take on the Monarchs and looked right at home in the icy conditions. It was a tight tussle all day with the 2 sides fairly evenly matched across all lines. The visitors got out to an early lead courtesy of a bog performance by Rampe sweeping across half back. At the other end Broadbent was also able to rack up plenty of the touches for the home side. Both midfields were impressive at stages with Shuey and Mitchell the best for the Vikings, and Priddis and Macrae for the Monarchs. Grundy got the big tap win in the ruck against Smith. Going into the last quarter the home crowd were looking to their big guns to get the Monarchs over the line but only JJK really fired. However with Young out of position in the Viking's forward line it was enough to get the game back close to level pegging. With the result in the balance it was Seb Ross who came off the bench for visitors with a match-winning final quarter while Dal Santo lay at home in bed - apparently it was a bit cold for him. Votes 3 Rampe 2 Shuey 1 Broadbent
Thanks for the updates KIng tylo. Vikings finally take a top 4 scalp in the hope not to be labelled flat track bully's.
Thanks for the report @choppers wouldn't have been close even with a full team. Encouraging signs for both sides, the Grenades could be edging up towards 1200 (even on a bad week) and the Barcrawlers upwards of 1400 with full teams. Barcrawl was an experience, but Gisborne staff will be investigating allegations of bribes to prevent Downie and Seedsman from playing
Thanks @HOLKY for the report; I thought you had Luke Brown and was celebrating a win that was going to improve my draft position next year We'll done on the win mate! Most of those 60's will be gone next season with Ryder, Hurley, Hibberd & Sheed included in the line up and hopefully D.Smith will have blown out the cobwebs by then too and I can make a concerted effort at my first finals appearance. Best of luck for the rest of the season.
