    Round 15 (AFL 18) 21/7 - 23/7
    Trade flops and draft tragedies

Whether you’re drafting or trading, the word Garlett shall hence-forth be deemed blasphemous.

In fact, just typing it feels sinful.

We commemorate/commiserate the decision train-wrecks that we all snigger about behind closed browsers (can we have a train-wreck emoji, Len?)

Larrikin Lagoon Lefties v Venus Bay Vultures
Charlies Opening Spelunkers v Darraweit Guim Dirrigibles
Marble Bar Misfits v Iron Knob Codpieces
Gariwerd Cockatoos v Foul Bay Chickens
Wagga Wagga Wombats v Whitsunday Warriors
Cradle Mountain Devils v Lovely Banks Lilacs
Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles v Wineglass Bay Packers
Mount Beauty Uglies v Gundagai Grasshoppers
    Birdsville Battlers v Nunawading Nuffers
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tennant Creek and Gundagai actually have a lot in common. Actually, Wagga and Gundy should be considered a local derby. I played for both Junee and Wagga against Gundy (we call it that because Simon likes to think of it as Grundy, or Grundygai). Wagga being on the mainline between Melbourne and Skidney - good place for a train wreck.

Slight freshen up for the Warriors this week. Still no Cameron.

DEF: Suckling, Tarrant, Johannisen, Harmes (Andrews)
MID: Wines, Boak, Smith, Gray (Ainsworth)
    RUC: Simpson (Lobb OPP)
FWD: Lambert, Patton, Kennedy, Motlop (Butler)
    I/C: Gibson, Douglas

Cradle Mountain Devils Round 15 team

    In: N Vlastuin, J Redden, L Spurr, S Johnson
Out: S Pendlebury (finger), J Lever (hamstring), S Gilbert (hand), C Pedersen (omitted)

    Def: M Hurley, Z Jones, N Vlastuin, L Spurr(C Pedersen)
    Mid: D Zorko, D Heppell, S Grigg, D Zaharakis
    Ruc: T Nankervis
    Fwd: J Steele, T Lynch, W Hoskin-Elliot, S Johnson (J Gresham)
    Inter: L Shiels, J Redden (J Roughead)

After their sixth loss from nine games the Devils have made four changes including three forced changes for their Round 15 game with Lovely Banks. The biggest injury news by far is Devils captain Scott Pendlebury out due to a finger injury, ending his sequence of 48 consecutive games which commenced in Round 1 2015. The last game Pendles missed was Cradle Mountain’s first (and so far only) final in 2014. With Pendlebury out David Zaharakis has moved from the bench to the midfield and midfielder Jack Redden has been recalled to fill the IC 2 position

Two defenders are also out with injury in Jake Lever – hamstring and Sam Gilbert – hand. Nick Vlastuin and Lee Spurr are the inclusions and whilst the Devils have had difficulty selecting the right player at D4 throughout the season there are no such issues this week as only four defenders are available for selection.

The official ORFFA review of the Devils loss to Iron Knob last weekend included the following comment about the Devils “their forwards frigged around like a 10 year old with a basket of fidget spinners” and after two Devils forwards scored less than 60 points it was likely that one would be omitted and this has proven to be the case with mid-season recruit Cameron Pedersen losing his spot in the team as the match committee decided it was a case of better the (Cradle Mountain) Devil you know and have recalled foundation player Stevie J.

During the 2017 pre-season Pendles signed a three-year contract extension with the Devils until the end of the 2020 season and one of his aims is to finish his career with his number of finals played with the Devils (currently zero) exceeding the number of b & f’s won (currently five). Cradle Mountain are hopeful that skipper Pendlebury will recover from his finger injury to play during the finals provided that the club qualifies, and a victory against Lovely Banks would go a long way to securing that coveted finals berth however the Lilacs are on a winning streak of two games so will be full of confidence especially against an opponent that has only had one winning streak at the start of the season and since then have a record of three wins and six losses.

Impressive list Mike. I remember Michael Evans - he was all set to do wonderful things at Melbourne. And Adam Selwood? Cousin of Troy perhaps? @Jason warned me off Rory Thompson when he was struggling to make an impression down back at Gold Coast. Enough there to start your own graveyard, or perhaps just let them sink slowly beneath the murky waters of the lagoon.

Feel very fortunate to be able to field a full team this week.
    D - M Hibberd, J McGovern, J McVeigh, D Howe (N Newman)
    M - T Mitchell, N Fyfe, D Hannebery, A Hall (D Prestia)
    R - S Jacobs
    F - R Burton, D Menzel, T Papley, T McLean (L Jetta)
    I/C - S Menegola, B Crouch

The Cows have had their share of spuds on the list. Touch wood no current spuds. The big worry is the potential for recruiting future spuds.

I suspect you're just looking for some juicier odds on a Chooks flag. ;)

As for the Battlers, debutant Harry McKay has allowed us to field 13 players again this week. I said woohoo.

bwahaha - two bad ones which stand out are trading away Ross and Hunter just as they were emerging.

That said, I've made some good trades as well. It probably squares up overall, mainly because you have to give something to get something.

As for my team, Tyson is back, Lyons isn't. May is out, so are Adams and Mackie. Coniglio is doing NEAFL. Think I might play D4 this week.

At least I have some forwards.

Belting down with rain here so was delighted to be able to see Josh Williams debut and goal with his first kick at afl level. Not on field for the cows but his 58 points nearly eclipsed his weight (73kgs).

The cows are still reeling from Sloane's 169 - we certainly have a knack in helping players find form. :)

    So, disasters;
    Drafted and delisted Stef Martin
Drafted and delisted Josh Bruce, twice
Traded Dollhouse for Sewell while in rebuild mode
Drafted and delisted Andrew Boston, twice

    ok that's enough, I need a drink...

    Disasters....

    1. Trading Rory Laird
    2. Everyone I traded in the last off season is having a career best year or their best year for some time:
    - Murphy, best since 2012
    - McEvoy, best since 2012
    - Ebert, career best
    - Houli, career best

Yeah there was a bit that came back the other way, but I just thought it was bit tragic - but also quite funny - that those four are all having their best seasons in 5 years or more after shedding the Battler tag. :)

Blakely and Witts are both going nicely and Sheed is showing some positive signs as well. As Chris said, if I looked at all of my trades since the start it probably squares up overall.

One of the Cows initial sponsors was Foxton Fries, the largest producer of frozen potato chips in the area. How prophetic could their wanting into a fledgling franchise have been! Some :spud: material (and this is by no means a comprehensive list) we have moved onto their processing unit.
    From the original draft:
    Troy Chaplin
    Josh Bootsma
    Liam Sumner
    Ben Warren
    Sam Shaw

    Subsequently:
    Chris Knights
    Tayte Pears
    Angus Graham
    Luke Russell
    Dawson Simpson
    Darcy Gardiner

Just seeing these names makes me feel even more stupid than I look. Sadly FF are no longer a sponsor, some class action about material other than natural spud in their fries I think.

The Misfit's lineup being overseen by the Packer's manager today, Tracey won a trip to the MCG as a special guest of the Giants and Virgin Airlines..
