Warriors making the longest road/sea/air trip in ORFFA this weekend and, quite frankly, we are not looking forward to a hiding. Hopefully the corned silverside in a white onion sauce chased by a pinot will ease the pain. Ah, the 2017 edition of the Pinot Cup. The welcome will be warm TiB, especially from Chelsea. However, some potentially bad news; after some experimentation the corned silverside will be acompanied by a mustard sauce rather than your preferred white onion sauce. This variation has become a firm favourite at the Bulls Hit Tavern - we hope you will enjoy it. The pinot is both plentiful and high quality, which is not a bad combo. We have been experimenting with some cider strains and think there is a version or two you might enjoy instead of the traditional cleansing ale. Not sure about might, but I have gone from boiled lollies to chocolates in terms of options for selection: Here is the team to get smashed by the Marble Bar behemoth, the big fella Darcy gets a run on the bench, and this might be the last hurrah for the Frenchman, I'm only naming him because Le Tour is on DEF: Cale Hooker, Oscar McDonald, Luke Brown, Jake Carlisle (Shane Savage) MID: Zac Merrett, Marcus Bontempelli, Stephen Hill, Mark Blicavs (Liam Duggan) RUCK: Ben McEvoy FWD: Jack Gunston, Mitch McGovern, Jack Lonie, Mark LeCras (Jack Bowes) INT: Sean Darcy, Sam Petrevski-Seton (Oliver Florent)

Cradle Mountain Devils Round 13 team In: L Spurr Out: S Gilbert (omitted) Def: M Hurley, Z Jones, J Lever, L Spurr (M Boyd) Mid: S Pendlebury, D Zorko, D Heppell, S Grigg (J Redden) Ruc: T Nankervis Fwd: J Steele, W Hoskin-Elliot, T Membrey, C Pedersen (J Gresham) Inter: D Zaharakis, L Shiels (Jordan Roughead) The Cradle Mountain Devils had their easiest match committee meeting for quite some time and have made only one change for the Round 13 match against traditional ORFFA powerhouse - the Foul Bay Chickens, with Lee Spurr replacing Sam Gilbert in the D4 spot. It was a 50/50 call between the duo last round and as has been common in recent weeks the Devils pushed the wrong lever. Gilbert scored 45 and was concussed late in the third quarter whilst Spurr racked up a ton resulting in an easy decision to make the change this week. After Round 5 Cradle Mountain were undefeated in second spot and ranked fourth for total points scored whilst Foul Bay were third with four wins and the second most points scored. Over seven rounds from Round 6 to Round 12 the Chickens have only recorded four wins whilst the Devils have fared even worse to have a record of three wins and four losses. This has led to several people writing the Chickens and Devils off. The official ORFFA Round 12 review asked “has the bell tolled for ChiefBet?” and commented “Vital win for the Devils to arrest their horrid form slump.” There had been much discussion amongst the Tasmanian media on whether the Devils would record their 50th win or 50th loss in the ORFFA first and the Round 12 victory meant that the wins won this battle. Cradle Mountain’s ORFFA record is 50 wins and 47 losses including one finals loss to this weeks opponent Foul Bay by 320 points in 2014. There is no question that the Chickens and Devils have not maintained the high standards they set over the first five rounds when they averaged 1,357 points and 1,324 points respectively however I don’t think the win/loss record provides a true reflection of how the two clubs have performed over the past 7 rounds. From Round 6 to Round 12 the Chickens and Devils have averaged 1,274 points and 1,278 points respectively and both clubs rank in the top three for total points scored this season. The team ranked fourth for points scored this season is Marble Bar with 1,278 per game which underlines that the Chickens and Devils have still performed at a reasonable standard from Round 6 onwards in terms of a points production point of view. It would be very interesting to see the latest ChiefBet odds and where @ChiefRussell has his Chickens placed in the pecking order given that he has downplayed Foul Bays premiership chances over the previous couple of seasons and unfortunately for him proven to be correct with his assessment. The Venus Bay Vultures are the standout team of 2017, having enviable depth and averaging 1,365 points per game over the course of the season. However after that very little separates the other six teams currently in the top 7. After the fitness staff seriously misjudged their taper at the start of the season the stumbling Cows have transformed into the Rampaging Cows to win 11 games straight after fielding only an 11 player team in Round 1 including one OOP. Over the last nine rounds the Cows have averaged 1,334 points per game which is only approximately 60 points more than the written off Devils and Chickens have averaged from Round 6 to Round 12. The Round 13 game between Cradle Mountain and Foul Bay shapes as one of the most anticipated games ever hosted by the Devils with the winner to gain much needed confidence and remain in contention for a top four finish. Based on season averages the Devils starting 13 have a five point advantage over the Chickens, however the Foul Bay depth comes to the fore on the bench with a 29 point buffer giving them the edge overall by 24 points. Although the loser of this game can kiss their chances of a top four finish goodbye I wont be writing their season off, especially given that all four previous ORFFA Grand Finals have included at least one team that had finished outside the top four at the end of the home and away season.

