UPDATE from THE STADIUM, BANCHANG. At the main break, Banchang have clawed back The Monarchs lead, with the aid of the prevailing winds, and lead King Island 12/900 to 9/717. This lead is entirely due to returning ruckman Callum Sinclair, who posted a season high 148, ably supported up front by Higgins with 82 and in the middle, Hanley with his best score this season, 90. The visitors managed to stay in the game through solid performances from Boak 114, Macrae 108, and Rosa chiming in off the bench with a very handy 98, and will look to power on in the 2nd half with 6 players still to come, up against 3 from the locals. It's game on.
An absolute belting at Flying Fish Cove Park with the visitors well in control 1145/12 (95.4) to 614/9 (68.2).
The Grenades are 1,040/13 80.0 and the Barracudas are on 851/11 77.4 7/9th the way through. The home side holds the advantage with Plowman & Jones to come verses Weitering, Berry, Zorko & JCripps. Can the magician pull something out of the bag for the visitors?
Game over at the Sandpit and its the hometown Sandgropers taking the win against @martyg's Bunyips. SCS: 1402/15/94 BBU: 1074/15/72 Match report to follow.
A high quality game at Flying Fish Cove Park sees @bryzza 's Vikings take the win 1445 - 1335. The Vikings were just too consistent from 1-15, so while the Smugglers had the top 4 scorers, the game was won in the bottom 5 where the Vikings out-scored the home team 394-249. Full report to come.
The Bulls have kept their faint finals chances alive with a comfortable victory over @JPK 's finals bound Prospectors 1207 - 1048.
FULLTIME REPORT from THE STADIUM. As expected the visiting Monarchs have come home under full sail with the wind at their backs and completely over run The Barcrawlers in the final term to run out convincing winners 15/1193/79.5 to 15/1103/73.5. Even with Adams 103 in fine form down back for Banchang, he was no match for the returning JJ Kennedy 95 who was able to get onto a few and slot 6.1 in a dominant display, mainly due to the superb service he received from the midfield pairing of Priddis 91 and Murphy 88. Once again, an inconsistent performance from the Barcrawlers midfield/interchange was at the forefront, and serious questions must now be asked of the List Management team as to how to improve this part of the team during the off season. BOG: 3. Sinclair 148 (BB) 2. Boak 114 (KIM) 1. Macrae 108 (KIM) BIG TAP: Sinclair 148 (BB) def Smith 66 (KIM)
I was at work today so I wasn't adding up the scores , but after seeing beams martin hurn go 130 plus thought my team were no chance. Well fought
The 2017 dream officially ends for the Crocs tonight after being demolished by a strong Pearcedale outift 1078 to 1338. Although the Crocs look to have secured all 6 BAFFU votes this round (to be confirmed) there seemed to be a fair few passengers this week. Match report to come.
How are the P-Dogs on the bottom of the table?? In another display that showed how unlucky @Batfink and his team have been this year, Serengeti have scraped home in a 36 point win against Hughenden. This one was tight all over the ground with no side aboe to grab a real advantage. Breust (106) & Yeo (98) were doing their work up forward for Hughenden despite the continued good form of first year player Witherden (86). Charlie Dixon (53) had a rare down day after becoming completely confused with how to play against the midget defence that Hughenden sent out and he was unable to recover from the shock. Mills (86), Henderson (81) & D B-J (81) were all able to take advantage of the situation and give their side a fighting chance. In the end though the difference makers were Captain Dangerfield (142) and the fact that Hughenden decided to take their midget tactics one step too far and play Bradley Sheppard (34) in the ruck up against the Big Mummy (107) who is starting to rediscover some early season form. The win should secure a top 4 spot and definitely a maiden finals berth for Serengeti while the P-Dogs will hold out a lot more hope for the year ahead than a standard run-of-the-mill bottom placed finisher. With a fit ruck division, a better run with injuries and a top 3 draft pick added to the squad there is plenty to keep Hughenden fans excited. Final Scores: Serengeti 1266 vs Hughenden 1230 BAFFU votes 3 Patrick Dangerfield 142 2 Callan Ward 119 1 Clayton Oliver 116
