Round 14 (AFL 17) … Bleak Week In the Southern Hemisphere, the third week of July is considered the Bleak Week. No better way to celebrate the cold, miserable Australian winter than chasing a bag of wind through the ankle-deep slush of a Tasmanian footy paddock. But for four of our teams Bleak Week has another meaning, we don’t want to be around these teams as husband and wife play against each other. Gundagai Grasshoppers v Mt Beauty Uglies Nunawading Nuffas v Foul Bay Chickens Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles v Wagga Wagga Wombats Whitsunday Warriors v Gariwerd Cockatoos Darraweit Guim Dirigibles v Lovely Banks Lilacs Wineglass Bay Packers v Marble Bar Misfits Charlies Opening Spelunkers v Venus Bay Vultures Birdsville Battlers v Larrikin Lagoon Lefties Cradle Mountain Devils v Iron Knob Codpieces
Woo hoo - Household Cup Week! Will have to take a picture of the cup itself. Best of luck to the Lilacs.
Cradle Mountain’s provisional Round 14 (ORFFA) team In: D Zaharakis, S Grigg (subject to a fitness test) Out: L Shiels (hamstring), D Petrie (omitted) Def: N Vlastuin, L Spurr, J Lever, Z Jones (D McStay) Mid: S Pendlebury, D Zaharakis, J Gresham, B Kennedy (J Redden) Ruc: J Roughead Fwd: D Zorko, S Johnson, T Membrey, J Steele (D Petrie) Inter: S Grigg, S Gilbert (N Smith) I am going straight from work to Hisense Arena tomorrow night to watch the Australian Boomers vs the Pac 12 Allstars so have named a provisional full 15 man Devils team. Thursday night players are in bold. Depending on the AFL teams some minor changes might be made to the Cradle Mountain team before the start of the Friday night game. The experiment of Zorko in the midfield was very short-lived. As a team last round the Devils only just made the 1K mark and only had one player score a ton, barely with Pendles scoring exactly 100. We were hoping that Stevie J could turn the clock back a few years to 2013 when he was the highest averaging forward in the ORFFA with 117 points per game, instead he managed less than 40% of that output against Mount Beauty with a score of 44 in the role of F1. In an unprecedented turn of events such was Johnson’s level of disappointment with his own performance he offered full refunds to anyone that purchased tickets (whether by cash or credit) to the Stevie J show. Cradle Mountain are quite happy to continue riding the Stevie J rollercoaster – there have been a lot more highs than lows during the mercurial Stevie J’s time at the Devils, however Johnson has been banned indefinitely by the club from selling tickets to his show which his team-mates and a couple of Uglies players claimed was a Red Hot Chilli Peppers tribute and should have been titled One Hot Minute because that was about all he delivered against Mount Beauty.
