Each year we need to decide which round to hold our rep game. This year, because there is a round with 1 less game (round 9) due to Gold Coast and Port Adelaide having a bye, I propose that we hold the rep game in round 9. Other ORFF comps are having to decide what to do with round 9, but because we have 2 less teams we can simply choose not to play during that week and hold our rep game. If y'all dont want to do that, then we can look at other options. Please vote in the poll. The poll will close in 7 days.
Voted - I would rather have a slightly compromised rep game than a slightly compromised ORFFF round. Also the sooner the East can attempt to take revenge for their upset 2299-2290 Rep game loss to the East in 2016 the better. Given the 2016 Rep game was hosted by the 9th placed Rutherglen (@tyze1) using alphabetical order I would recommend the Useless Loop Virgins (@YAD69) to be the hosts in 2017, otherwise using the ladder 10th placed Wedge Island (@Bearfly) might be another more centrally located option, even Maralinga (@BrettSanders) if we want one of the new coaches to host. Any-which-way the East hosting one year and the West the next seems fair to me. Round 9 is a headache otherwise - and despite a possible loss of momentum playing rounds 8,10, then trade/delist/draft.trade, then playing round 14 to 19 and finals rounds 20 to 23 i think it is better than having reduced ORFFF squads or teams fielding donuts or "average" scores in Round 9.
Venue tbd by @Bearfly and the Board Useless Loop (alphabetical), Heard Island (9th), Wedge Island (10th last year), Neptune Island (Premiers and currently first) or Maralinga (new coach) would all be worthy Western host venues - as would Walpole, Port Lincoln and Mt Thirsty Team Nomination threads have been opened and stickied, final 22+4 player teams to be posted here by Friday morning 19th May.
9th on the ladder as at the end of the H&A season (due to the rep game being at the end of the season rather than midseason).
Cool, I guess it's a bit different this year being mid season, no need to concile the 9th place at this stage of season.
Following a suggestion by @Darran that the hosting rights be awarded to the ORFFF team that supplied the best scoring player for the West/Central team the previous season, the board decided that it appears NRoo was our best last season, so therefore the host club should be @That KI Guy Neptune Island. If all are in agreement with this then I summon all coaches to converge on Neptune Island for the festivities in Round 9 (and I order @That KI Guy to make sure the hot water is turned off in the East changerooms and force them to camp out in the cold for the entire weekend )
I suspect it will still be much warmer for the 29ers contingent than the Round 10 match down at Macquarie Island a week later.
What's even better @anthak is the simple fact that with very little infrastructure on Neptune Island to provide any comfort, the orders aren't difficult to carry out In the meantime, @MrsBear has thrown her authority around Port Lincoln to ensure that the West/Central representatives are accommodated in very plush apartments at the Port Lincoln Marina Hotel, and has ensured that a fleet of well appointed cruisers will ferry our team and supporters from Port Lincoln to Neptune Island in style But we have ensured that the East has good quality travel arrangements - we used the same incompetent travel agents that arranged Gold Coast's flights to Shanghai - so they can expect a 48 hour trip in economy class via Singapore, Outer Mongolia and Siberia
I suspect it will still be much warmer for the 29ers contingent than the Round 10 match down at Macquarie Island a week later. And wary of the oppositions obvious poor sportsmanship the Eastern team can simply bunker down at nearby Nangkita on Thursday night (the 29ers contingent will arrive on either Tuesday or Wednesday on the way back from Maralinga) then head across for the game on the Friday.
When is lockout for final teams to be announced. I think last year we had it a bit early to allow someone to write up a preview. Is that right? Are we gonna do that this season?