Cow Bay Crocs 1,076 (16th) def by Pearcedale Panthers 1,337 (13th) After a couple of scoreboard malfunctions, the technicians got the wiring sorted out this week. Unfortunately it was a week where the Crocs were thumped by 261 points, snuffing out the tiny miniscule chance of a finals berth in 2017. The Crocs were again without a recognised ruckman this week and gave Ben Keays a shot in the hitout department hoping it might make him find some form. Had he not been penalised 50% he would've almost taken out this week's Big Tap award and in the end lost to Nankervis 26 to 54. The defenders this week were unable to get their hands on the ball to generate some fantasy points. No defender managed to even be good enough over the weekend to get an average score. OMc was the best of the defensive 4 with 68 points. In the middle, Blakely (119) continued his rise and DeGoey (130) continues to impress with his fine run of form over the past few weeks. The coaching staff are pleased to see him finally starting to fulfill his potential and will now hope this becomes the norm. Up front, Gunston (146) took BOG honours and Jack Martin (106) again impressed the home crowd. In what has been a familiar scene this year, half the forwards seem to do well and get let down by the other two. This time Patton (61) and McCarthy (57) were the culprits. Lonergan (56) and McKenna (40) had little impact off the bench. Although the home side took home all BAFFU votes, there were far too many players who didn't pull their weight. The visiting Panthers dominated all over the ground. Howe (114) and Savage (107) ran rampant in the back half and were ably supported by Shaw (82) and Smith (80). Parker (102) and Hunter (116) cleared the ball with ease with Mundy (71) and Ellis (92) doing their thing. Up front, young sensation Charlie Curnow (112) showed his wares, future star Burton (77), new recruit Neal-Bullen (88) and Caddy (85) ensured the Crocs didn't cause any trouble. Caleb Daniel (78) and Lewis Jetta (79) did their bit in the dominant display. Although they didn't record a BAFFU vote, the win came from a very even performance with just 2 players scoring under 75. The loss ensures the Crocs stay in the bottom 3 whereas the Panthers remain in 13th position and keep up with the pack chasing an unlikely spot in the top 8. Next week the Crocs travel to Ararat and the Panthers trek over to the gold fields of Coolgardie. BAFFU 3 Gunston, Cow Bay (146) 2 De Goey, Cow Bay (130) 1 Blakely, Cow Bay (119) Big Tap Keays (26) lost to Nankervis (54)
Liam Jones is an absolute potato. Ever since the hype train passed his station, he has underperformed significantly. This week, it cost Gisborne the match. In a rival write-up - not up to this author's standards mind you - the match was referred to as "the close one for the round". Sure, it was close, and definitely didn't need to be, but it was also low quality. Both teams underperformed, no one played at their best. When there are only three tons in a match you know something has gone wrong. For Gisborne, there was one exceptional performance. Richard Douglas wound back the clock with a vintage 124, his highest score in recent memory. Many in the crowd wondered where this type of game was when he was actually needed. Witts hit 99 as well, taking out the Big Tap and continuing to be a revelation for Gisborne (the trade was Maric for Witts - I'm sorry @DamoH). Steele was impressive with 97, as was Fiorini with the same score. Both look to be future superstars of the competition. Everyone else was terrible and it was this terribleness which cost Gisborne the game. Fingers have been pointed at Liam Jones' 48 and a club-wide review into his performance will be completed. For Groote, it wasn't much better. They only had two scores above 87. TWO! Down games were played by everyone else, but there were no super stinkers, other than Weitering's 22. The Cuda's will be hoping that all the bad scores are gone heading into the business end of the season. The win came from two players. Cotchin smashed out a 106, at about his average, while Zorko continued his epic purple patch with 142. He continues to carry the team and in past weeks has been a one-man-band for the Cuda's. It was his performance in the dying stages that got Groote over the line and broke Gisborne hearts. BAFFU 3. Zorko 2. Douglas 1. Cotchin Big Tap Witts 99 defeated Stanley 55 Thanks to @YAD69 for the updates over the weekend as well
