Again no issue with the view that draft pick/s back are seen by some as negotiation (rather than receiving $7 change when I pay for my $13 pint with a $20). If this is a common or majority view of the current franchise holders and/or board then fair enough.
@port_leschenault If you are talking ORFFF rather than other comps there has been a previous auction bid in the MSD GAJ auction whereby one of 2 alternative bids made by the 29ers included 5th and 6th rounders back as makeweights from Mole Creek. The other alternative bid was favoured (but later beaten) hence there has been no precedent other than the bid being made and declined as opposed to being vetoed or ruled invalid. As above I may be in the small minority but wouldn't see the bid under discussion as conditional on other "unrelated" outcomes, hence I wouldn't see the rule being breeched although others may. The rule mentioned clearly does get breeched when - for example - a bid is conditional on Goldstein not retiring or being traded to WCE or the Sydney Kings during or after the auction, otherwise IMO it is subject to interpretation, precedent or clarification as most rules are.
I think we maybe need to be clear on this ruling in future. I tend to agree that like a real world auction, you can't request something back as a proviso of your bid, if only to avoid things becoming to complicated. But as always, happy to go with a majority ruling on it.
FA has a precedent allowing it using those rules. Essentially it's a means of adjusting the price offered, akin to not having a $75 bill so asking for change on a $100 bill. All aspects of the bid totally realted to the auction.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying that precedent should apply here, just that's how it was dealt with under the same rules elsewhere
This probably reinforces TTH's inference about different interpretation of rules. I quoted that blurb from the auction rules cos I interpreted that: adding an item to the sole item being auctioned represented something "not directly related to the auction at hand". i.e. The TTH bid was conditional on Dale offering up a draft pick (which was not tabled in the original auction), hence was not directly related to the auction at hand. Anyways, that's my interpretation. I could well be off target. Good discussion though, perhaps we need a vote. Alternatively, we could just set up another thread specifically for negotiauctions.
Sorry been busy. A lot of good offers, but will have to pass. Players offered similar or lower level to comparable players on list.
Deadline passed at 2pm today (assuming I've read the trade deadline time/date correctly). Still time if you want to trade. Just pm me.
