Since Mills being KO'd in the first 4 minutes of the game, it has been all the Bulls, score update shortly once the lynch mob returns.
@insider's Armadillos have broken the Sandgropers 7 match winning streak with a 100 odd point win. Disappointing result for the home side but we'll take 8&4.
If my earlier update was an "oh boy" then BT has given this one a "WOWEEEEEE"! With a fantastic Saints win Gisborne ended up on 1284, by my calculations just scraping through over Nuytsland who finished on 1277. I wouldn't count on it though knowing my maths, but if true, this is a huge scalp for the perennial ladder anchors away against the unchallenged top-scoring and ladder leading team!
REPORT FROM BANCHANG. Full time at The Stadium sees the visiting Pearcedale Panthers score a convincing win over the Barcrawlers 1233-1147. As expected, the visitors finished too strongly for the locals, overpowering them in the final quarter 303 -163 with Mundy 95 and Burton 91 leading the way. Bastinac with 99 tried to stem the tide but was let down by Adams who had his worse game for the Barcrawlers with 64. BOG. 3. Lyons BB 138 2. Parker PP 129 1. Nankervis PP 108 1. Out in the Goldfields, Coolgardie have fallen over the line against @DamoH Christmas Island by 111 points Coolgardie: 1084 / 15 / 72.3 Christmas Island: 973 / 14 (15) / 69.5 (64.9) Being a man down from the start, and then losing two more, the Smugglers should never have been in this, but some absolutely woeful performances by many Prospectors caused this game to be so much closer than it should have been. Full report to follow.
The Barracudas finish up on 1,244/15 82.9and the Monarchs put up 1,062/15 70.8 Match Report to come soon.
A good win from the Buffaloes which helps them secure a place in the top 4 led by Dangerfield reminding everyone why he won the BAFFU last year. Mumford won in the ruck as a good trade move and the regulars performed well, we probably would have had trouble with this side at our best. As for the Whalers, we weren't at our best. Key outs, loss of form, bad luck, call it what you will but we move on. We get this out of our system and we rebuild. We are only 2 games out of the 8 but Cow Bay next week are at the strongest they have been. Serengeti round out their tour next week against Pearcedale in what should be a defining game for both sides heading towards finals. Match Report Round 15, Coolgardie Prospectors hosting Christmas Island Smugglers @DamoH Coolgardie 1084 / 72.3 defeated Christmas Island 973 / 64.9 (81.1 average with only 12 players) by 111 points. After selling off everything except the steak knives during the mid-season, and a heartbreaking loss last week, the Prospectors were back at home hosting the Budgie Smugglers from Christmas Island (although recent reports show that Christmas Island is trying to increase tourism, and thus should have been hosting the boys from the Goldfields). The Budgies were already a little short, turning up with just 14 players and no emergencies, and then when M Williams and D Menzel broke down during the warm up, it looked like a serious uphill battle for the visitors. The home team managed to turn up with a full 15, but this advantage didn't translate to the scoreboard. The Budgies had some serious goes at the pill, with a really solid per player team average. Defence: Prospectors - new recruit D Astbury (68) was the only defender who even looked like he turned up to play for the home side, while utility M Baguley (65) and stalwart J Macmillan (51) didn't seem to care, and youngster J Ramsay (39) was all at sea. Budgies - the visitors M Johnson (101) was superb in defence, ably supported by J Lever (80). H Hartlett (65) was below his best, while M Williams was seen heavily strapped in the changerooms, playing AFL Evolution on the X-Box. Christmas Island won by 32 points, 246 to 214, even being a man down. Midfield: Prospectors - eyebrows were raised when the coach allowed the bloke with the greatest initials in the league to walk during the mid-season, and even more eyebrows are being raised right now as the midfield struggles without him. O Wines (80) was the only mid who wasn't absolutely terrible, while T Miller (67) has to start delivering on the promise he's shown, B Ebert (58) has to get out of the hole he's fallen into after such a promising start to the season, and R Clarke (50) has to stand up and take the opportunities presented to him. Smugglers - for the visitors, D Martin (121) was D Martin-like, and stiff to miss the choccies, while D Heppell (88) and D Tyson (82) were both serviceable. L Dunstan (53) needs to change his first name to play well in this midfield, because clearly the "D's" have it! Christmas Island won by 89 points, 344 to 255. Rucks: Prospectors - "why wasn't I always the number one" ruckman S Martin (95) put in an average performance this week, and was lucky to fall over the line in the big