I think the idea was to give those that wanted a break (family, Christmas, new year etc.) some time without having to respond to pm's without any issues arising for being uncontactable. I'd think you could still make offers and get deals done but just not be annoyed if someone doesn't get back to you for a few weeks. In saying all of this I'm one of the junkies that checks the site everyday!
Having now just read that both you and @insider are having a break, I personally would like to thank both of you for your valued contribution to the running of ORFFU and, at the same time, put my hand up to take my turn on the board and try and do as good a job as both of you, should my nomination be accepted.
I second your nomination Chop - reckon you'd do a great job. I'm happy to put myself forward for the second vacancy.
choppers only has half my support hahahaha. you two lads would both be wonderful additions to the board. Two strong voices and opinions will do the health of the competition absolutely no harm!
I can stand aside if people really want - or stand for re-election or whatever - but I did also understand it as a two year imprisonment!!! What does it involve? A lovely big solid oak table, with comfy reclining chairs and a great view from an ivory tower. You get paid more handsomely for doing seriously less work, and no-one minds if you sit at multiple tables at the same time pushing your own personal agenda at each one! Seriously: its behind the scenes discussion to make sure things run smoothly. We run ideas past eachother, and make some (actually very few) decisions that don't need to go to a full ORFFU vote. The Commissioner has the final say, although that has pretty-much never been used. The best examples of board activity were the Essendon drugs scandal and allowing a couple of effected coaches to pick an extra player, and deciding how we'd score the round of the unfortunate situation when Phil Walsh passed away. I don't know if that helps or confuses @bryzza but that's the best I can come up with right now. Anyone else care to add anything?
Geez, I hate getting old and still living in the 20th century, cause I have no friggin' idea what that means.....
The Magic 8 Ball is a toy used for fortune-telling or seeking advice, developed in the 1950s and manufactured by Mattel. It is often used in fiction, often for humour related to its giving very accurate, very inaccurate, or otherwise statistically improbable answers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_8-Ball totally reliable
You forgot to say that not much gets done In all seriousness, I'm happy for you to stay on for your sentence JPK. If anyone else drops out then choppers and Damo would grab my vote.
What are we going to do about Round 9's Gold Coast-Port Adelaide bye? Precedence suggests we use average scores.
No precedence has been set, the Cats Crows game was a once off situation that required quick resolution. The 2017 AFL fixture additional bye round 9, is certainly a curveball however, with additional 2 players being added to our list & the knowledge of the bye round coaches should be able to structure themselves accordingly.
I think this works if we were picking brand new squads but we don't really get the option of structuring our teams to accommodate this bye when we are only adding rookies to the team who may or may not be playing by next year. Not sure it is reasonable to expect clubs to pick players based on one round of football or decide that they just have to give that round up. Will put it out there as well that I am probably a bit biased because I currently already have 5 PA/GC players including 3 of my defenders...
Even though i only have one port player should he make it on my field due to an injury I would expect in all fairness that those players teams affected would be able to use the average for that player.
I think we just suck it up. Stuff like this will affect all of us one way or another. This year it might hurt 3-4 players, next year it might hurt a different 3-4 players. Or, we just have no competition matches when bye rounds occur.
I'm just putting this out there.......Peter Wright (age 20) is going to be a star........just hope his g/f is from the Gold Coast......don't want another one pissing off home cause the g/f has his balls in a vice.....
