Hello people, it's that time again! In two weeks time we will start the bye rounds, which means State of Origin gets a run. Whilst I think the format from last time worked well, I'm always open to hearing peoples opinions on how it could be run better, which I can then take a nanosecond to think about before I tell you all to get stuffed (trade week is coming and I need to warm up). So with that in mind, let's open the discussion: Teams making up the sides: The Vic/Tas teams consists of players from the following sides: Charlie's Opening Spelunkers Cradle Mountain Devils Darraweit Guim Dirigibles Gariwerd Cockatoos Lovely Banks Lilacs Mount Beauty Uglies Nunawading Nuffers Venus Bay Vultures Wineglass Bay Packers The Rest/Stench/Others were comprised of: Birdsville Battlers Foul Bay Cheaters Chickens Gundagai Grasshoppers Iron Knob Codpieces Larrikin Lagoon Lefties Marble Bar Misfits Wagga Wagga Wombats Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles Whitsunday Warriors Format... I suggest that the coaches from each ORFFA team all contribute to the representative team selection based on their region. we could do that in two separate threads to allow discussion and sledging/banter. Scoring is same style as ORFFA, with one small twist... we take the single highest score from the player selected over the three bye rounds. Highest total team score takes away the choccies. Have at it with suggestions in the thread below... I'm happy to do the scoring etc as per last time
One change I would like to propose is a rule that each 15 player squad has to have at least one representative from each team in their sides. This stops the cobalt cheating chooks dominating the selection table
Good with that and all other ideas in the first post mate, worked very well last year once I worked out how it was in fact working
Excellent work Banditto. The minimum of one player from each ORFFA side is a nice twist. PS - I like those peppermint centre choccies.
As an early lead in to side selection.... here are the respective leaders for each position from each team. I need to work on my duplicate filters obviously!
I'll throw in a first crack at the Vic/Tas team: Def: Sam Docherty (VBV), Michael Hurley (CMD), Kade Simpson (NN), Alex Rance (DGD) Mid: Marcus Bontempelli (COS), Rory Sloane (WBP), Zac Merrett (COS), Jack Steven (GC) Ruck: Stefan Martin (VBV) Fwd: Elliot Yeo (VBV), Isaac Heeney (LBL), Toby Nankervis (CMD), Nick Riewoldt (MBU) Bench: Brad Ebert (NN), Jack Viney (MBU) Representation breakdown: Charlie's Opening Spelunkers 2 Cradle Mountain Devils 2 Darraweit Guim Dirigibles 1 Gariwerd Cockatoos 1 Lovely Banks Lilacs 1 Mount Beauty Uglies 2 Nunawading Nuffers 2 Venus Bay Vultures 3 Wineglass Bay Packers 1 Jack Viney and Jack Steven in because they are red hot right now, everyone else based on average.
Thank you for the "votes" of confidence, am happy to submit a team for review. However, @ChiefRussell and @jimbowan did such an outstanding job last year they should continue if they have the time.
This google sheet has been updated to reflect this weeks stats... I have also added tabs for the full Vic/Tas and Others playing lists. I can't be arsed trying to figure out the duplicates.... so refer to the full players list for who the other players on the same scores are Have at it people, there are some very interesting selection conundrums One more round of normal ORFFA stuff and then we are into it (and the MSD)
Finals teams to be nominated by Thursday 1 June at 5PM AEST... the first game for the first bye round kicks off at 7:40 that night
Oh, and if I take the top 15 players by average score for each team (ignoring having 1 player from each ORFFA team for a minute), Vic/Tas totals 1630 and The Others total 1648.... it's going to be a lot closer than last year people
As the most idle franchise holder of The Best (aka the Rest) group a first stab at a team to represent us is presented. Please have at it fellow Besties. It is based on players I identified from rounds 8 and 9. If someone is an injury risk / suspended please advise. Likewise if a superior player is coming back from injury / suspension advise. D - T McDonald (BIB), T Adams (GGH), D Roberton (IKC), R Laird (MBM) M - Danger (FBC), M Murphy (MBM), T Mitchell (WKI), S Ross (LLL) R - Mummy (FBC) F - Buddy (WWW), JJK (WSW), L Dalhaus (FBC), J Macrae (IKC) I/C - Rocky (GGH), L Neale (GGH) Representation: Birdsville Battlers - 1 Foul Bay Chickens - 3 Gundagai Grasshoppers - 3 Iron Knob Codpieces - 2 Larrikin Lagoon Lefties - 1 Marble Bar Misfits - 2 Wagga Wagga Wombats - 1 Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles - 1 Whitsunday Warriors - 1
Rocky is 'due' back week 12 after the Lions week 11 bye - but will be a huge watch based on his shoulder. Would probs prefer Ginger Oliver over Seb Ross in the Mids Argument for Goldy or even Ryder (3 full games) over Mummy based on recent form.
Thanks SnOz: If Rocky is proppy we have Oliver, GAJ, Shoey, Jelwood and Kelly as alternates. Last year's losers came up with the "must include a player from each club" rule. We have to have a goon and it seemed to me Seb Ross is the best option from the "motley crew". R was difficult, one of Mummy, Paddy, Goldy is fine. Not wedded to any of them.
I like this idea but i havent yet had time to set up a thread or start discussions for the big V, nor has anyone else it seems. Could the stench please take your business elsewhere?
I like snoz's ideas, my thoughts on the three points; 1. They only need to play one large game, but see point two 2. Totally agree with your point Graeme, Ross then nada 3. See point one, surely that's Goldy? How do we rock emergencies for this @Bandit ?
