Congrats @DamoH on making the finals. Great effort! Commiserations to all involved in the ladder logjam who fell just short. Best ORFFU regular season ever! Particularly King Island @Tylo Stiffer than a bloke fresh out after a 20 year prison stint getting a lap dance from Scarlett Johansson!!
Coolgardie Prospectors 1,102 def Hughenden Prairie Dogs 925 Hughenden back at home this week could not replicate last weeks’ performance and lost by 177points to the under manned Prospectors. What was billed as one of the matches of the round turned into a fizzer with Hughenden appearing to throw in the towel after half time and the Prospectors showing why they deserve their place in the 8. Hughenden’s woes started early with Garlett (7) for a full uninjured game of football, everyone is still asking questions about his recruitment mid-season, list management will be under pressure in their post season review. To add to Hughenden’s problems Cox (8) out early with an ankle injury and Sheppard (14) in the ruck was no match to Martin (88) who provided good service to the midfield brigade of Clarke (88), Ebert(85), Miller (78) and Wines (76). You could accuse Hughenden of tanking but it was the Prospectors consistent team performance that won the game led by an outstanding best on ground performance of Sciliy (130). Despite a makeshift defence led by Astbury (92) and Baguley(85) the Prospectors were able to easily hold the Hughenden forwards. The Prospectors had their own problems early with Fantasia (7) tearing a hamstring and won’t be available for the finals, there is going to be some major re-shuffling of the team to be competitive against some of the scoring opponents in the 8. Overall it was a frustrating dour contest which confirmed the teams’ relative positions on the table. Hughenden, despite some high scores during the season, finishing in 17th place and the Prospectors confirming their rightful position of 6th place ready to play finals footy. BAFFU Awards 3 Sciliy, Coolgardie (130) 2 Oliver, Hughenden (110) 1 Ward, Hughenden (101)
Sorry for the late writeup, been very busy back home. With finals on the way, Groote Eyelandt thought Eden would be a good place to rest key players but the home side rallied together for a win to close out what has been a very strange season. A season of missed opportunities with form failing before finals and big improvements in the drafts. Zaka led the way with 129 to beat Bont for the 3 votes, Maynard secured the win with a career-high 109 from the emergency list after Otten was a late out. For the Barracudas, they didn't get to be 2 time premiers without being resilient but we have finals of our own to plan for. Early in the match at the Sandpit and its the hometown Sandgropers 159/3/53 leading @DamoH's visiting Smugglers 64/1/64. It's been a slow start from both sides with Roughead being the best contributor so far with 74 in the ruck. Plenty to play out in this one. Go Gropers!
Buffaloes off to a strong start leading the Prospectors early in the first quarter 214/2/107 v 23/1/23 @JPK
I forgot to mention that the club is competing in limited edition state coloured jumpers for their inaugural finals campaign. Go Sandgropers!
It's Finals Footy folks! The Barracudas face off against the Armadillos @insider these two teams are seasoned finals footy campaigners and know what it takes in lifting to the next gear. They know it doesn't matter what happened during the regular season as it means nothing. No doubt it will be a bloody game from the start! 1/9 through the Barracudas are 211/2 105.5 to the Armadillos on 66/1 66.0 For the home side the Bont has performed as expected and Murphy who missed out on a flag last year put in a massive effort from the back-line. The visitors Dahlhaus got a nasty green foot in the face and was forced off the paddock early. There is plenty of footy action to come, stay tuned folks!
@DamoH Just as I was starting to get some belief your Lions & GC players have run amok to score nearly 400 between the 3 of them!
Quality game so far mate - your sending of Harry T forward was a stroke of genius and then just when it looked like Fyfe and Prestia were going to dominate the midfield, Beams and Hall fight back.
TS quickly going the way of my regular season supercoach performance - underwhelming results and questionable decisions. Very close to waving the white flag already. Stanley, Guthrie, Murphy taking some serious piss. Couple that with Edwards and Dahlhaus sub-70.... fml as the kids say
Turning for home it's @DamoH's Smugglers 1010/11/92 with an 86 point lead over the hometown Sandgropers 924/11/84. Everything still to play for with Hibberd, Cunnington, Ryder & Harmes for Southern Cross up against Hartlett, I Smith, Dunstan & Tyson for Christmas Island. The visitors have the whip hand at the moment but anything can happen and neither team can afford another sub 60 score. Go Sandgropers!
We're halfway through the elimination final between Serengeti and Coolgardie and it is the Buffaloes flexing their finals muscle at this stage; Serengeti 750/8/93.8 v Coolgardie 456/7/65.1 Stef Martin is doing all he can to keep his team's season alive but the Buffaloes midfield is keeping the home side ahead @JPK
6/9 through the Barracudas are 923/10 92.3 to the Armadillos @insider on 537/7 76.7 For the home side Hanna's the ball magnet picks up plenty of touches, Lloyd and Sutcliffe rebounding well off half back, while Guthrie was on fire off the wing. Stanley back this week big tapping however sustained a calf injure late, the magnificent one has had some solid touches and up forward Crippa has booted 3 early term goals before being rotated up the paddock. The visitors Edwards started forward and then had stints in the midfield, plenty of touches for Rich and Saad rolled through the back-line. Young Parish is getting man-handled in the middle while Gibbs (ex-cuda) is hot property sinking a goal late in the term and SPS splitting his time up forward and on the wing racking up the possessions. It might look one sided at the moment however there is still plenty of footy action to come, with the visitors gearing up for the final term through the blood, sweat and dust, stay tuned folks!
