I assume this means the dogs would be keen to hang onto Adams now, and also had done quite well to receive pick 35 for a 23 game 23 year old they picked up for free ??

We were keen to hang on to Hamling, he had a contract offer from us on the table.
We are also keen to hang on to Adams, yes.

      Hamling's 2016 finals resume reads:
      Kennedy - tick
      Rioli - tick
      Cameron - tick
      Franklin - tick

There were compensation picks given to other clubs for worse players, that were better than the Pick 35 we got for Hamling. So no, I don't think we were lucky to get Pick 35. We were lucky that Geelong didn't see what they had, whereas our recruiters did see something.

Compensation picks can't really be compared with trade outcomes though. I personally think that they are priority picks by stealth when you think of Frawley compensation versus Buddy compensation, which is the only reason they haven't yet been abolished.

Good recruiting and development was the point I was alluding to, even if the Dogs have to lose or turnover players those wins all help in the big picture.

Wow, Smedts and a future first-rounder for Tuohy. Gotta see that as a win for the Blues, even though I do like Tuohy.

Edit: Upgrade from 2nd rounder to 1st, but still.

How is Geelong going to ensure that they make 2 first round selections over four years in the national draft when this will make the 3rd year in a row that they haven't used a first rounder?

You would think they either trade one in tomorrow and get their regulation first rounder next year, or they trade in the 2nd first round pick next year.

Would that be a case of the AFL adjusting the rules on the go... ???

And what would the penalty be if they didn't manage to acquire a first round pick either tomorrow or from next year's draft?
      Slap on the wrist?

not if my example above fits with the current rules

I have read elsewhere that a club would be barred from trading their first and/or future first for a set period. I have no idea whether this is accurate. One would hope the sanction is spelled out in the current rules, wherever they are written down.

GWS have 2, 15 and 31 and 37 as well as late picks to use for academy picks. Assuming the tiges pay some of Lids salary to assist the GWS cap situation as is rumoured you would think that GWS would sling them a decent pick or picks to seal the deal.

Yep, If they agree to pay 50% or more of his wage they will get a very profitable pick exchange

Who thinks Nankervis can go straight past Hampson and become No.1 ruck at Richmond? Does he have the tank?

It looks like a very busy morning so far with the dogs swapping picks with the Gold Coast and Witts, Kersten, Hrovat, Tuohy and Caddy all traded.

A few big ones to go down to the wire by the looks of it.

He may take a while to develop his tank, but would think he would get plenty of games in 2017 if he plays well or if Hampson doesn't play well.

They've been favourites on the bookies since just after the grand final.
