Vikings run away with the victory, as the visiting Cudas run out legs. Vikings 1416/15/94 Cudas 1274/14/91
My bad, I had Redpath's score wrong so looks like you'll be taking home one bag containing the hope of a lower draft pick Crocs by 6!
Blanchetown Bunyips 1147 def Eden Whalers 1080 In a tight tussle all weekend, both teams had the potential to score well. Ahh, potential! Down back both sides struggled with Jarryn Geary (77) top scoring for both sides whilst guns Laird and Zac Williams both failing to fire. New Bunyip recruit Sam Frost was very underwhelming with 57 points. In the Mids, Billy Stretch (109) took the honours for the homeside with Scully, Curnow and Gibson all failing to meet their season averages. For the homeside Robbie Gray (146) was a standout with Dependlebury (109) chipping in with some handy points. Sam Jacobs collected the Big Tap point this week against Tom Papley (OOP) with Eden not having any fit Rucks take the field. Up Forward, the visitors had the high consistent scores whilst the homeside had scoring all over the shop with Lambert (117) a possible POOYA and Silvangi (33) spudding it up. Josh Jenkins (84) provided a handy loophole emergency for @HOLKY. The visitors bench were impressive with Zaha (105) and Jack Crisp (90) both scoring very nicely. Overall, a good hard match with both sides players showing up, but failing to fire. Thanks for the good hard match up @HOLKY, it was a close one! BOG - R Gray - 3 K Lambert - 2 B Stretch - 1 S Pendlebury - 1 Next week the Whalers are at home to the Buffaloes and their awesome midfield, whilst the Bunyips are at home again against the Parasites!
Bulls Gropers Match Report In a match reminiscent of their 1 point thriller last year the Gropers have taken a 35 point victory over a disappointed Bulls outfit 1199 - 1164 Injuries played a big part in the game, Fyfe didn't make the start line (Cunnington was a able replacement), 2 Bulls went down in the third quarter which was counteracted as new Groper Selwood made a not so pleasant return to Mill Park where he was KO'ed just after the opening bounce. Ex Gropers Whitfield and Hoskin-Elliott both made excellent debuts for the home team whilst the selection committee will have explaining to do after dropping Fasolo whose last start was 87 points in favor of Lang. Fasolo's 75 points would have seen this result go the other way! It was the Gropers defensive line who collectively carved out 420 points that was the difference in the end although this included McGovern's 119 who despite being named back played forward as @eagle_eyed adopted a back 3 in line with Ange Postecoglou's Socceroos. It was not all doom and gloom for the Bulls, youngsters B Hill 130, & L Weller 114 both shone as did the new recruits mentioned earlier, however it is 4 losses on the trot now and the Bulls will need to turn their season around if finals are to beckon in 2017. Well done to Southern Cross who extent their winning streak to 7. Votes: 3 B Hill SFB 2 B Cunnington SCS 1 J McGovern SCS Big Tap - B McEvoy
Smugglers/Monarchs review “The less said the better” Christmas Island have pushed their way back into the top 8 after a dour win 1186 - 1016 at Flying Fish Cove Park. The loss sees the Monarchs fall out of the top 8 for the first time since round 2, and are one of the seven teams on either 6 or 5 wins that look like fighting it out for the bottom 2 places in the 8. In a midfield performance that is sure to have @Tylo forcing plenty of 440s on his team, not a single midfielder hit their average, with Murphy, Priddis, Boak and Swallow combining for a measly 276 points. The Smugglers midfield managed to take the honours in that match-up, despite losing Dayne Beams (12 points) in the second minute of the game and Dyson Heppell (54) going AWOL also. Debutant Bailey Dale (85) was the Smugglers’ best performed forward, but would have learnt from his proximity to two of the best performed Monarchs in backmen Houli (119) and Rance (115). Macrae was everywhere for the visitors collecting 32 touches and making 10 tackles to emerge with 2 BAFFU points. However, he couldn’t compete with the combined influence of the 2 best Smugglers, both in this game and for the season so far in Kreuzer and Dusty. In what has become a familiar sight for Smugglers fans Kreuzer continued to feed the ball to Martin (especially easy this week as he was unopposed in the ruck), while also drifting forward to kick a couple of majors. While Dusty didn’t hit the scoreboard, he did set up most of the Smugglers’ attack, with 30 disposals and 7 inside 50s. In fact these two have formed such a lethal combination this year both are sitting inside the BAFFU’s top 10. However, the true BOG performance has to go to the Smugglers’ Gold sponsor, the Australian Border Force, who (possibly with the knowledge of the home coach) did not let five Monarchs disembark their charter, causing 2 donuts for the visitors. While this all but guaranteed the win for the home team, local fans were disappointed as the predicted nail-bitter looked on the cards prior to the Border Force intervention, with the averages of those able to take the field being incredibly close: Smugglers - 79.1 to Monarchs - 78.2. Next week sees King Island continue their tour of the FU Islands, heading to Groote Eylandt to take on the Barracudas. While the Smugglers head to Coolgardie to play @JPK Tankers Prospectors, in a match that both coaches will be hoping the Smugglers win comfortably. BAFFU M. Kreuzer – 135, CIS J. Macrae – 122, KIM D. Martin – 121, CIS Big Tap M. Kreuzer (unopposed).
