It'll all come together for you next Round @JPK when the Barcrawlers come to visit minus 7 of our starting 15. Can't see our 8 scoring more than your 11.....
In a match living up to the expectations of a top 4 contest there is an epic battle going on down in the Crater. The Buffaloes midfield is doing their best to keep the home side in the contest but some of @bryzza 's young Vikings stars have got the score on the board early to put their noses in front. Into the second half it is; Nuytsland 1268/90.6/14 vs Serengeti 789/98.6/8 Some of the big Buffalo forwards are looming dangerous but they'll need to take advantage of every opportunity if they are to overcome an imposing Vikings performance
@JPK with not long left it's the Grenades 1245/14/88.9 leading the Prospectors 972/12/81. Grundy + 273 vs JPK + MacMillan + Clarke
It's full time at The Stadium and the Banchang Barcrawlers have come home with a wet sail and over-run the visiting Cow Bay Crocs in a very low scoring affair 1090-1038 Led brilliantly by ever-reliable Taylor Adams (113) Hall (109) and Lyons (95) in the middle, the locals were able to get first use of the ball, even though being outplayed in the ruck, and proceeded to give great service to the forward line, where the re-called Amon had his best game so far scoring 101, while being assisted by Higgins (89) and Langdon (78) thus enabling Banchang to kick the winning score. On the other side of the ledger, the Cow Bay forwards set an imposing score early with Cameron (119) and Patton (98) scoring almost at will and well supported by Blakely (103) in the middle and both Taranto (72) and Keays (72) off the bench. But the heat and humidity took it's toll and the Crocs ran out of legs in the 2nd half. However it took until the dying minutes of the game, after some great lead up work from Higgins, before the 4 points were secured. Meanwhile in the 2nds, played prior to the main game, Nic Newman starred in defence with 151 and looks like he may find him self back in the firsts next week when we have quite a few of the squad missing. BOG. 3. J. Cameron 119 (CBC) 2. T. Adams 113 (BB) 1. A.Hall 109 (BB) BIG TAP. Boyd (CBC) def Sinclair (BB) 51-40. Next week sees Banchang travel to the Goldfields of Western Australia to face the Prospectors from Coolgardie, while Cow Bay travel just a little further south to take on the Vikings from Nuytsland.
@bryzza In a club defining result, the Buff have got up 1501 - 1398 over the Vikings (scores pending). Can a whole team be nominated for the pooya award? Full match report to come
Pearcedale Panthers 1379 def Blanchetown Bunyips 1171 The Bunyips hosted the red-hot Panthers and the score reflected the anticipated outcome. It was consistency across every line for the Panthers whilst the Bunyips were hit and miss across all lines. Each side only had 3 players cracking the tonne, with the top scorer being big Sauce Jacobs on 141. The Panthers had 9 players score well above their season average whilst the Bunyips had 6 just make it. Not much else I can say about this week other than we were outclassed by the better team! Well done to @TigersTooTough for getting the runs on the board, who now host the Barracudas at home. The Bunyips are at home again for the 3rd straight week against the Bulls, hopefully we can use our home ground advantage this week! BOG: Jacobs - 3 votes Laird - 2 votes Parker - 1 vote Big Tap - Jacobs
Full Time at the Eden Sporting Complex and Hughenden has won 1285 to 1100. With high scores all year, the Prarie Dogs were bound to win eventually and we just happened to be the team. Our forward line fell away with Hrovat top scoring there with 63. Clayton Oliver top-scored with 142 and Nathan Jones for the Whalers was the only 100+ scorer. Zaharakis starred in the 2s with 113 but missed selection. Both teams come up against in form sides next week with Eden playing Gisborne and Hughenden playing Southern Cross. (We need the MSD soon) Eden Whalers 1100 Def: Williams 92, Tarrant 62, Andrews 77, Maynard 80 (Hartley) Mid: Curnow 68, Jones 120, Scully 95, Gibson 93 Ruck: Leuenberger 55 (Zaka) Fwd: Lynch 45, Brown 47, Hrovat 63, Jenkins 55 (Cunningham) IC: Atkins 80, Crisp 68 Hughenden Prarie Dogs 1285 Def: Bradley Sheppard 48, Lee Spurr 77, Callum Mills 89, Darcy Byrne-Jones 57 (Griffin Logue) Mid: Callan Ward 82, Dylan Shiel 83, Clayton Oliver 142, Ricky Henderson 87 (Ben Howlett) Ruc: Aaron Sandilands 104 Fwd: Elliott Yeo 109, Luke Breust 95, Levi Greenwood 64, Tim Membrey 64 (Josh Green) Int: Liam Shiels 104, Nick Graham 80 BAFFU: Oliver 3, Jones 2, Yeo 1
Injury Crisis! Coniglio - 10 weeks Rocky - ???? Hill - 1 - 2 weeks Griffen 5 -7 weeks The Bulls midfield has been decimated - bring on the byes! Our 3rd syndesmosis injury of the year, a word unknown to the Bulls fitness staff prior to the start of this year. A promising start to the season is perhaps starting to spiral out of control!
