First week back after the AFL byes and the Misfits were very lucky to be playing the FA's rotating bye as we were almost universally shit. 1089 is the stuff we had hoped was well in our past. Still some players were (marginally) less useless than others, they be; Round 11 , 9 and 2 Misfits B&F votes Round 11 5 Ward (116) 4 Whitfield (111) 3 Lloyd (99) 2 Dunstan (91) 1 Ryder (91) Cumulative 27 Murphy 25 Kelly 24 Laird 14 Williams, Lloyd 13 Ward 12 Daniher 9 Ryder 8 Rich 5 WHE 4 Fantasia, Whitfield, Dunstan 3 Daniel 2 Elliott 1 Kennedy, Smith
Misfits bounced back to form in round 12 with a 1375 seeing us win comfortably over the Uglies. Thanks to the Lilac's beating the Grasshoppers it also saw us move into the top 4, 10 and 2. Ward and Whitfield led all scorers for the 2nd week in a row Misfits B&F votes Round 12 5 Ward (132) 4 Whitfield (130) 3 Ryder (127) 2 Murphy (112) 1 Kelly, Haynes (108) Cumulative 29 Murphy 26 Kelly 24 Laird 18 Ward 14 Williams, Lloyd 12 Daniher, Ryder 8 Rich, Whitfield 4 Fantasia, Dunstan 3 Daniel 2 Elliott 1 Kennedy, Smith, Haynes
Round 13 possibly flattered the team with an above average 1467, enough to see off the Cave Men and go 11 and 2. Rare air. Misfits B&F votes Round 13 5 Murphy (141) 4 Ward (136) 3 Kelly (134) 2 Ryder (129) 1 Laird (119) Cumulative 34 Murphy 29 Kelly 25 Laird 22 Ward 14 Williams, Lloyd, Ryder 12 Daniher 8 Rich, Whitfield 4 Fantasia, Dunstan 3 Daniel 2 Elliott 1 Kennedy, Smith, Haynes
Round 14 and we got a reality check managed 1290 but with only 3 centurions in the game it wasn't enough to beat the Cockatoos.. 11 and 3 sitting 4th with plenty of room for improvement. Misfits B&F votes Round 14 5 Laird (121) 4 Ryder (105) 3 Daniher (100) 2 Whitfield (99) 1 Lloyd, Ward (97) Cumulative 34 Murphy 30 Laird 29 Kelly 23 Ward 18 Ryder 15 Daniher, Lloyd 14 Williams 10 Whitfield 8 Rich 4 Fantasia, Dunstan 3 Daniel 2 Elliott 1 Kennedy, Smith, Haynes
Round 15, 1383 sees us win against an Abetless Iron Knob. 12 and 3 sitting 3rd Misfits B&F votes Round 15 5 Williams (139) 4 Ward (119) 3 Ryder (111) 2 Kelly (103) 1 Whitfield (99) Cumulative 34 Murphy 31 Kelly 30 Laird 27 Ward 21 Ryder 19 Williams 15 Daniher, Lloyd 11 Whitfield 8 Rich 4 Fantasia, Dunstan 3 Daniel 2 Elliott 1 Kennedy, Smith, Haynes
Round 16, 1374 and we managed another "first win against" vs Foul Bay this time. 13 and 3, still sitting 3rd Misfits B&F votes Round 16 5 Ryder (130) 4 Rich (124) 3 Daniher (113) 2 Kelly (106) 1 Murphy (105) Cumulative 35 Murphy 33 Kelly 30 Laird 27 Ward 26 Ryder 19 Williams 18 Daniher 15 Lloyd 12 Rich 11 Whitfield 4 Fantasia, Dunstan 3 Daniel 2 Elliott 1 Kennedy, Smith, Haynes
Round 17, 1289 was not our best effort by a long way, and proved only just enough to get the chocolates over a rapidly improving Lilac's outfit. Fantasia's early injury was poor timing, but apart from that the squad performed at or around averages, will need another 100 points next week. 3 players still had a shot at glory for 2017 at the start of this round, and for the first year Callan Ward the team captain and spiritual leader was not amongst them, despite an excellent year. Misfits B&F votes Round 17 5 Rich (133) 4 Kelly (127) 3 Murphy (125) 2 Ward (101) 1 Laird (96) Fittingly 4 of the vote getters for the final H&A round were the top 4 in the medal race, the 5th being the (very) late bloomer Dan Rich. Cumulative 38 Murphy 37 Kelly 31 Laird 29 Ward 26 Ryder 19 Williams 18 Daniher 17 Rich 15 Lloyd 11 Whitfield 4 Fantasia, Dunstan 3 Daniel 2 Elliott 1 Kennedy, Smith, Haynes Marble Bar are proud to announce Marc Murphy is the 2017 Misfits Best and Fairest winner, an award that shall from this date be called the "Cementhead Medal" in honour of our 5 time B&F winner Callan Ward.
Each to their own Len, but I wonder if you did not go early on the B&F. Performances at the pointy end of the season are pretty relevant.
Indeed mate, plans are afoot for a final series medal, but 5 years of history feels enough to keep the B&F home and away focused only. Much like the Brownlow and the Norm Smith though clearly the latter not quite the same
A great year for the Misfits, finishing 3rd in the home and away and going on to be narrowly beaten by a better team in the cows in the Grand Final. Our inaugural "Lenny Hayes Medal" winner for the best player in a finals series is Josh Kelly who averaged 127. Our Rising Star Award goes to Matt Kennedy These join Marc Murphy our Cementhead Medal winner for Best and Fairest player. Onward and upward
So the 2018 season is almost upon us, and Misfits are fired up for it after so narrowly missing out on our maiden flag last year. Pre-emptively Back: Laird, Rich, Lloyd, Haynes (Tomlinson) Mid: Kelly, Murphy, Ward, Whitfield (Aish) Ruck: Ryder Fwd: Daniher, Smith, Fantasia, Taranto (Venables) IC: Kennedy, Daniel (Longer)
Round 1 wasn't what we had hoped for, in any respect. We lost 1118 to 1295 to the Devils and incurred what look to be two long term injuries to Ryder and Rich in the process, with Williams out as well treading water this year would appear very optimistic. Still many of those that played the game played well and should be recognised. The coaching panel have requested a change to the voting system and this has been accepted, all Misfits that play in each weeks game will be rated 1 to 10 based on their performance against the expectation for them. Week 1 Best & Fairest
Word out of Alberton is no structural damage, so looking at 3 weeks, unless they want to be uber cautious. Sick list not out yet, so don't know how severe Mr. Kennedy is. The injury to Ryder should not be underestimated for Port. No recognized backup ruck means that Westhoff will shoulder a lot of the load, which means he won't be roaming free as he does so well. It also means that there is a large missed opportunity for Rockliff and Ryder to work out a combination. Sydney on Sunday will tell. Life is a spreadsheet.
Round 2 and we managed a respectful score of 1229, gaining victory over a brave but undermanned Nuffers. Votes for week 2, brought to you by our new MVP sponsors Bergerault, maker of the finest Vibraphone one can buy; Are Rucks, wtf are they??
Round 3 and the Misfits managed a huge upset win over the chooks, our first ever, 1191 to 1129 B&F Votes
