    Banchang is proud to announce being the 16th Team accepted into the ORFFU for the coming 2014 season. As only a short time has elapsed since our consortium put together our bid, I, as elected Coach of the Barcrawlers, will endeavour to outline a brief summary of our locality. Banchang is a small coastal town of approx. 23,000 residents, situated on the Eastern seaboard of Thailand, approx. 200 klms east of Bangkok, which came into being on May 7th,1976, when it was decided to split 2 tambons of the Mueang District. (see map) /Portals/0/User%20Images/Banchang%20Area.png' style='width: 454px; height: 160px;
I am also proud to announce that Ratchaneekommuk Thanasukolwit has been approached, and has accepted the position of President of The Banchang Barcrawlers and will commence her duties once she has managed to sell her sick buffaloes. As there will be quite a bit of dialogue to happen between clubs, we have decided to help with communication in so much that Ratchaneekommuk Thanasukolwit will simply be known as 'The Pres'. (picture below) /Portals/0/User%20Images/President.jpg 'THE PRES'
As more appointments are made, I will endeavour to bring these to the attention of the ORFFU. We are currently in discussion with Thailand's premier Brewing Company to come on board as our Major Sponsor and we are also conducting interviews for various 'backroom' positions such as Physio, Boot Studder, Dressing Room staff etc.

Looks like 'The Pres' is chumping at the bit to get amongst proceedings, I can see she has an eager eye on things already, one to be aware of I think, don't let the good looks fool you

We're very busy at the moment getting sponsors, travel packages, and backroom staff on board in time for the 1st Draft. Should have a major announcement shortly concerning our Premium Sponsor.

So a date has been set for the mighty Banchang Barcrawlers to compete for the inaugural Offshore Outer Regional Fantasy Football Trophy(OORFFT) against the clueless Serengeti Buffaloes and it takes place at the local Stadium on Banchang-Phayun Beach Road in Round 13. Before a 'war of words' erupts over my use of the word clueless in describing The Buffaloes, let me first explain. In Thai culture, since time immemorial, water buffalo (or Khway pronounced kwai in the Thai language), so crucial in wet rice agriculture, equates to cluelessness. This, in turn has given rise to a few related idioms, one of which is, 'to play a fiddle to a water buffalo is to explain something to someone who is incapable of understanding it'. This is further illustrated by the decision 'The Pres' made when elected as CEO of our great club, to sell all her buffalo, so as the Barcrawlers would not be referred to, as being clueless. We here in Banchang look forward to Round 13 with much anticipation at the eagerly awaited clash with The Clueless Ones. And I am sure that the Barcrawlers will be victorious and will hold aloft the OORFFT, amidst much celebrating, before saying Sawasdee Khrap to the Serengeti Kwai-babies, as they commence their long and tearful journey back to the deepest depths of Africa.

With the Post Season Auction Period about to close for 2014, the Football Dept. of Banchang Barcrawlers would like to bid a fond farewell to 5 of our players, who served Banchang quite admirably in our inaugural season, Jed Adcock, Shaun Grigg, Brad Crouch, Stewart Crameri and Zach Merrett. We wish them well at their new homes and may they all have full filling ORFFU careers. We were also preparing to say goodbye to Jason Winderlich to retirement, but after upgrading his contract, by providing him with his very own tuk-tuk to get him to training, he has decided to go around one more season. We would also like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to our new recruits, Matty Suckling, Sam Docherty, Taylor Adams and Mike Pyke and wish them all the success in their on field endeavours at Tropical Banchang. We now move into the ORFFU Post Season Trade Period, so let the haggles begin......

In our first trade for the New Year, we have traded Jordan Murdoch to King Island in exchange for pick 34 in the PSD. We're sorry to see Jordan depart the Barcrawlers, but he asked for a trade after failing to come to terms with the hot spicy Thai food in his 1st season here.. Here's hoping a change in his diet to King Island's worldfamous lobster, cheese and beef might improve his scoring ability for the Monarchs and prove a worthy addition to their side. We now look forward to using PSD34 to our advantage.

Round 1. Banchang 1358 def Gisborne 969 A very good win at home, first up, with recent recruits Docherty 147, McGovern 145 and Adams 98, all having fine games in their first outing for The Barcrawlers. They were ably supported by the wise old experienced heads of Montagna 110, and the 2014 Norm Smith medallist Luke Hodge, 97. while the ever reliable Gibson notched 91. Up forward, we were well serviced by 2 of our mosquito fleet, Blair with 107, and Lloyd 92. The 3rd member Jarrod Pickett, has been performing well on the training track, so it shouldn't be too long before he gets his call up to the seniors. This win against the Grenades gives Banchang the 2015 Master vs Apprentice Trophy which will be displayed proudly in the foyer of our clubhouse. The only downside was the reporting of Matty Shaw for a flying elbow. He will miss the next round. B & F Award.......... 3 Docherty 2 McGovern 1 Montagna POOYA Nomination Sam Docherty