Gisborne Grenades 1310 defeated Coolgardie Prospectors 1229 by 81 points After crisis talks at the club 3 weeks ago, Gisborne have continued their record breaking streak, beating Coolgardie to manage 3 wins on the trot. On the other hand, Coolgardie fall to an even 4-4 and sit eighth (it should be noted that with only one fewer win a team sits 16th, highlighting how close the ladder is!) So, by now you should be wondering how this all happened. Let me explain. Gisborne had 12 players score above their average. 80%. Coolgardie had 5. 33%. Those numbers don't lie - Gisborne simply overachieved while Coolgardie underachieved. Starting at the back, Nathan Wilson had a club best 99 for the Grenades, while no Prospector really got going. There was a bit more gold found in the midfield, with JPK finally reminding us why he is a star with 136. Unfortunately, this was matched by Billings, who had the best game of his career. Neale continued to use his broad shoulders which have carried the team for many years (how about that last centre clearance hey Tiger fans!) with 129 while Masten also hit 103. No other Prospector midfielder managed over 90. Witts continued his incredible season with another Big Tap win, 97 to Mumford's 87. Stefan Martin on the IC scored 125, which would have been a winning score, and opposition coaches continue to be astonished by the strange selection decisions potentially costing Martin a prestigious award. Steele and Douglas benefited from the tap work with 114 and 101 but Fantasia also had one of his best games for Coolgardie, smashing out a 115. In the end, Gisborne were very lucky to cop Coolgardie on a bad week while they themselves had a good week. I honestly believe Coolgardie have the potential to be a top 4 team, and if they don't finish in the top 8 from here I'd be very surprised. However, both teams could be facing defeats this coming week with 4 players missing from each team due to the GC and PTA bye. BAFFU 3. Billings 136 2. Josh P Kennedy 136 1. Lachie Neale @JPK
The Bulls are bleeding now, not looking good, hopefully some rookies can be injected & get this going. The Barracuda's 1,374 defeated the Bulls 1,162. Full report to come.
Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,374 defeated Staghorn Flat (Bulls) 1,161 Round 7 seen both teams have solid wins all starting from the centre, a place not for the faint hearted. On paper this week these 2 teams were very evenly matched, however that’s where the comparison stopped. Having names like Rockliff, Coniglio and Hill normally strike fear in opposing teams however in the jungle the Barracuda’s have Bontempelli, Hannebery, Cripps and Zorko. It’s the Clash of the Titan’s. Rocky got it over the Bont, however the home teams colours flew higher with Zorko, Hannebery and Cripps muscling their way around the paddock to give a football lesson to the visitors. The big men tapped, bumped and crashed their way through the game with big McEvoy taking the honours. For the home team Lloyd loving his new role running off half back did a number on Lynch which curtailed the Bulls scoring output. Burgoyne has still got it while for the visitors Roughy was gallant and showed great strength and character. At the business end for the Barracuda’s Hawkin’s stood tall with Phillips backing him up. Salem kept Guthrie guessing all day and has been cleared by the MRP for pushing the Ump. Off the interchange Cotchin and Lewis battled it out against Selwood and Weller. It was always going to get rough but that’s just the way the Barracuda’s roll. The home side takes the points and the Bulls take home battered and bruised bodies and will be looking for to the mid-season break. The Barracuda’s will need to keep their game going as they take on the Panthers who improved big time in round 8 to easily knocked off the Bunyips. BOG awards 3 Patrick Cripps (157) 2 Tom Rockliff (147) 1 Daniel Hannebery (134)
In a battle of two talented young teams that found themselves both in the top 4 at this early stage of the season, the stage was set for an epic encounter and the Buffaloes and Vikings did not disappoint. There were some somewhat messy circumstances at kickoff with young Harry Perryman being named for his Serengeti debut but Clay Smith was so keen to build on his first game of the year in round 5 he got out on the ground first and impressed coaches with his enthusiasm to the point that he got a late call up. While his individual performance may not have matched the level of his enthusiasm, his teammates after the game all made comment about the passion he had on display inspiring them on to bigger and better things. The match evolved into a true shootout with some massive scores being put up with the Buffaloes being led by midfield millionaire Josh Kelly (147) while the Vikinks were just as well led in that area by Tom Mitchell (135). Kelly took charge of the rest of the Serengeti midfield brigade and dragged them along with him as the whole group put up a real team effort to give the Buffaloes a real chance of pulling off the upset. Zac Merrett (137), Dangerfield (112) & Steven (110) all came to play and joined Kelly in willing their team along. The Vikings mids weren't backing down from the challenge though and young bull Jack Viney (130) was willing his side to stay in the contest although Matt Crouch (79) let his coach down in what was turning out to be a match where only real top end performances were going to be enough. Inspired by their new backline partner Clay Smith, Harbrow (105), Pittard (102) & May (91) rallied arround Smith as the Buffaloes defence made sure that the few opportunities the Vikings forwards weren't able to take advantage of were transitioned into attacking threats for the Buffaloes. Unfortunately for the visitors this is where things fell down for them. Unable to cope with the physical presence of the Buffalo beasts in the Serengeti forward line, the Vikings defence was overwhelmed and all underperformed, highlighted by Bailey Williams (43) which stood out in such a high performing game. With Billy Longer (69) sent out to play a defensive role on his Vikings counterpart Brodie Grundy (82) in the ruck after the Serengeti match committee were worried about the damage the Nuytsland ruckmen might do being released as a sole ruckmen, there were reports coming out late in the game that it may be decided by the the Buffaloes big forward line if they were able to take advantage of their opportunities. Fortunately for the home side they all came to the party. For large parts of the final quarter Sam Reid (127) and Isaac Heeney (130) were going goal for goal with Reid being well assisted by Joe Daniher (106) and Heeney leaning on partner in forward crime Christian Petracca (121). Jack Riewoldt (91) and Charlie Dixon (90) chipped in with some important goals at the right time for the home side and the Buffaloes were marching towards a famous victory for the club. This was a contest of the highest quality and in the end the even spread of midfield performance and advantage the Buffaloes were able to get from their defensive line pushed them over the line as they ran out victors 1501 to 1398. Club officials were heard commenting that this was the biggest win in the young clubs history considering it came against a team they greatly admire and consider the main premiership threat to the rest of the competition. The win also propelled the Buffaloes to the top of the ladder for the first time ever while the Vikings remain firmly entrenched in the top 4 and will no doubt rebound to continue their push towards finals success. BAFFU Votes 3 Josh Kelly 147 (SB) 2 Zac Merrett 137 (SB) 1 Tom Mitchell 135 (NV) The joy may be shortlived for the Serengeti faithful as they somehow drew the shortstraw in round 9 and will host an almost full strength Blowflys outfit without a number of key players while the Vikings will look to bounce back quickly against the Crocs of Cow Bay back at home in Nuytsland.