tap. Budgies - It was a real close one, with M Kreuzer (90) putting up a strong fight. Watching two front-line ruckmen go head-to-head was quite a sight. Coolgardie won by 5 points, 95 to 90. Forwards: Prospectors - J Westhoff (114) was a standout up forward for the locals, dragging his teammates into the game. J Sicily (87) has been taking his chances well in recent weeks, while O Fantasia (86) is repaying the faith shown by the coach. M Wright (57) had a shocker, and will be hoping to atone for it next week. Smugglers - L Taylor (109) was everywhere in the vacant visitors forward line, while I Smith (63) and B Dale (61) were watching their teammate in awe. Unfortunately being a man down really hurt the visitors here. Coolgardie won by 111 points, 344 to 233. Interchange: Prospectors - coming off the bench was rookie of the year D Petrie (123) in a BoG performance, showing that even the inexperienced kids can play this game well, while teammate and fellow tall M Daw (44) looked all at sea in this one. Budgies - There looked to be a fair amount of space in the visitors dugout, and it wasn't until halfway through the game that the locals clicked to the fact that the space was all due to the visitors only having one man on the pine. That man, S Grigg (60), wasn't really impressive, putting in a below average performance, which would have been difficult to watch for the Christmas Island coaching staff. Coolgardie won by 107 points, 167 to 60. In the end it was a comfortable win by the locals, but it brings no confidence to the side knowing that the visitors were so much better, they were just undermanned. Big tap award goes to S Martin, Coolgardie, defeating M Kreuzer by 5 points. The votes: 3 - D Petrie, Coolgardie, 123 2 - D Martin, Christmas Island, 121 1 - J Westhoff, Coolgardie, 114 Next week sees Coolgardie on the road to Ararat to face the Armadillos. Christmas Island will be back at home, hosting the Hughenden Prairie Dogs. Good luck to all teams.
Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,244 defeated King Island (Monarchs) 1,062 The Monarchs come to Groote Eylandt with memories of round 5 last year when they made their trek here and came off second best. King Island have struggled since round 4 this year even after the mid-year break. The home side will be looking to get back into the winning books after the Vikings gave out a footy lesson. For the visitors Rance lead the defensive line at every turn, Broadbent and Henderson were solid deep in defence unfortunately for Gardiner he hyperextended his left elbow whist being gang tackled in the first quarter and took no further part in the game. The home sides young Berry put in some great efforts around the ground, Bob Murphy played the locked down role first week back and Lloyd and Burgoyne ran amuck across half back through the centre. In a surprise to all Stanley took the honours in the big tap stakes up against his nemeses Zach Smith. The battlelines for the centre is where the most blood is spilt. The match up of the day was young Corn boy Cripps up against Marc Murphy in a battle of brawn and brain. With a goal in his pocket Cripps starred on his home turf. The magic was also back for Zorko the Magnificent as he performed for the crowd. Hannebery and the Bont were solid all day as were their counterparts of Swallow and Rosa. Rohan came in for the calf strained JJK and put in good effort but couldn’t convert, Betts was very quiet turning left when he should have turned right but still bagged 2, the pressure was too much for Walker and Macrae having plenty of the pill also couldn’t get it through the big sticks. Hawkins slotted the first for the match and then the big man Waite took over and had 19 possessions and slammed through 4 big ones for the home side really making the difference between the two sides. Hannan and Phillips backed up solidly. For both teams, the bench was just that, not much happening there. The home side takes the points in this close game against their islander brothers from across the way. Some great individual performances and some momentum going forward for the Barracuda’s and for the Monarch they’ve been push further down the ladder and will need to do some sole searching from here. BOG awards 3 Patrick Cripps (126) 2 Dayne Zorko (119) 1 Shaun Burgoyne (113)