    Round 3. Banchang 1309 def Korumburra 1236
In a very physical game at Korumburra's Terrordome, the visiting Barcrawlers overcame a slow start to post their 1st away win for 2015. The win was set up by very solid midfield performances from Banchang's 2 warrior chiefs, Hodge (174) and Selwood (154) and ably supported by 'Slammin' Sam Gibson (111), Swallow (69) and an improved effort from Matty Shaw (57) who was subbed into the game after half time. The defence also held well with McGovern (100) leading the way until he was subbed out with a knee problem, and supported by Suckling (80) and Astbury (72) playing his first game for the season. But you need to score if you want the 4 points and Walters (101), Blair (81) and Cunningham (79) all did enough to get the win. The home team were well served by their Skipper Sloane (140), who will be lighter in the pocket after his fine from the MRP, as well as Goldstein (110) in the ruck, and a wayward Cloke (104) up forward, whilst small forward Matty Stokes (22) suffered a foot injury and needed to be subbed out of the game, which didn't help the home team's chances The result was testiment to the great 'team first' attitude instilled into this team, who had an unbelievable 4 players scores sub affected, but still managed to get the win. After the game, the boys managed a subdued barcrawl between the Austral and the Korumburra Hotels, then a rushed trip to the Airport and onto a flight back home. Injury Report Cooney Hamstring (3-4 weeks) McGovern Knee ( unknown) Adams Foot (Test) Montagna Knee (Test) Warnock Shoulder (Test) B&F Award 3...Hodge 2...Selwood 1...Gibson Leaderboard (after 3 rounds) 5...Selwood 4...Docherty 3...Hodge 2...McGovern Swallow

Season 2017 is nearly upon us and The Barcrawlers are hoping to improve on their 7th place in 2016. In what can only be described as a very hectic Post-Trading/Drafting period, The Selection committee saw fit to delist/trade 8 players while Corey Enright and Adam Cooney both retired.
Out went Laidler Docherty Grimes Pearce Selwood Gibson Minson and Cunningham.

In come Bastinac Barrass Ibbotson Hanley Hall Robinson Knight Cameron Newman and Langdon.

The boys who have already arrived hit the training track for the first time this week in preparation for the ensuing season and we are able to report that :
Midfielder/forward Riley Knight has turned plenty of heads with his performances on the training track over the summer. He took out the Barcrawlers' first 2km time trial as he attempts to force his way into the club's best 15, with Cam Ellis-Yolmen's training really well, too.

    Taylor Adams'
presence was sorely missed when he was injured last season. He has returned determined to avoid such frustration in 2017, hitting the track hard.
Third-year forward Peter Wright is another big man running as strongly as the midfielders – while adding even more strength to his 203cm frame. Alex Sexton has also been among the most impressive Barcrawlers.
Midfielder Jonathan O'Rourke is another who has enjoyed a fine summer.
Ruckman Darcy Cameron might get a chance early in 2017 to show his wares.
An interrupted pre-season to ruck-forward Callum Sinclair has raised the prospect of Cameron being given the opportunity to impress during pre-season training.
He has trained well since joining the club with pick No.48 in the 2016 ORFFU Draft

We look forward to taking our 2 remaining picks in the Mini-Draft, to complete our squad for the upcoming season.

A lot has happened at The Barcrawlers since our last report.
Ellis-Yolmen suffered a season ending injury at training, leaving our forward stocks a little low, whilst young draftee Tom Barrass suffered from that never-ending sickness, common to all northern clubs, namely "go-home" sickness. We were able to negotiate a trade fairly quickly with the Prospectors, who sent us Jonathon Griffin, a 31yo ruck who's never suffered home-sickness, in exchange for young Tom.
We still have a few in the Doctor's rooms, namely Knight, Sinclair, O'Rourke who aren't available for selection in Rd1.
Our selection committee will meet tomorrow and our team for Rd1 will be named Thursday afternoon.
We are looking forward to hosting The Smugglers for the first game of the new season and a suitable Bar-crawl has been organised for after the game, one which may have them struggling to make their departing flight home.
    Bring on the season................

Late News: Emerging ruck Darcy Cameron is a late non-selection for Rd1 due to an infected finger, attained during the latest training session.

    The legendary Bangchang bar-crawl!

We're concerned having this infamous event this early in the season given what its done to teams in the past, but we certainly appreciate the hospitality of Choppers and the Barcrawlers' organisation.

This match is as close to a local derby as the Smugglers have, so it's always keenly fought, but as the Smugglers have never won in the first two rounds of the FU, the BarCrawlers should start as favourites.

A new season is fast approaching and................
BANCHANG running machine Riley Knight has taken the honours on the opening day of pre-season, winning the 2km time trial for the club's first-to-fourth year players, held in wintry conditions (26C) at The Stadium.
Meanwhile midfielders Pearce Hanley and Hugh Greenwood will have delayed starts to their Pre-Season as they both recover from surgery. Hanley from a broken hand and Greenwood from an achilles problem.

FORMER first-round draft pick Tom Doedee is poised to put his hand up as Sam Docherty's replacement in the Banchang backline.

Doedee is one of several players who will get the opportunity to push for a regular spot in the Barcrawlers defence.

The departure of Docherty to Korumburra left a hole in the Barcrawlers backline, with his intercept marking and ability to spoil extremely crucial to shutting down opposition forwards.

Doedee – at 189cm – is 2cm taller, and the 20-year-old was the leading intercept marker in the 2nds this year and finished second in the Barcrawlers 2nd tier best and fairest..
