Ok, I'm gonna put a player up for auction. Jeremy Cameron from GWS Super talented forward who is still young (23 years, 9 months young) and about to enter his prime in the next couple of years. you know who he is. All Australian already and the GWS leading goalkicker in each and every one of their 5 seasons. (did I say he is still yet to enter his prime?) Im looking for a high PS draft pick, or a decent defender aged around 25-26 averaging >80. An elite ruck would do it too. Auction will close midday on Monday January 30th (or before if reserve is met and I call it off sooner)
Getting closer to the top 2. Gee, my side is old though. Average age of my starting 15 is over 29 years of age. Could go horribly, horribly wrong. Hopefully they have a year or two left in them.
Putting two players up for separate auctions for those looking to add extra strength to their midfield. #1 - Ryan Griffen Age: 30 2016: 13 games @ 94 average #2 - Liam Picken Age: 30 2016: 22 games @ 86 average I'll consider players or draft picks or both. Auction ends Sunday 29th Jan at 11:59pm AEST.
AUCTION ALERT Player: ZAC SMITH Average: 77.6 (21 out of 22 games in 2016) Age: 26 years old Position: Ruck I know that there are a number of teams out there searching for a ruckman, either as insurance in case their number one man goes down, or because they don't even have a number one man. With 18 AFL sides, this means 18 No.1 ruckman in the competition. Coincidentally, there are 18 ORFFA sides and with a few sides having more than one 'No. 1' ruckman in their side, my maths tells me that this would be an upgrade for many teams. The 21 games played last year indicate that he has found his place in Geelong colours and with Mark Blicavs lining up at Centrelink as we speak with the death of the third man up, there is no-one to pinch hit-outs from what is a very good tap ruckman. He is coming into his prime in terms of age for a ruckman also. I'm more than happy to keep him as I have tossed around the idea of playing with three ruckmen next season, plus it provides me good depth for when Mummy gets injured, suspended or thinking forward, for his retirement. At the same time, I know young Zac potentially holds more value for others than he does for me. In terms of what I am after, my preference would be for a defender who mirrors Smith's average and age profile. If you want to offer a player that averages less, please make sure that they are younger and/or you throw in a draft pick (it doesn't have to be a super good one). You can offer mids or forwards who have a youthfulness to them, I will consider all offers, but these positions hold less appeal to me. Or you can throw me a good draft pick with a lesser defender and I will take it under advisement. Or, no-one can bid anything and I will gladly retain Zac and continue to groom the young man for bigger and better things. Auction Ends: Friday 3rd February, 21:00 AEDT
Piss off Rooster boy, you watch the Blitz be taking the throw ins around the grounds because Smith et al can't get there in time
And if the cobalt don't work its magic an old fashioned bicarbonate of soda milkshake may be the answer.
Truly, I did miss all this fun back and forth over the quieter post season 2016 months. lovely to be able to enjoy it again
OK, I'll bite: I'll offer Darcy Byrne-Jones, 21yo defender at Port Adelaide and a 2017 first round MSD pick. Byrne-Jones averaged 71 ppg over the first 13 rounds of his first season of senior footy and got a rising Star nomination too. Faded and got tired over the last 7 rounds (50ppg average). But he clearly showed what he is capable of. Is locked into Port's best 22 and will be better after a full preseason. Plus at 21 he still has plenty of growth and improvement left. The MSD pick would be Darraweit's first round pick, wherever that might end up. So a young defender and another player for the price of Mr Smith.
Fair bit short Chris. I don't rate MSD at all after the first two or three picks because if the players were any good they would have been picked in the PSD. DBJ is promising, but 14ppg is a bit too far off.
Finally catching up with what is happening. Offer on the table of Matthew Suckling, premiership defender, for Zac Smith.
Bit harsh on the MSD I reckon. Young, Brown, DBJ, Lyons, Nicholls, Hunter, Edwards, AMT have all landed with me through the MSD or been traded to or away from me after being selected in the MSD. Speaking of AMT, I'll bid his services for Zac Smith's. McDonald-T'wuti averaged 71 or 72 I think last year, and should improve with better teammates around him - either dashing off HB or playing HF. And he's younger and less experienced than Zac Smith too.
Feedback on most recent bids... Terry, Matthew Suckling is too old for what I am looking for. I have four 30+ defenders filling my Best 15 backline spots, I can't afford to have another older player in my defensive stocks. Chris, AMT is an upgrade on DBJ, so I give you that. All reports are that he is going to play forward this year With the four 30+ defenders I mentioned earlier, my plan is to use Smith to set up some succession planning in my backline and while AMT is a DEF this year, he won't be going forward, so this doesn't help me long term unfortunately.
Some general feedback for the Smith auction (not directed specifically to those kind people who have submitted bids), but having looked at everyone's list and piecing together what I think everyone's best 15 would be if I had their list, bids for Zac Smith are going to have to be for defenders that are currently in everyone's best four defenders (I don't think there is a team that is an exception to that). I realise that might be steep for some, so I don't begrudge people if they don't want to bid. As I've said, I'm more than happy to roll with three No.1 ruckmen. But we have seen many teams undone by having to play without a ruckman (it derailed my 2015 tilt when Mummy busted his ankle, and lets not even talk about Iron Knob who could have won multiple flags over the past few years). Hence why there has to be a premium placed on this position.
Fair call Chief, can understand why you don't want to take the risk there with AMT. Further thinking to occur. ☺
