Update from the Stadium, Banchang. Waiting on final scores, but it looks like Gisborne have held on for a narrow win,1193-1187, so you're safe @fresh
The news filtered through the armada via semaphore, down the Murray, arround the Bight and across the Indian Ocean - the Smugglers have knocked over the Bunyips 1280-1124 (approx). Is it enough to sneak into 8th position? A lot of frenetic flag-waving is yet to determine if the boys will be playing finals or finishing ninth on points difference for the second time in three years.
I've got a 26 point win to the Sandgropers. Great game; happy to get over the line to sew up 2nd spot!
Full time at Mill Park with the Bulls running out comfortable winners over the Parasites. SFB 1153 PAK 982 A lot needed to go right to make the 8 and from updates over the weekend its looking unlikely! Here's hoping...
Full time at the Dino Dome sees the 14 man team sent by the Prospectors show a ruthless slaughter of Hughenden Prospectors 1166 Hughenden 925 Match report to come from a 17th placed Hughenden.
Wow Southern Cross finish as Minor Premiers! Who'd have thought it after a 1-3 start; then went 12-1 to to do it.
Busy weekend @bryzza Sorry about the lack of scoreboard updates. Will make up for it with a big review... The Korumburra Blowflys have won an epic nail biter by 3 points in front of an ecstatic home crowd to climb to 7th spot and a snare a finals berth! In the process, knocking the Nuytsland Vikings off the perch they've been proudly sitting upon on top of the ORFFU ladder all season. KB 1320 defeated NV 1317
Not sure whether to like or dislike this... I guess we'll find out next week if the Blowflys are the Vikings nemesis in 2017. To be the best you've got to beat the best as they say...
Cow Bay 1,193 def by Serengeti 1,306 2 wins was the goal this year, 3 wins the stretch target so it wasn't all too surprising if the Crocs ran around at half pace over the weekend content that they had more than achieved their goals for 2017, particularly with no recognised ruckman playing, big improvers Blakely and Cameron out and a total of 15 fit players to choose from for this match. But the Crocs did their bit to kind of make this a close match and ensure the possibility of victory if the Buffalos were to take it easy. Serengeti didn't let up and ended up 113 point winners. Cow Bay got off to a slow start, Zak Jones with just 47 points down back and OMc 62. However, this week top up Dunn (96) and young gun Scharenberg (99) were the leaders down back. The coaches have kept the faith with Scharenberg, fending off opprtunistic offers for the injured footballer and he repaid the faith in the final H&A round of 2017. If he can do that without much of a preseason, then 2018 will suggest a decent year is on the cards for him. DeGoey (110) was back to his best in the middle even with Tucker (18) getting completely dominated in the ruck. Libba's had a down year but his (82) was passable. Hopper (61) returning from injury always meant he wasn't going to score well, especially not with 62% TOG. However, perennial frustrater Blake Acres (116) showed his wares and led the Cow Bay mids in front of the home crowd. He now just need consistency. It must've been a week for those who hadn't shown much because Cam McCarthy finally stood tall and helped himself to 109 points. Gunston (94) and Martin (74) did as expected and old man Cloke (106) also surprised. Unfortunately McKenna (70) and Robertson (49) didn't do a whole lot off the bench. Serengeti have class across all lines and they didn't let up this week. Langdon (90) marshalled the defensive 4, May (81) did what he had to and Haynes (59) went missing a bit but didn't drag the team down. Witherden (69) continues to impress and prove he was an astute draft selection in the preseason draft. It wasn't surprising to see Mumford (129) dominate the hitouts when matched against Tucker. An astute trade he's added a strong dimension to the ruck although this week Longer happened to also ton up. Kelly (127) ran rampant, collect disposal after disposal, Merrett (95) continued to pump the ball inside 50, Steven (80) had a slightly down day but held his own and Polec (75) was ok. Steven was recruited in the preseason and has added to the Buffalo midfield but it's fair to say he would've been expected to average more than 89 this year. Up front and another good trade paid dividends for the coach. Sam Reid (111) led the offensive 4 and was the only one to shine. The remaining forwards Daniher (70), Dixon (71) and Elliott (72) were average at best but did threaten to tear the game apart with the constant and direct delivery from the midfield brigade. Scott Selwood (111) started on the bench but did so well he didn't come off the ground and Pittard (66) didn't add too much. Win or lose, the result would've been the same - a 3rd placed finish at the end of the H&A season in 2017 for Serengeti. The result means the Buffalos will play in their first finals series and will host the sliding Prospectors who traded out 2 guns mid year in what appears to be the start of a rebuild. The loss means the Crocs finish the season in 16th place. Big Tap Mumford (129) def Tucker (18) BAFFU 3 Mumford, Serengeti (129) 2 Kelly, Serengeti (127) 1 Acres, Cow Bay (116) @wrightbrendan
and... we are done, for 2017 at least. Christmas Island Smugglers 1280 def Blanchetown Bunyips 1141 @DamoH In one of the better scoring rounds for the Bunyips, it just wasn't enough against the Smugglers. There was only one positive for the homeside with big Sauce Jacobs taking out the Big Tap point against in form Kreuzer 138 to 131. All other lines the Yips were beaten, especially in the mids. Heppell (134) has found some of his early season form at the right time of the season with Dusty Martin (119) just beating his season average. With Dan Houston failing to catch his bus from Port Adelaide up to Blanchetown we had to rely upon emergency in Silvagni (51). Dids was underwhelming for the visitors in his first match of the year (57) but Smith and Taylor both outscored their average to help up forward. The Smugglers end up on 9-8 in 8th position whilst the Bunyips end the season 8-9 in 12th. We wish @DamoH all the best of luck in their finals campaign!