Nuytsland welcomed Gisborne down at Viking Land where the league leaders needed to consolidate top spot, but against a team who is coming of age this would prove to be a danger game. The coach however decided it would be a good time to take leave, a decision the board questioned. Bounce down Grundy 105 ran around the ground gathering 21 possessions and 29 hit outs, is in top form proving he can only score well after the byes outplaying former teammate Witts 100, although dominating the hit outs with 45 just did not have the stamina to follow and even when he got a touch his efficiency of 42% cost him the big tap. In the middle total domination by Vikings Crouch 132 TMitchell 128 Ross 109 all looking a million $$$'s but once again Sheuy 87 mid season form slump is a major concern, for the visitors Neale 117 and Stevens 106 kept them in the hunt unfortunately Masten 45 tattooed himself of the team and looks to be on the outta again. Down back Vikings piegons and +1's were sorely missed Roberton 60 Montagna 71 Birchell 56 under performed with only Rampe 95 helped out by a staggering 95% efficiency, on the other side Wilson 104 Grundy 82 Hamling 79 kept there noses in front repelling and intercepting marks at ease. Up front Greene rolled an ankle stepping on a axe left from the previous battle, luckly we had an emergancy in Mclean 86 who had proved he is worthy of a starting position over Motlop 53 no goals and Petracca 65 too many handballs but two goals both needing to make an impact when being pushed into the middle. In what has been a master stroke recruiting Jones 117 while collecting 12 CP but the win ultimately came from Steele 106 only touched the ball 15 times in the end it was a club record 17 tackles that got the club the win. On the interchange tough nut Viney 60 fooled the club doctors playing when he should not have did not return after half time, coach is furious he was allowed to play as we had two tons sitting in the emergencies costing us the win. Fiorini 97 threw one last grenade into the hearts of the home team taking a well deserved win. Adding to our misery Viney out for 6 and Birchell a knee injury 3 Crouch 2 TMitchell 128 1 Neale 117 @Tomster
Thanks for the report, think it was a case of Nutsy having an off-week while Gisborne had a good week - the only way a Grenades win was possible. St Kilda vs Fremantle was nail-biting for sure given it's impact here!
Staghorn Flat Bulls 1183 def Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1053 It was a heated contest early with the Bulls showing their muscle to defeat a lacklustre Hughenden. Hughenden were a man down within the first 4 minutes of the game after Mills (0) kept antagonising the travelling emergency Bugg for not making the on field team, took one step too close to the boundary and Bugg clocked him. A disappointing action which will cost Bugg a few games. From that point on Hughenden lacked drive and was disappointing all over the ground with the only highlights being Ward (132) and Breust (100). The Bulls were fired up following the Bugg incident and had winners on every line with Mayes (112); you can’t find me for testing Whitfield (130) and Lynch (126) the standouts. Hughenden’s situation was not helped with Sandilands (12) an early exit from the game with a season ending hamstring injury. Whilst the monolith has signed on for 2018 it appears his body might not have, time will tell. Overall it highlighted why Hughenden are sitting at the bottom of the table and the revamped Bulls outfit powering up the table. BAFFU Awards 3 Ward, Hughenden (132) 2 Whitfield, Staghorn (130) 1 Lynch, Staghorn (126)
Southern Cross Sandgropers 1265 def by @insider's Ararat Armadillos 1369 To say there was a big build up to this match in Southern Cross would be an understatement. With the home town Sandgropers coming in on a 7 game winning streak and Ararat sitting one win and 4 points behind on the ladder this one was a genuine 8 point game. In perfect conditions for football the game got underway. Early on Hibberd 110 continued his stellar season and was equal to T.McDonald 117 but Harmes 37 found himself up against Gawn 96 and Vince 74 handing Ararat an early lead of 140 points. The Sandgropers charged back into the match and with a numerical advantage McGovern 115, Crouch 121 and Ryder 127 all put in great performances. Theses scores however only just managed to paper over the cracks with 4 other players scoring under 66 points. Gibbs 142 and Wingard 109 fought bravely for the Armadillos but it wasn't enough to prevent the home side overturning the deficit to post a lead of 217 points. The tables suddenly turned as Ararat was now fielding 6 players versus Southern Cross's 2. As hard as Fyfe 84 & Hurley 98 tried they just couldn't stem the tide as a great team performance saw Treloar 103 and Parish 91 lead they way for the visitors. Ararat 15/1369/91 stormed home to win the match and put an end to Southern Cross's 15/1265/84 club record 7 match winning streak. So that was it. An even performance from Ararat with only one player scoring under 74. The visitors close the gap on the ladder to 'points for' only and take their head to head record against Southern Cross to 4-0. A bit disappointing that Selwood didn't play but I'd prefer him to play 4 years rather than 2. As Banchang are only fielding 13 players this round, I thought it should be announced the reasons behind the team selection, before The Barcrawlers get accused of tanking..... INJURED.