Packers have actually been able to field a full team, much to the coaching staff surprise. Just need to go a a game without any injuries or player suspensions this week. Not sure what odds Chiefbet has for the Packers to beat the Battlers this week, but I'd like to get on early before our need to play 2 players OOP becomes public knowledge.

Well, thought I'd be comfortably done and in some would rather have than the alternative which occurred. Reckon that's four times this year I've scored over 1250 points and been beaten, twice by less than a dozen points or so, twice by about 50 points. That sucks. Not to take the polish off Ant's efforts - bravo to you mate But geez, averages say I'd perhaps nick a couple of those games and be in the eight which, after such a crappy season, would be very very strange. Though that said, Cradle Mountain scoring 1400+ and not getting the win puts all that in perspective. Wow. The rebuild continues.
Been confused myself previously, tail end Charlie is the Lefties, Lilac's have the win accredited, their 2nd in a row
@Chris , Whilst the Devils have lost several close games they haven’t lost any in single figures. Those extra two wins that you would expect given the margins would definitely have significantly boosted Daraweit’s finals prospects, the positive side of the equation is that the close losses improve the Guim’s draft position. Cradle Mountain scoring 1,400 points plus and losing to Foul Bay by 25 points in Round 13 is the second time that a team has scored 1,400+ and lost an ORFFA game in 2017, joining the Cockatoos who scored 1,412 points in Round 1 to record a 33 point loss to the Devils. Les W Medal leader Patrick Dangerfield continued his exceptional form to score 165 points this Round against the Devils which would normally secure the 5 votes, however the Amazing Zorko said ‘No Paddy, you are not getting the 5 LWM votes this week’ and fell narrowly short of posting a double ton, scoring 196 to earn a rare 5 votes in the CMD b & f. With their win against the Devils and an impressive score of 1,439 the Chickens head coach @ChiefRussell said 'get stuffed @Bandit the bell has not tolled’. After missing two of their best four players due to suspension in 2016 and only posting two scores of 1,250+ last season the Devils were intent on playing an attacking brand of football in 2017. CMD have certainly achieved this in 2017, posting 10 scores of 1250+, however they may need to improve their defence, conceding a league-most 15,839 points for the season to date. After Round 5 the Devils have a record of 3 wins and 5 losses with four of these losses being by less than 30 points and only one loss where they have been comprehensively outplayed, a 159 point loss to the Rampaging Cows when Cradle Mountain scored a season low 1,173 points. In all five losses CMD have conceded in excess of 1,300 points so the Devils have certainly followed through on playing an attacking brand of football and as a result have been involved in many shoot-outs but would like to improve their win-loss record in these high scoring encounters. Whilst it would have been good to win a couple more close games it is still possible for the Devils to achieve their three pre-season aims: - Surpass their previous best of 10 wins in a season - Finish in the top 6 - Average 1,300 points for the season Cradle Mountain are averaging 1,306 points so are on track for that goal, they need to win at least three of their remaining four games to surpass 10 wins for the season. Despite currently being seventh on the ladder the Devils have a reasonable chance to finish in the top 6 and will significantly improve their position if they can win their next game on the road to the fifth placed Iron Knob Codpieces.