Nuytsland welcomed the circling Cudas to Viking land, the visitors have had the water over the home team who was looking to secure there 1st place while needing to have a win over a contender. Nuytsland wanting to remove the stigma of "flat track bullys" Grundy 93 got the home team of to a flyer, while the visiting stand in ruckman Stanley 65 moved over the field ever so delicately not wanting his perfect hair to come out of place. In the middle Viney 127 was on world record pace for contested possessions before a few heavy knocks slowed him down, to his credit he came back and ended with 26 CP and a total 38 possessions. Crouch 130 also flew the flag high with 35 possessions, new recurit SMitchell 97 stood tall but fellow team mates Sheuy 87 Ross 87 did everything possible to hand the advantage to there opponents with their worst performances of the year. For the visitors twin towers in the middle the Bont 139 Cripps 134 pulled the lead back, but magic man Zorko 52 threw a disappearing act while almost catching stall warts Cotchin 90 Lewis 80 Up forward Greene 128 put on a masterclass with Heeney 104 having a break out year, Petracca 58 looked lost for the first time matched the waiter 100 and young gun Phillips 84 while princess Hawkins 78 was just looking pretty dragging the team down. Down back the game was hanging by a Vikings blade, Birchall 102 back into the team has been sorely missed with evergreen Montagna 98 giving the critics the bird as the visitors tried to stay in the game Burgoyne 123 Llyod 99 having a fine year and first year player Berry 77 almost took victory but where was Dea and reserve Sutcliffe? one man down still would have got the win for Cudas. Cow Bay 1,092 defeated Coolgardie 1,086 The Crocs came back fresh from the mid season byes to record another win in 2017, this time defeating the Prospectors by 6 points to notch up win number 3 for the year. It was a lucky escape for the Crocs with only 5 players scoring above the average of 75. New recruit Conor McKenna led the way down back with 71 points and it looks as if this year's number 1 PSD pick McGrath is starting to tire only managing 45 points. Blakely led the mids with DeGoey just doing what he had to to get to 75 points. But it was Patton (156) and Cameron (133) who were the stars of the homeside helping themselves to goal after goal. Jack Martin (99) also did his bit and another new recruit Nick Robertson (92) also did his best to lift those around him. Particularly disappointing were Libba (40), Acres (36), and McDonald (38). Lonergan (30) did his best as ruck fill in for the day but couldn't compete against Stefan Martin (128). The Prospectors had the perfect opportunity to take advantage against an out of position ruck but the hitouts seemed to go straight to the Croc's Blakely for most of the day being the only mid to score over 100. Wines was the best mid for the visitors with a 96 while Touk Miller (81) did his best to pull his weight. Astbury was the best in the defensive half with a score of 70 but was let down by others around him with MacMillian (64) being the next best. The forwards also struggled during the day with emergency Sicily (93) being the best in front of goal. It was Coolgardie's tall timber that came off the bench in Daw (70) and Petrie (113) that did their best to drag the team over the line. The win allows the Crocs to stay off the bottom of the ladder for another week while the loss sees Coolgardie slip to 7th and a little bit closer to a top 10 pick in next year's PSD Big Tap Martin 128 def Lonergan 30 BAFFU 3 Patton, Cow Bay (156) 2 Cameron, Cow Bay (133) 1 Martin, Coolgardie (128)
Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1240 def Pearcedale Panthers 1154 After a disappointing start to the season Hughenden came back from the break refreshed to secure their second win of the season. Hughenden had winners all over the ground and were on top most of the day with Shiel (143), Ward (116), Oliver (113) getting plenty of the ball through the middle giving the forwards plenty of opportunities to score. Although, the forward line failed to function with new recruit Garlett (14) unsettling the structure with Breust (24) unable to contribute at his usual standard. It was the former Panther – Membrey (86) that held it all together to ensure a winning score was kicked. Hughenden’s backline was steady with strong contributions from Mills (104) and Henderson (113). Archie “stingray” Smith (34) was less than impressive this week in the ruck and will be under some pressure at the selection table this week to hold his spot. Pearcedale persisted throughout the day with their main contributors being Howe (125), Ellis (119), Hunter (113) and Parker (104) but with KK missing the flight (couldn’t fight his name on the ticket!!!) and no reserve to fill his boots it was always going to be a tough game to win at the Dino Dome. Game highlight was Oliver’s stage dive and twitter outburst just before half time, the youth today watch too much soccer and Trump tweets. His phone has been taken away and he is banned from watching soccer for a week. A reinvigorated Hughenden will be looking for their 3rd win of the season when they host the visiting Staghorn Flat Bulls who are just outside the 8 and Pearcedale remain on the road with a long journey to Banchang to get their season back on track. BAFFU Awards 3 Shiel, Hughenden (143) 2 Howe, Pearcedale (125) 1 Ellis, Pearcedale (119)
@tyze1 great write up. I thought it was over Sunday after Selwood's 45 seconds as a Sandgroper came to a grinding halt. Our match ended up being Lynch v Prestia plus 18 points. I still can't believe that Prestia's spud score of 58 was enough to win the match. Lynch could have won it but posted a sub 40 points score for the second week in a row. Great match!
sorry for no write up @wrightbrendan been crook as a dog since late last week. Still not real beaut but have managed to crawl out of bed and onto the pc. To summarise our match: you drilled me. your midfield dominated. all my blokes were shit. well played.
Bulls do it again in bringing back the biff... sorry not sorry @Batfink Mills KO'd this week after Selwood the week before.
That explains the reluctance for the players wanting to play against the Bulls, I'm going to need something special from someone, or will they all choke to leave me at the bottom of the table.
